Title-Alpha Girl Series-Wolfling Saga Book #1 By: Kate Bloomfield Genre: New Adult/Mature YA ( 15 & up) Paranormal Romance **not intended for audiences younger than 15 years of age, as it contains scenes of a sexual nature, and coarse language. Please do not read if you are easily offended.**
Blurb:
Seventeen year old Rose Goldman is highly unpopular in the little town of Halfway. Ever since the ‘attack’ when she was a girl, people and animals have been afraid of her. She gets bullied in school, and called ‘wet dog’ because of the way she smells, despite being extremely hygienic. However, life takes a turn when a new teacher starts at Halfway High. Mr. Stone, the quirky and charismatic English teacher is twice Rose’s age, but she feels an unexplainable pull towards him from day one. Despite her better judgement, Rose pursues a friendship with Mr. Stone, who seems unable to stay away from her. What is pulling this unlikely pair together?
Excerpt:
As Mr. Stone drank his coffee I observed what he was wearing today. It was no different to the usual. He wore a tweed jacket with leather elbow patches. It was a little too big for him. The shirt underneath had an ugly paisley pattern on it.
I did not hide my gaze as I looked around the table to see his pants, which were a type of brown velvet. He wore the same lace-up boat shoes as usual, this time with no socks.
‘What?’ he said a little embarrassed as I scrutinized his attire.
‘You dress so strange,’ I said, leaning back against the booth and observing him.
He smiled and sipped his coffee. ‘Do I?’
‘Yeah … it’s eccentric. Like a mad professor.’
Mr. Stone chuckled, his emerald eyes twinkling, reflecting the streetlights outside. ‘Don’t you like the way I dress?’
I frowned, considering it for a moment. I liked it very much, indeed. ‘I think it suits you,’ I said.
‘Would you like to know a secret?’ he asked, leaning forwards.
‘I’m not good at keeping secrets,’ I replied.
Mr. Stone raised an eyebrow, his expression unreadable. ‘I do all my shopping at the thrift-store.’
I feigned a look of shock. ‘Really? I would never have guessed.’
He laughed. ‘All right, no need to get smart.’
Perhaps Mr. Stone is poor, I thought. After all, he was a little rough around the edges, not to mention his car was about to fall apart. It would be rude to ask though.
‘I promise not to tell a soul,’ I said, tracing an ‘X’ over my heart.
Mr. Stone rolled his eyes and drained the rest of his cup.
Review:
I really enjoyed reading this story and was amazed at how well Kate developed Rose’s story. I think we have all had that moment in life where we have felt like we were on the outside looking in and all alone.
I wasn’t sure how I was going to feel about the student/teacher dynamic. It was well-done and I appreciate the paranormal aspect of the characters. This almost lends a justified element to the relationship. The author does a wonderful job of making you feel the loneliness that Rose experiences and you can appreciate what she finds with Mr. Stone.
If you are looking for a feel good love story, here you go! 🙂
“I was riveted. Alpha Girl is quite intimate and has a fairly small cast of characters. The protagonist is very believable and wasn’t annoying, which is a frequent problem in a lot of books featuring teenage lead characters narrating in the first-person. This is a romance (albeit a twisted one). Don’t pick up this book expecting a darkly sweet, cutesy love story. This book will blast you out of your comfort zone and make you hate yourself for turning the page. But you will turn the page.”
– Review of Alpha Girl by Mark Carver, Author of The Age of Apollyon.

EXCERPT:
They kissed, reacquainting themselves in a gentle way. After a while, he leaned over, moving more on top of her. His hand dragged her shirt up and his fingertips traced over her stomach. He knew he wanted to take things slow and appreciate her entire body, but he wanted her so much that he struggled to find a balance between respectful and pleasing for them both. He slid his finger down the outside of one thigh before sliding up the inside of her other, touching her smooth skin. Her breath caught as she succumbed to her own feelings and to pleasure for the first time in years.

Shamed investigative journalist turned tabloid scribe Maggie O’Connell convinces her editor to let her go to Minnesota to research alleged werewolf sightings. Her first night in the woods, she gets trapped in an ancient sleeping bag, unintentionally attracts the attention of a bear, and is saved by the most unlikely of heroes: the very wolf she had come to investigate!
When she meets horse rancher Aidan Gael in the town market days later, she recognizes his eyes as those belonging to her champion. He dodges her every attempt to get to know him but undaunted Maggie launches a campaign to win over the recalcitrant Aidan.
Aidan tries desperately to avoid her; he both fears Maggie and fears for her. Neither man nor beast can resist her curious mind and courageous heart. One kiss threatens to break Aidan’s tenuous self-control but furthers Maggie’s resolve. However, danger lurks at every turn. The curse Aidan fights to keep secret is only one of the obstacles that will test the strength of their bond. Together they will navigate the violence of both nature and of man in pursuit of their destiny.
Review:
I fell in love with Aidan! Who doesn’t have a soft spot for a broken man that has the devil in his eyes?
Maggie is a journalist who was screwed over by her ex-boyfriend. Happens to the best of us, right? She takes a job, the only one she hasn’t been blackballed from, with a tabloid. She is working on a piece about werewolves and is staying in the woods of Minnesota. You can imagine that this hard-nosed reporter doesn’t really believe in the supernatural. Imagine her shock when she is startled by a bear that lunges toward her. Enter the wolf! Beautiful and elegant the wolf manages to force the bear away and intrigues Maggie.
Aidan keeps away from the folks in the small town. His secrets are kept buried deep and the loss of his privacy could destroy him. The nosy reporter in town doesn’t understand that some things are left undiscovered. Maggie, however, is like a dog with a bone. No pun intended. 🙂 She knows Aidan is hiding something and she won’t stop till she discovers the truth. When she sees the wolf in his eyes and the passion in his arms, Maggie learns where she has always belonged. Can she convince Aidan that he can have it all?
Becky Flade has built a beautiful love story based on strong characters and lush imagery. This story speaks of magic and traditions. I also love the plot twists that come in the backstory. Never saw how this story was going to go till it was there. Love it!! I am in awe of this author and will be on the watch for more of her incredible writing!

Author Bio:
When I was little I thought everyone had stories in their head. I didn’t find out that wasn’t the case until kindergarten. I remember thinking that was sad; and that I should share the ones I had. I asked my teacher for help. I had her cut, fold and staple the paper into a suspiciously book-like shape. Then I drew the cover art and illustrated the interior pages. Finally, and most importantly, I dictated the text. And violà … a writer was born.
It took thirty years for me to get from that first attempt to being a published author. I think the road thus far has added some depth and experience to my writing. At the very least I learned I shouldn’t ever do my own illustrations.
A city girl, born and bred, I tend to place my stories in and around southeast Pennsylvania, or at least have a character or two from the area. Home is where the heart is and I make mine with my very own knight in slightly tarnished armor, three beautiful daughters ranging in ages from college through pre-school, and a grandson who arrived on my birthday last year. When I’m not busy living my own happily ever after, I’m writing about someone else’s.

At her cousin’s wedding, she runs into Matt, a handsome Texan in the church parking lot. Matthew McLemore is more than gorgeous, he’s Carolina’s new boss, and needs her help to determine why his cattle keep dying. Matt’s instantaneous attraction to Carolina sorely tempts him to push the boundaries of their work contract, but a roll in the hay may prove too volatile to handle. But by the time the pathology lab reports comes back, they’ve explored every inch of each other. All of a sudden, this fiery affair is more than just a fling. And when a past flame threatens to overwhelm their new found romance, Matt must find a way to stake his claim to Carolina’s heart before it’s too late.
Warning: Contains a smoking mess of scorching love scenes.
Ice may be needed for blazing imaginations.
Review:
This was a fun read. I like how the interaction was between Carolina and Matt. You could see the sparks leaping from the pages! Matt did seem a little old fashioned in some spots but I figure it is the way he was brought up. I would have liked to seen more to the ending of the story. I just felt like it dropped me. These are two passionate characters and I am hoping that Susan Arden continues with these siblings.
Author Info:
Susan grew up in Miami, Florida and spent summers with her father, a college philosophy professor. Surrounded by stacks of books, she voraciously read throughout her childhood. Her father gave her the Little Prince not once, but several times over the years and the ideas of heartfelt vision stuck. “What matters is beyond the tangible. I love the concept of falling in love. The type of romantic journey that is so intense, it borders on insanity.”–Susan D. Taylor
Susan moved to Nashville where she taught biology and special education as well as coached girls’ soccer. No longer a public school teacher, Susan now writes about consuming passion, how attraction plays out, and characters that are either going to incinerate or meld like ribbons of warm caramel. She lives in TN with her husband, two blue heelers, two cats, a gecko and a snake. An RYT 200 (Yoga Alliance) specializing in vinyasa flow when she’s not writing her next hot romance.
When Ciara Littleton finally joins Facebook to socialize without the limits her hearing impairment gives her, she looks up a childhood friend on a whim. In sending him that first message, she ignites the memories of a crush from twenty years ago. Can a simple friend request fix all that stands between them and maybe even lead to something more?
Hunter’s plate is full. A recent divorce, a pregnant sister, and now, he realizes he’s in love with a woman who lives states away. Can he overcome the boundaries of Internet romance to make this desire turn into something real, or will adversity and distance be their undoing?
This book was formerly titled A Facebook Affair and has been revised with a new ending.
Review:
I loved this story! Ciara is a hearing impaired woman that has gone through rough times. She reads lips and was raised mainstream, which means she doesn’t know how to sign and went to “regular” school. She had a rough childhood with moving around a lot. That makes it difficult to make friends. The story tells about one of the worst times when she was in second and third grade and the girls were extra vicious.
Now, Ciara is all grown up and her friend Tammy is trying to convince her to get into the dating world but Ciara believes men aren’t interested due to her hearing issues. Tammy convinces her to get started on Facebook and look up some old friends. Ciara remembers Hunter, the one person who wasn’t cruel to her during that dark period of her life.
On internet connection is all it takes to discover that love can begin at any age.
I’m going to give my heart to the boy who I think deserves it.
The boy whose kisses are hotter than molten lava.
The boy who offered me the key to his heart.
The boy who asked me to Homecoming in a big, sexy way.
There are so many things to look forward to.
Parties at the Cave. Homecoming festivities. Drama Tryouts. Shopping trips to NY.
But things aren’t always as perfect as they seem.
I find out that my best friend has been keeping a secret from me.
Not that I can blame him.
I have secrets too.
But, for now, I’m going to pretend I’m just a normal girl.
I’m going to pretend he’s not still out there.
I’m going to pretend he’s not getting desperate.
I’m going to pretend I’ll never see him again.
But, I will.
Excerpt:
After dinner, he parks his car down by the field house and leads me out onto the big green commons ground, where we played football and he kissed me in the grass.
My heels are sinking into the damp grass and I’m worrying about ruining the suede when he says, “This is where I first laid eyes on you.”
“No, it’s not. We met at dinner, when you said Riley was a cheap imitation of the real thing.”
He scrunches up his nose. Kisses me. “You tease me about the worse kiss ever, but you’re lucky I even talked to you. You were so mean.”
I laugh. “You were a jerk and, besides, I apologized.”
“Still, this is where I first saw you. When you stole the soccer ball from me.”
I remember that day so vividly. Like it was a scene out of a movie. I felt free and fearless. I could’ve never done something like that at my old school.
I glance over at the goal. The spot where I first saw Aiden.
I can still feel that instant connection.
But I’ve learned that instant connections aren’t enough. Sparks aren’t enough.
My mom always says that life is about the choices you make. And I know that I’ve made the right choice. The smart decision.
Because I’m here with Dawson.
“You didn’t have a shirt on that day. I thought you were gorgeous.”
“I thought you were crazy.” He laughs and grabs a piece of my hair, twirling it lightly on his finger. “Crazy, but hot. So, Keatie, will you be my girlfriend?” His big brown eyes glitter in the moonlight.
Our relationship has been all backwards. Bad first impressions. Bad manners. Bad kisses. Sex way too soon. My supposed rebound could have gone horribly wrong in so many ways.
But it hasn’t. It’s been better than I could have scripted.
“I’d love to be your girlfriend, Dawson.”
He undoes the necklace. I turn around and lift my hair up, while he clasps the key to his heart around my neck.
Of course, once he has it clasped he attacks my neck with his mouth.

Working undercover is nothing new for DEA Agent Rory Johnston. In the years following her sister’s death, she’s been involved in investigations in more high schools and colleges than she cares to count. The case in Bourland is different, though. Not only is she supposed to find the source of the drugs on the college campus, she also has a secret assignment – find the dirty cop within the department who has been responsible for having their informants killed.
Zachary Rowlins is the officer Rory must work with in her new assignment – but for all she knows, he might be the dirty cop. When Zach is unexpectedly pulled from the case, he discovers that the corruption within the department goes much deeper than either of them suspected. Zach finds himself in a race against time to save his partner knowing one thing – if he loses Rory, he’ll lose more than just a partner. He’ll lose his future as well.
REVIEW BY SARAH:
Rory Johnston (a.k.a. Kennedy O’Donovan) is an undercover agent going into a university to find out who’s dealing the ecstasy that’s been killing students, including her twin sister. Her partners, Christian O’Donovan and Zachary Rowlins, the lead detectives on the case in the narcotics unit, aren’t too happy to have her there. Christian is pissed because she’s his half-sister, and Zach is upset… well, I won’t reveal too much.
As Rory gets deeper into the university, into the party scene, and into the theater department, she gets deeper into trouble. While the mystery is a little shaky, the romance between Rory and Zach is fiery hot.
Rory, who is only 22, is one of those wish-I-could-be-her characters, in a totally good way. She is an undercover agent (though not a full cop), a genius, and a brilliant actress, but she has enough flaws to keep her balanced – including claustrophobia and a fear of water. Zachary, while totally hot, sexy, and smart, has his flaws as well, rounding him out to make him believable. Overall, the characters in this book are great, though I wish the antagonists had a little more motivation. Or, that it was developed more.
The plot was a little slow. There was so much great character development, though, that it keeps you turning pages. A little adjustment to the mystery, throw in some minor catastrophes, and Ms. Gray’s got a real winner for sure. One thing I think Ms. Gray did really well -and it’s not an easy thing to do well either – is switching the point of view to different characters to give different points of view. I was never confused about whose eyes we were looking through.
As a romance, I give this book 5 Zs, and as a mystery, 4 Zs, for a total of 4.5 Zs. Definitely worth reading. I am definitely recommending this book to my friends when it comes out!
Lucas was a typical playboy – lots of alcohol and a different girl every night.
One woman brought his emotional walls and the beliefs he used to build them crumbling to the ground.
Now, an unexpected visitor is going to change both their worlds forever.
Burning is the short story lead-in to the upcoming Demon Legacy series by J.M. Gregoire.
Review by Sarah:
Wow! Short but enticing! I can’t wait to read the rest and find out what happens!
While there’s not a whole lot of content to this prequel (it’s short), it really gets to the point and I found myself instantly connected to the characters. Gregoire does a great job of drawing you in, especially in a short space.
I highly recommend this short story, and am looking forward to reading the whole series! 5 Zs!
Axel reached out and touched the soft flesh of the woman. He’d been given the gift of a hellion with the face of an angel. Her cheek fit perfectly in his palm as he cupped her face. Her eyes flickered in response, shifting from a playful, yellow glow to a deep, primal, amber hue. He drew his finger down her shoulder and observed the heated silk of her skin.
HOT!! I have become a lifelong fan of Jaye Shields. Claiming of a Sex Demon was a different kind of book for me and it drew me in and left me hungry for more. Confessions of a Sex Demon was able to quinch my hunger but left me with a problem. I have become a junkie and the only thing that is going to satisfy me now is…ADDICTIONS OF A SEX DEMON!!
This book was all that I expected from Jaye and more!! Sephina will always hold a special place for me simply because I connected with her. I understand the depths of her despair and the darkness she struggles to keep at bay. Axel is one of those amazing men that comes along when we are at our lowest and makes us realize that there is a person that sees the real us, and loves us because of it. The description that Jaye uses when talking about Axel’s demon race, is descriptive enough that I can see his wings exploding with vibrancy and smoke! 🙂 I also love that she brought Zahra and Lennox into Axel’s world. I have a crush on Lennox, but Axel; well, that’s one man that makes me burn!
There are always books that will hold a special place in my heart. Jaye’s books fit that category.
I am honored to have been asked to take part in Jaye’s Blog tour and even more excited to be able to introduce Jaye as my VERY FIRST AUTHOR INTERVIEW!!
BRANDY FROM ROMANCEBOOKWORM’S REVIEWS: First of all I want to say thank you for being here, Jaye. How excited are you right now for the release of your newest book, Addictions of a Sex Demon?
JAYE SHIELDS: You have no idea how excited I am. I’ve been waiting for Addictions of a Sex Demon to come out since forever. Ever since I wrote Confessions of a Sex Demon, I’ve been dying to tell Sephina’s story. I felt like I should write Claiming of a Sex Demon first though because it was a bit of a prequel and I thought Lennox’s back story might be interesting. Addictions of a Sex Demon written, edited by my fabulous editor, was ready to go quite some time ago, but we had to wait for my other releases first, lol, so the wait has been agonizing because this third book is my favorite! I adore Sephina. I think she’s tortured, she has problems, but she wants to overcome them. And well, she cracks me up. She kind of reminds me a bit of Sparrow from my book, Secrets of the Sky (from my Immortals in Alameda trilogy) because they both have a great sense of humor. Actually, I love them so much that I wrote a fanfiction of characters from my books hanging out at a demon karaoke bar together. Sparrow and Sephina were a crack-up. When they co-mingle, mischief abounds.
BRANDY: Now I have to hunt down your fanfic because I can just imagine them together! I saw on your website that you were a bass player in a grunge band. Do you still play or have you left your grunge days behind?
JAYE: The guitarist contacts me every once and ever so often, and its possible that some day we could do a reunion show, but I live so far away (in another state now) its just not possible. I still love music now though and I play my guitar a lot and write love songs (or breakup songs) about the men in my life. I suck at singing though. When I was in the Hymens I was supposed to do joint vocals on a cover of Imagine, but I chickened out with the time came lol. Playing bass in front of a bunch of people is one thing, singing is another altogether. Especially when you suck. Like I do 😉 I love poetry though and making music so I do it anyway.
BRANDY: I love to sing but can just imagine what I sound like! I have to ask, did you sign autographs as Britney Spears in Tokyo or did you correct the mistake?
JAYE:I offer proof via photo evidence of just how shameless I am. I didn’t correct him, and even if I did, he wouldn’t have understood because he didn’t speak English. In my own defense, I did sign my real name, not Britney Spears lol. I don’t even look like Britney Spears (or anyone famous) so I think it was just because I was in the middle of nowhere in Japan and I was tall and blonde. After he left on his little bike he came pedaling back to offer me his juice box. It was so cute. I love Japan.
BRANDY: That is too funny! He is a cute little guy though! I love unusual storylines and yours is definitely that. Why did you choose to write about sex demons?
JAYE: Um….I plead the fifth? Tee-hee *Enter mischievous grin here* Well, what happened was that I had written my Immortals in Alameda trilogy (sensual romance) and I couldn’t get any agents or editors to even read a page of it. My critique partner mentioned that my love scenes were pretty hot and I should try to write an erotic romance since that genre was taking off. I was walking to a coffee shop to write such a story and I wanted to think of a title that would draw people in. Confessions of a Sex Demon slammed into me about a block after I left my tiny studio apartment. By the time I reached the coffee shop I had the whole story planned out. Sex Demons that need climax to survive. Hot, semi-psychotic blacksmith, Sex fiend/closet romantic succubus. It was so fun to write and it ended up in my very first contract offers a week after I submitted it. I went from not being able to get anyone to even read a page of what I’d written, to getting to choose between dif publishers.
BRANDY: I am in love with the your demons and have to admit they are hot! Do you have any designs to expand the Sex Demon Trilogy?
JAYE: Oh yes. Pretty much anytime I write a character, even if they only have one line, I get obsessed with the idea of telling their story. I would love to write a whole spinoff of sex demon stories about the going ons of the whorehouse that Seph ends up owning. But that won’t happen any time soon because I already have a list of stories that I need to finish before that. Right now I’m 50k into my very first contemporary so I’m dying to finish that because I think people will really enjoy it.
BRANDY: A contemporary? Oh, yeah! I know that there are a lot of authors that base their characters off themselves. Do you feel that your characters represent some of your own traits?
JAYE: Definitely. Actually, when people I know read these books, no matter what character it is, they see bits of me in the characters. At first, it really freaked out some of my fam members. Every character represents a different aspect of my personality I think.
BRANDY: I can imagine what they thought when they read the Sex Demons!! Being an author is not an easy task and you do it well. How did you get started in writing?
JAYE: I’ve been writing as long as I can remember. My mom and dad often pull out books that I’d written when I was in elementary school. My mom just showed me one recently from second grade and I was already dedicating books to her. As I got older (middle school) I wrote novel-length fan fiction (prepare yourself for my geek moment) for Lord of the Rings. When I was in high school I focused mostly on poetry and song writing. My first two years of college, I started a bunch of stories, I’d get about 30k into them, and get distracted onto a different story idea, and leave the prior tale unfinished. It was my junior year when I finally said, no more story switching. You’re going to finish one, damn it! And I did J And then I wrote the next two in the trilogy. These became the stories in my Immortals in Alameda trilogy from Crimson Romance.
BRANDY: I am a book and author junkie, so I have to ask, do you have a favorite author?
JAYE: I love Kresley Cole. She’s a no-fail for me. A lot of my other favorite authors have been more touch and go for me. I used to love JR Ward, but I’m less obsessed lately. Same for me with Sherrylon Kenyon and Gena Showalter. Lately I’ve been mostly reading my talented indie-author peers. It’s refreshing to discover new authors and read words and plots that catch you by surprise.
BRANDY: I know what you mean. My no-fails are Lynsay Sands and Julia Quinn. I am discovering a lot of indie-authors and love them too! Can you tell us three interesting things about yourself that might not be common knowledge?
JAYE: 1.) I have a cat named Nyx (after one of my favorite Kresley Cole characters) 2.) I just recently fell in love. He went out of his way to bring me some cake before we’d ever gone out. Then when we did go out, he took some pictures of me (he’s a photographer) and after I saw the pictures, I realized just how he looked at me. I’d never felt so beautiful, or so understood. I realized then that we were soulmates. 3.) On a less sexy and romantic note…I love fishing and I’ve caught a fish nearly as big as me. The same day I also caught a squid and it sprayed black ink all over the boat. Ew.
BRANDY: That is disgusting but I grew up on the beach so I know how those things go! What are the BEST things about being a published author?
JAYE: Realizing your dream has come true and knowing you can do anything you put your mind to. Being able to touch or entertain people with your words and characters.
BRANDY: I think you just described the reason I got into writing! What are the worst things about being a published author?
JAYE: Being open to scrutiny. I haven’t gotten any bad reviews yet, but I know they’ll come as my audience widens.
BRANDY: That has got to be the hardest part. Knowing someone didn’t like something that is essentially part of you. Any advice that you would like to share with aspiring authors?
JAYE: Don’t give up. Keep writing. Do whatever makes you happy, and always do it for that reason. Don’t write to be published, because it could be a while. Don’t do it to make money because you probably wont. Do it because you love getting lost in characters, worlds, words.
BRANDY: Thank you so much for taking the time to do this! I am so excited to have you as my very first Author Interview and I am looking forward to more incredible stories!
JAYE:Thank you so much, Brandy. It was a super fun interview and I hope I haven’t talked WAY too much. You can tell I’m a writer because I talk far too much, lol. I’m so glad that you enjoyed the Sex Demon trilogy because I had a blast writing it!
