I shouldn’t have remembered him.

He was just a guy who walked through a restaurant. I didn’t know his name. We never made eye contact. There was no connection between us at all.

But I could feel him.

The tingle down my spine. The command in his presence. The snap of tension in the air around him. That was the first time I saw him, and I was captivated.

The second time was different.

He was in the mysterious back elevator of my apartment building. Our eyes met for a fleeting second before the doors closed, and I was staggered. My breath was robbed. My senses on high alert. My body hummed.

That was just the beginning.

He was the leader of the mafia. I was about to fall in love with him, and his name…

Author Information

I didn’t begin writing until after undergraduate college. There’d been storylines and characters in my head all my life, but it came to a boiling point one day and I HAD to get them out of me. So the computer was booted up and I FINALLY felt it click. Writing is what I needed to do. After that, I had to teach myself how to write. I can’t blame my teachers for not teaching me all those years in school. It was my fault. I was one of the students that was wishing I was anywhere but at school! So after that day, it took me lots of work until I was able to put together something that resembled a novel. I’m hoping I got it right since someone must be reading this profile! And I hope you keep enjoying my future stories.

review

I am not a huge fan of mafia books, however, I can not pass up a story from Tijan.  I fell in love with Mason from Fallen Crest High so as I stalk her, I am always keeping an eye out for the next book.  When I had the opportunity to read an ARC of Cole, I was so excited I couldn’t stand it.  Let me tell you, Tijan doesn’t disappoint.  I fell for Cole hard.  I ached for him, I cried for the pain he suffered and what he continued to go thru.  Addison broke my heart.  I saw the pain she felt and the loss she suffered.  The love that they discover and the things they overcome makes you realize that it is the person inside that matters not what they do or the things they have done.  We all have crosses to bear and demons to face.

Blurb:
One accident – a freaking car crash.
That’s all it took to send my brother’s and my life into a tailspin with no end in sight. I was going to be something. I was going to be the best. I had the Olympics in my sights. And it all went to shit in one flash. Brayden wasn’t ready to raise a younger sister when I was thrown into his lap. He had his life and everything going for him. Thankfully, he was still drafted to his dream hockey team. The same one dad played for when we were growing up.
It took time, but I started to get better, started to open up, started skating and even dating again. I even thought I found the perfect guy for me.
Isn’t it funny how guys hit on you when they know you’re not available, but when you’re single they won’t give you the freaking time of day? I guess the game is more fun that way. And for the captain of my brother’s team, that’s exactly what I was. A hat trick is three goals in hockey. Some say three is a crowd and they might be right.
I was Gavin Hayes’ unobtainable goal.

review
I fell in love with this story.  Myla was a female character that I found I was able to relate to and Gavin was adorable.  The author did an amazing job of creating a story that I was able to emerge myself into.  I would have liked more about Brayden’s story because there were some things in the end that happened and I was like, WTF?  But it was a good WTF. 🙂
There are some male book characters that you read and you are just dismissive because that is just complete fiction.  Gavin could be the man of your dreams.  He was real, compassionate and a forever guy.
Happy couple on the couch in the morning

Meet Jake Danes of Hudson River, Lone Wolf, avid gamer, extreme sports enthusiast, and surfer.  He’s spent the last two years roaming free, exploring the world and escaping the dark place his pack had become after betrayal and murder tore them apart.  Sure life has changed at home, but Jake’s having way too much fun to return.  Riding the waves in Monterrey, and living out of a van…it’s the prefect life, one he never wants to give up no matter how many calls he’s fielding from his big brother…then he catches her scent.

Mimi Chase wanted one perfect year.  One year away from pack politics and her mother’s matchmaking efforts.  Ever since her big brother settled into mating with a healer, Mimi’s mom seems to have gone into overtime in throwing her at every eligible male in the pack.  Choosing to roam seemed the best option, and California an ideal location to get away from everything pack related.  Her plans for art classes, yoga on the beach, maybe a cooking lesson or two while living a hippy dippy lifestyle are all she cares about…until another worlf butts into her every activity – doesn’t he know the rules?

Lone Wolves aren’t supposed to form relationships, so why doesn’t he catch a hint?  Worse, why isn’t she working harder to make sure he does?

Read an Excerpt from WOLF ON BOARD

Mimi grabbed a blanket and her yoga mat from the back of her Mini Cooper. She loved the tiny little vehicle. No matter how often her brother scoffed at the minute size of the car, she didn’t care. It was perfect for her. Compact, like she was, and capable of great speeds—just like her. Locking it up, she glanced east at the rising sun and smiled. It was a little after six in the morning and she’d already had a bit of a run, a lovely cup of hot tea with lemon and ginger to cleanse her system, and she would enjoy the full sunrise and rolling surf with her yoga.

Pausing, she took a deep breath of the salt flavored air. She loved the way the beach smelled. Warm sand. Cool water. Brine. Fish. Birds. Even the coconut oil favored by some of the sunbathers and honest sweat from those running on the paths—they all combined to soothe her soul. Tucking the rolled blanket and yoga mat beneath her arm, she closed the hatch on the car and pivoted to walk toward the beach.

A hint of wolf on the breeze had her pausing to scan the area. Other than a handful of vehicles in the lot, and a couple of runners jogging farther away, she didn’t see anyone. Still, she tested the scent once more. It was faint, as though diluted by the breeze and time. She tracked it all the way to a dilapidated Volkswagen van. It reminded her of the Mystery Machine from Scooby Doo without the paint job.

The scent of wolf grew stronger. The van had to belong to whomever the wolf was, but the lack of fresh markers told her while his scent lingered, he wasn’t present. Adjusting her grip on the rolled blanket and mat, she circled away from the van and continued toward the beach all the while reminding herself that other Lone Wolves may choose to wander California for the same reason she did. No one claimed the beautiful state…well at least not this far north. The closest pack to her location was Sutter Butte, but she’d never heard any word of them taking an interest in the beaches.

Then again, she didn’t talk to a lot of people about the political geography of packs. If it’s all the same, I’d prefer not to encounter any of them. They have a bad rap and I’m on a journey of serenity, and self-discovery…and totally avoiding Mother’s matchmaking. The little voice at the end sounded way too much like her brother Owen’s, and she giggled. Owen, at least, had been sympathetic to her cause when she’d told him and Mason why she wanted to take the time to study in the Golden State.

Her mother’s habit of making pro and con lists for all of the pack’s current eligible bachelors had been bad enough, but when she’d talked to Gillian about potential mates in Hudson River and began colluding with Claudia Buckley about Delta Crescent, Mimi wanted out.

It was so bad, she’d actually asked Owen to get Gillian pregnant just to distract their mother. The silence on his end of the phone had been priceless, followed by peals of laughter from Gillian. Fortunately, her desperation had communicated itself well enough and he’d endorsed her request. Mason made her promise to return at the end of one year, even if she was enjoying herself, and she would be free to return to her studies after, if that was her desire.

Mason is the bomb. She hopped over the rocks to land on the sand and began to stroll in search of a spot that would speak to her. Not only had her alpha understood her dilemma and sympathized with it, he didn’t chastise her for the need to stretch herself beyond the confines of pack and parental expectation. Mimi’s skills for tracking had earned her high marks growing up, and more than one offer from the Hunters to apprentice. It made sense—both her father and her brother were Hunters. Even her two younger brothers were well on the way toward Hunter apprenticeships. Felicity had zero interest in the Hunter parts of their DNA, she preferred her flowers and cultivation, working closely with Tiffany Huston. Still, Mimi didn’t share her sister’s interest in horticulture or her mother’s desire to educate their young or her father and brothers’ drive to protect the pack.

She was…not sure who I am, which is why I am doing this.  The year away from her mother served two purposes; she could take some classes and test her areas of interest from art to acting to writing. She could study yoga and find some serenity. Maybe even figure out who she was, because wasn’t that the whole point of a roam? Most wolves took time to roam the country; some even went around the world.

Murphy had done that and came home with a mate. Mimi grimaced. She loved Murphy, but really, could she have not brought home some gorgeous Italian and mated him with all the requisite gossip? It had Mimi’s mother nudging her to consider a year abroad in…where else? Italy. Shaking her head, she paused on a perfectly smooth area of sand and spread her blanket before unrolling her yoga mat in the center.

Closing her eyes, she took several deep breaths. Inhaling calm, and exhaling the stress. Her mother was in Willow Bend. Mimi was in California. No ridiculous blind dates or not-so-casual meetings with eligible bachelors. Thank God Dylan mated before her mother got it into her head to throw Mimi at every male who came along, she’d actually had a crush on Dylan and he definitely fell into the category of eligible before Chrystal.

Growling, she opened her eyes and glared at the water. She was hardly alone on the beach. Laughter drifted towards her from where the surfers made their way toward deeper water, or where some sat astride their boards waiting for the water to come in. She was supposed to be letting go of her anxiety and not stressing about her mother, mating, or any of a dozen other issues being so far away from the pack could rouse in her.

She’d been in California for three weeks. Three gloriously wonderful, and peaceful weeks. This morning marked a full forty-eight hours since her mother’s last phone call. As loathe, as she was to hurt her feelings, Mimi couldn’t help but be relieved that distance had finally done what she hadn’t been able to manage.

Her mother was quiet.

So hush… Telling herself repeatedly didn’t silence the nagging internal monologue. Mindful of her surroundings, she quieted her growl and concentrated on her breathing. Mountain pose let her stretch her hands toward the sky and raise her face to the breeze. It elongated her spine and let her stretch the muscles from her hamstrings to her deltoids. The wind caressed her face and tousled her hair and batted away the riot of thoughts invading her mind.

From mountain she went to tree pose and rested her right foot against the side of her left knee. Her muscles quivered at first, but gradually she relaxed into the sturdiness. Like the tree she emulated, she let the woes of her mother’s romantic aspirations blow past her. The steadiness bolstered her confidence.

Warrior pose drew away the last curtain and let her mind relax. Her wolf stretched within her, their hearing seeming to sharpen as they noticed the increase of traffic beyond, the crash of water against the shore, and the call of birds overhead. Wolf and woman catalogued the sounds as she pushed her body, identifying any potential threats or lack thereof and remaining mindful.

By the time she drifted into a graceful downward dog, she’d relaxed her breathing and banished her anxiety. Curling her toes, she concentrated on feeling the wholeness of the position, the hinging arch of her hips and the warmth of the sand beneath the mat and blanket.

From triangle pose to seated twists to bridges, she pushed her body to achieve perfect serenity while maintaining her sense of being in the present. The sun warmed her as it continued a steady rise, and she basked in the rays as they heated her skin. When she finally settled into a lotus pose, she let her mind drift, as though flotsam upon the waves before her.

The world withdrew, leaving her alone with the lapping water, humming cars, and screech of seagulls…then water dripped on her. The icy sensation of splashing drops was cold against her skin. Though there had been no call for rain in the forecast, she fought to hold onto her sense of inner peace and deepened her breathing…only to inhale a lungful of coconut and brine mingling with the green scent of dewy sea grass atop the sand dunes with slivers of mint and…

Mimi jerked her eyes open and stared into the blue eyes of the wolf squatting right in front of her. His long, straggly hair clung wetly to his face and shoulders. The wet suit left little of his physique to the imagination, and he canted his head as though trying to figure her out. This close, however, she couldn’t miss a single nuance of his expression or the drops of water sliding off of him to splash wetly against her legs.

How the hell had he approached her so stealthily that she hadn’t sensed or scented him before he dripped on her?

Worse…who was he and what did he want?

“Hey, gorgeous,” he said, as though aware of her racing her thoughts. “What brings a sexy little wolf like you to my stretch of beach?” A slow grin spread his mouth wide, and her stomach did a little flip flop. He was gorgeous and damn if he didn’t know it.

Just what she needed…a hot, sexy wolf who was most assuredly male and made her wolf stand up to take notice. Ignoring her animal’s very natural curiosity, she narrowed her eyes. “I was enjoying a quiet morning. Now go away.”

One thing about having Owen for a brother, she wasn’t helpless, even if she was tiny. Closing her eyes again, she forced her muscles to relax and prayed he’d take the direction well, even as she prepared for the worst.

review

I am new to this series so I wasn’t sure what to expect.  This story was a fun read that brought two amazing and well developed characters together.  Jake is just cruising the world trying to find himself and his zen.  Mimi is trying to get some peace and never expected to find anything or anyone like Jake.  Throw in some suspense, drama, some romantic sparks and you have the makings of a fabulous story.

I don’t feel like you need to read the other books in this series in order to enjoy this one but I will be going back and checking them out.

From paranormal historical westerns to contemporary military romance, Heather might switch genres, but one thing is true in all of her stories—her characters drive the books. When she’s not wrangling her menagerie of animals, she devotes her time to family and friends she considers family. Hannah
All my life I’ve only wanted one thing, someone to love me and someone who will let me love them in return. This seems like a simple request, but I was born to parents who wished I had died of childhood leukemia instead of my younger sister and have ignored me no matter how much I tried to please them. I’m starved for affection, addicted to the feeling that someone cares about me, and this has led to a love life filled with either boys that I’ve scared off or men all too eager to take advantage of me. I thought I would never find a man who could feed my craving for constant attention, and then I met Leo. He fills the void inside of me, haunts my dreams, and does things to me in bed that are so good they’re probably illegal. I can only pray I don’t scare him off once he figures out just how needy I really am.

Leo
There are very few people in this world I’ve ever been able to form an emotional attachment with, but the moment I saw Hannah I knew she was mine. We were bound together by fate, our paths crossing first as children, then as adults, each time marking me. She doesn’t know it but I’ve been watching her for a year now, studying her, stacking the deck so when I do make my move there’s no way she’ll ever escape me. But my world is a harsh, cruel place and the cartel I work for demands absolute loyalty and trust, a loyalty Hannah has not yet earned in the dangerous eyes of my employers. There is only one way to ensure Hannah’s absolute devotion, and I hope that she doesn’t hate me forever when she finds out that not only have I brainwashed her into loving me, but that I don’t feel an ounce of guilt about doing it.

She’s mine, only mine, and I’m keeping her forever.

Read and Excerpt from OBSESSION:

As I scanned the dance floor, I was surprised by how many couples were dancing so close you couldn’t slip a feather between them. The sexual energy was thick, and I squeezed my legs when a pulse of blood rushed between them. My nipples tingled and I shifted on the couch, tugging my skirt again to make sure I wasn’t flashing anyone.

“Hannah,” Joy said as she elbowed me in the ribs. “That guy is totally checking you out.”

“What guy?”

“That scary-looking one with the sexy hair and psycho eyes.”

“Who?”

“Heavy brow, broad forehead, square jaw, and hair that Thor would be envious over.”

I followed the direction of Joy’s pink-painted fingernail and it didn’t take me long to figure out who she was talking about.

I’d always inwardly snorted when I’d read the description of a woman being struck dumb by the sight of a man, but I wasn’t anymore—’cause I could barely breathe.

He was fascinating, and I found myself unable to look away.

Dressed in a pair of faded jeans that fit his athletic figure like a glove, his body was bigger and stronger than that of any other man around us, including the bouncers. As best I could tell in the club lighting, he had long, thick golden-brown hair that fell to his broad shoulders in messy waves, framing an unusual face that was roughly masculine, all carved cheekbones and thick jaw. Not a pretty boy by any means, or even a boy at all. No, this guy was one hundred percent confident man. His chest appeared impossibly broad and his torso tapered down to a trim waist. Everything about him seemed to reek of health and vitality.

While my gaze wandered his body, my attention was drawn to his solid right wrist, which had a black leather band wrapped around it. I found the sight of that black band incredibly sexy and wondered when the hell I’d developed a fetish for men’s wrists. My breasts grew heavy and this odd…carnal urge began to burn in my belly

The air around me thickened as our gazes met and he strode through the crowd to our table, drawing people’s attention like a magnet. He wasn’t conventionally attractive, his features too heavy, the lines going across his broad forehead too thick, and his nose broken too many times, but he was charismatic in a way I’ve never experienced. I couldn’t blame the crowd for turning to watch him as he stalked towards us. He prowled like a beast and his intense, direct stare turned me on even as his approach made me increasingly nervous.

“Bet he’s got a really thick dick,” Kayla whispered as we all silently watched him.

By the time he reached our couch, we were full-on staring at him, but it was Kayla who spoke first with a flirty little, “Hi.”

Ignoring her, he held out his hand to me and commanded in a deep voice, “Dance with me.”

It wasn’t a request, it was an order, and I felt a sense of almost relief that I didn’t have to worry about making the decision of saying yes or no. How odd. I must be drunker than I thought because I wasn’t alarmed by his domineering manner in the least. Instead, a fuzzy warmth tingled through my body as he kept all of his attention solely on me, despite Kayla’s obvious pouting at being ignored.

After a quick glance at my friends—Joy was staring at him as if he was Channing Tatum doing a full strip tease in front of us—I placed my hand in his, and then tried to jerk away as an electrical charge zapped between us.

The mysterious man gently led me out of the seating area with his hand resting lightly on my lower back, his good manners a direct contrast to his rough image.

Alcohol obliterates the filter between my mind and my mouth so I found myself blurting out, “Why do you want to dance with me?”

He drew me closer, then dipped his face down to nuzzle my ear as he said, “Because you’re the most beautiful woman I’ve ever seen. What’s your name?”

I desperately wanted to believe him, but a lifetime of being told I wasn’t good enough reared its ugly head and twisted his words inside of my mind, making me hear them as a mocking insult.

“My name’s Hannah, but you don’t have to give me a line. Why did you really ask me?”

He jerked back and looked down at me with a curious expression. “You don’t believe me?”

Anger, mixed with a disconcerting desire, had me tugging away from him. “I don’t want to dance with you anymore.”

When I tried to let go of his hand, his gaze cleared and, for the first time, I felt like he looked at me, really looked at me—then he gave me an utterly charming smile that flooded my panties with desire.

“I guarantee you do.”

Holy hell, I think a small climax fluttered through my clenching sex.

Examining him closer, I was once again reminded that he was a solid man with a presence as big as his frame, drowning me in his heat. When he placed his hand gently beneath my chin and forced me to meet his gaze, I couldn’t find the strength to resist his unspoken control. We studied each other for a moment in the flashing lights of the club, desire curling low in my belly as I drank in his harsh good looks. This was a confident, powerful, intimidating man. The exact opposite of my usual type of guy. I liked smart, quiet, and nerdy. Or at least I used to. My throbbing clit assured me that my tastes in men had changed.

Big time.

Now, mature, dangerous, and built like a professional wrestler seemed to be my preference.

In a way, he did actually remind me of a professional wrestler my cousin used to watch, Triple H. Same heavy brow and deep-set eyes, along with a good dose of menace. The man holding my face as gently as could be was the kind of men others feared, but not me. I had the strangest sense that he’d protect me, if I let him.

He raised my hand to his lips and gently brushed them over my skin, then, when his tongue flicked out to taste me, my nipples became so hard they ached. “One dance. Let me show you how good things will be between us.”

“Will be?” I rolled my eyes even as my panties were wet with desire and my pulse throbbed with growing need. “You sound awfully sure about that.”

“Baby girl, one thing I can promise you is that I’ve never been as sure about anything in my life. Enough talking, I’ve waited what seems like an eternity for this moment. I need to touch you.”

A tremble of need raced through me and the thought and the thought of rubbing my drunk and horny body against his seemed to be the best idea I’d had in ages.

Other books by Ann Mayburn:

Exquisite Trouble

Before I met Smoke I’d never been kissed, really kissed, by a man, let alone a biker sex god bent on taking my virginity and my heart. I got dragged into the deadly world of the Iron Horse MC by my crazy twin sister who is engaged to the club’s President and even crazier mom who only cares about herself. Smoke has been assigned by the club to keep me safe even though he’s everything that I should be afraid of.

He’s the kind of man who lives by his own rules and does whatever he wants whenever he wants, but he treats me like I’m something rare and precious, not a socially dysfunctional basket case who has no idea how to love, but needs him more than her next breath.

Not that my feelings matter, because if we don’t find my mother soon, the only thing I’ll have to be worried about is who is going to kill me first.

Note- This is Part One of Two for Smoke and Swan’s story. The second book, Exquisite Danger, is out now and is the conclusion of Smoke and Swan’s story within the Iron Horse MC series.

Something easier said then done when a deal is struck between the Novikov Bratva and the Irish Cleary Gang, an arrangement that includes Alex and his men being on twenty-four hour bodyguard duty with the object of his forbidden desires.

Jessica Venture came to Dublin to spend some time bonding with her birth mother’s family, a connection she desperately needs after losing her adoptive parents within a year of each other back in the States. The last thing she expected was to fall in love with a handsome, mysterious, and sometimes scary man who was well known for his sexual appetite, but rejected her attempts to seduce him.

There are outside forces that will do anything to keep them apart, and Jessica will have to make a desperate choice that will change their lives forever.

Warning: There is light bondage, domestic discipline, spanking, and a F/F scene that is a voyeuristic Doms delight.

Author’s Note: This is part One of Two for Alex and Jessica’s story. In Alexandr’s Cherished Submissive we get a look into the past and the events that shaped Alex and Jessica into the people they are today.

About Ann Mayburn:

With over forty published books, Ann is Queen of the Castle to her husband and three sons in the mountains of West Virginia. In her past lives she’s been an Import Broker, a Communications Specialist, a US Navy Civilian Contractor, a Bartender/Waitress, and an actor at the Michigan Renaissance Festival. She also spent a summer touring with the Grateful Dead-though she will deny to her children that it ever happened.

From a young Ann has had a love affair with books would read everything she could get her hands on. As Ann grew older, and her hormones kicked in, she discovered bodice ripping Fabio-esque romance novels. They were great at first, but she soon grew tired of the endless stories with a big wonderful emotional buildup to really short and crappy sex. Never a big fan of purple prose, throbbing spears of fleshy pleasure and wet honey pots make her giggle, she sought out books that gave the sex scenes in the story just as muchd etail and plot as everything else-without using cringe worthy euphemisms. This led her to the wonderful world of Erotic Romance, and she’s never looked back.

Now Ann spends her days trying to tune out cartoons playing in the background to get into her ‘sexy space’ and has accepted that her Muse has a severe case of ADD.

Ann loves to talk with her fans, as long as they realize she’s weird, and that sarcasm doesn’t translate well via text.

review

This was a good read but there were a few things that weren’t my cup of tea.  I love BDSM relationships and books but I am not a fan of Daddy/daughter roles.  Just not my thing.

Leo and Hannah are both damaged in ways that make them wrong for a lot of people and so right for each other.  Hannah has been deprived of the thing she wants most in the world, love.  When she sees it she tends to be very clingy.  Leo knows that she is the one and he will do anything in his power to make sure she is his.

This book has some dark elements to it so be aware of that but I would definitely recommend you take a chance on this couple.  You might want to take a walk on the darker side.

REVIEW AND PROMO! MY WILD IRISH DRAGON BY ASHLYN CHASE

ONE JOB OPENING

TWO SHIFTERS APPLY…

SPARKS FLY

Dragon shifter Chloe Arish is hell-bent on becoming a Boston firefighter. She uses her Irish charm and fake documents to score an interview, knowing she has to work every bit as hard as a man—harder if she wants their respect.

Born into a legendary Boston firefighting family, phoenix shifter Ryan Fierro can’t possibly let someone best him on the training course or the job. He’d never hear the end of it. When a feisty new recruit comes along who’s determined to do just that, Ryan plots to kick her out—until their sizzling chemistry turns explosive…

extras

Ryan and Chloe eyed each other as they paced the hall outside the chief’s office.

Ryan spoke first. “I never expected to see you again.”

She halted and jammed her hands on her hips. “What’s that supposed to mean?” Easy, Chloe. Her sister Shannon’s only advice when Chloe had told her about this guy was, “Ignore his shenanigans. A quarrel is like buttermilk. Once it’s out of the churn, the more you shake it, the more sour it grows.” Shannon might be right, but this guy pushed her buttons and it was hard not to react.

“I just meant when I got the call to come in and see Chief O’Brian, I thought it was to fill out paperwork and firm up a starting date for training.”

She took a deep breath and tried to relax. “I thought that as well.”

He strolled up to her and looked down, looming over her, as if he wanted to express dominance. “I hear an accent. Where are you from?”

Feckers. He’d better not think he has an advantage by being born a man in the USA. Chloe had spent the last year not only working hard with her brother to bring his brownstone back to its former elegance, but she’d also been watching and listening to the electricians and plumbers with Boston accents. When she wasn’t doing anything physical, she watched HGTV and YouTube videos, trying to adopt American expressions.

She decided to fight fire with fire. Facing the haughty man, she said, “Where are you from? You have an accent too.”

He leaned back and laughed. “Nice try, sweetheart. I was born right here in Boston. Now, you never answered my question. Where are you from?”

“I may not have been born here, but I love my adopted country. I worked hard to become a citizen.” That much was true. She’d studied her heart out and passed the citizenship exam without getting one wrong answer. Her apartment managers Sly and Morgaine had dropped by and given her pop quizzes. They enjoyed helping fellow paranormals and had even created a clubhouse in one of the vacant apartments just for them. That was one of Chloe’s main reasons for staying in Boston instead of returning to her lonely existence in rural Ireland.

He shrugged. Then, almost as an afterthought, he said, “I don’t even know your name.”

“And I don’t know yours.” So far she had refrained from pointing out that she wasn’t his sweetheart, but it might be less irksome if he used her real name. She sighed and extended her hand. “I’m Chloe Arish.”

“Ah! I knew it. You’re Irish. Your last name even says so.”

He hadn’t clasped her hand yet, but she kept it extended. “It’s pronounced Ah-rish. Spelled with an A, not an I. And you are?”

“Ryan Fierro.” He finally clasped her hand in a firm, almost punishing, handshake.

She smiled. He’d have to squeeze a lot harder to make a dragon wince.

At last Chief O’Brian’s door opened. “Come in,” he said.

They glanced at each other, hesitating.

“Both of you,” the chief added.

Ryan gestured with a sweep of his hand. “Ladies first.”

Ignore, ignore, ignore, Chloe told herself. She smiled and strode in, taking a seat on one of the hard plastic chairs in front of the chief’s desk. Apparently he didn’t want anyone to get too comfortable, leading to extended visits. That was fine with her.

Ryan followed and took the other seat, adopting a relaxed pose.

When the chief was finally seated in the only comfortable chair, he folded his hands on his desk and leaned forward.

“This was a difficult decision. On one hand, Ryan is well known to us and his test scores were excellent.”

Shite. He has the job.

“On the other hand, Chloe’s scores were equally good, and in the spirit of equality—”

Ryan groaned and rolled his eyes.

The chief stopped mid-speech and glared at him. Chloe’s hope resurfaced. Even if she got the job based on her gender, she’d take it without hesitation.

“If you’ll let me finish…”

“I apologize,” Ryan said quickly. “Please continue.”

Chief O’Brian took a deep breath and said, “I had to go to the commissioner and beg for extra funding. I pointed out that the Back Bay not only houses a wealthy population with high expectations, but our area includes the Boston Marathon’s finish line, historical landmarks, plus lots of dorms and fraternities with careless students who think nothing of drinking and lighting cigarettes or candles. Anyway, I got the funding. We’re taking you both.”

Chloe let out a whoop and grinned. Meanwhile Ryan’s eyes rounded and his mouth hung open.

I guess that was quite unexpected. “Thank you, sir,” she said. “You won’t be sorry.”

“I’d better not be,” the chief stated bluntly.

reviewI love this series.  Ashlyn Chase has managed to create a group of characters that are well-developed and that I have fallen in love with.

Chloe and Ryan are both stubborn and have every intention of getting the coveted spot of firefighter in their local Boston house.  Chloe is an Irish lass through and through and as a dragon shifter she knows that she is more than capable of doing the job and she isn’t going to let a man push her out the door.

Unbeknownst to Chloe, Ryan isn’t a typical man.  This phoenix shifter comes from a long line of firefighters and he isn’t about to let a girl push him out of the house he wants to be in.

I love the fact that we get to revisit some of the characters from the first book in the series, I Dream of Dragons.  While you don’t have to read the first book to enjoy My Wild Irish Dragon, I find that it fills in some character gaps you might miss.

Chloe and Ryan are a couple that I love and can’t wait to see more of.

Guest Post

The One Who Makes My Heart Race is a light-hearted romantic comedy based around the shenanigans of co-workers Shelly, Colin, and Alberto.  It is an observation of office life from the inside while delving into the relationships they share.
I love working in an office environment, and while the work is intensive and sometimes tedious it is the people that I come across and interact with that make it such a great experience. When creating this novel I had the pleasure of working with an awesome group of people who were charming, hilarious and charismatic.  It was one of the best roles I have had in my entire career and it was due to the comradery and friendship that made it such an amazing experience.
The protagonist is a combination of many women I have come across in life.  As much as we know we should not compare our life experiences and outcomes to someone else we inevitably do. Especially when everyone else’s life seems to be moving that little bit faster in the right direction than ours. We all have goals in life and strive our best to achieve them so it can be a little frustrating when plans go awry. It is always comforting to know that when things do hit the fan there are people that can be relied on to help turn life around.
The One Who Makes My Heart Race should make you giggle and hopefully laugh out loud!

This was a fun read that did make me laugh.  I found Shelly’s escapades to be light and funny.  I work in an office in the medical field and some days the laughter is just nonstop. I found Colin and Alberto to be my type of peeps. 🙂
There were parts to the story that I felt could have been sped up a bit and I am a firm believer in moving on when you have been kicked to the curb but I can tell you that I would recommend this story to anyone looking for a funny, light romance.  I can’t wait to see what Ms. Allsop brings next.

excerpt

Owner of the Choice Buy store in Michigan, wizard prince Gabriel Light sees his employee, wolf shifter Emma Singer, fall off a tall ladder. He’s just managed to catch her and set her on her feet when her angry pack alpha shows up.

Bzz-bzzt. A buzz like an angry hornet stung wizard prince Gabriel Light’s ears the moment the predator slunk into the store.
Cap’n Crunch me. Gabriel had magically alarmed the door for just such an event, but why now, when he’d finally gotten a semi-innocent excuse to wrap his arms around this warm bundle of soft, sweet-smelling heaven?
Emma. It felt like he’d been dying to hold her forever. Now, with her in his arms, was the first time in months he could breathe.
But that buzzing alarm told him the approaching beast was male, a wolf shifter, and, from that level of sting, Emma’s alpha. The beast was not going to appreciate seeing her in another man’s arms.
She started trembling, no doubt in response to the alpha’s rampant fight-club stench, a musk even Gabriel could smell. He tried to ease her tension with a joke.
“Hey, Emma. How many tickles does it take to make an octopus laugh?”
She skewered him with a disbelieving stare, icing his flesh. He’d blundered, she didn’t understand he was trying to comfort her, nobody gets my skewed sense of humor… Then she gulped and said, “Eight? Like, um, eight legs?”
Immediately his world brightened. “Nope. Ten tickles. Get it? Tentacles?”
She managed a tiny laugh, tinkling bells tohis ears, and her body relaxed slightly under his arms. “That was such a dad joke.”
He loved that she, of all the people he knew, actually laughed at his jokes. He smiled into her eyes like a besotted fool.
Of course, that was when the he-wolf prowled into view.
Gabriel wondered how far he could get with the wolf by protesting his intentions were honorable. Probably not far. The creature was only barely in human form.
The wolfman was medium height but had a face like a dented shovel and a body like a trash compactor, his muscles-on-muscles popping in a stringy T-shirt that barely qualified past no-shirt-no-shoes-no-service.
Worse, with the hair sprouting everywhere, nose elongating like a snout, and lengthening canines, this alpha was dangerously pissed.
Hard to reason with a pissed-off wolf. They tended to bite first then ask questions…never.
Yet instead of releasing Emma, Gabriel’s hand dropped from her clenched jaw to open protectively on her back.
“The fuck?” the wolfman snarled.
Something inside Gabriel snarled right back.

This was a fun read and a different POV then I was expecting.  In Ms. Hughes’ world shifters and wizards are forbidden to be together.

I have to tell you that this was the second book in the series and while I have not read the first, it wasn’t difficult to catch on with the characters.  I love Emma.  She is a wildcat or should I say wolf and I love a fiesty girl.  She has been doing what she can for her family even though they have been horrible to her.  A series of events leads her to the man she has been crushing on, Gabriel.

He has his own secrets that he has been hiding.  Hang on to your seats because this is a fast past PNR with twists and turns I never saw coming.

I have been a fan of Michelle Hughes and her writing for YEARS.  Seriously, years.  When it comes to hot, sexy and passionate Alpha males, you want to be reading her work.  I love the fact that she writes about virgins because it is a genre that not many delve into.
Becca is a wildcat and I love how she thinks outside of the box.  Vegas to lose your V card.  Hell yeah.  I’m down with that.  It sounds like something I would have considered at that point as well.  If you are going to do it might as well enjoy it and get it done by a master.  OMG.  Colton is a master and a half.  Yummy.
This is a fun, hot, sexy, and delicious read.  If you like your books spicy, you have to read Michelle.

At 26, Lexi Green is a U.S. Marshal, ready for her next assignment when she gets a phone call from her sister, Laurel. Her husband, Thomas, has beaten her again and this time, it’s bad. He is a police officer and a dirty one at that. This last episode is the final straw for Laurel and she finally agrees to leave him. Desperate and frightened for her sister’s life, Lexi uses her professional connections to hire mercenary, Jake Jackson, to pilot her sister to safety.

Jake Jackson has had a hard life. Raised in the south with a drunk for a mom and an even meaner drunk for a dad, Jake isn’t exactly looking for anything other than where his next paycheck will come from. When Lexi Green walks into his life, he doesn’t expect her to turn his relatively simple life upside down, but that’s exactly what happens.

In a terrifying moment, a chain of events is set into motion that neither of them could have predicted and their lives have never been more in danger. On run from the law and Thomas and his cohorts alike, Laurel is taken to a safe house and Lexi and Jake are forced into hiding; alone.

Two people couldn’t be more different, yet somehow they find common ground in their troubled pasts and the tentative beginnings of something more. But fate intervenes once more and their lives are thrown into a tailspin of chaos and espionage. When Lexi goes missing, he knows who has her and he will tear the world apart to find her. Now that he’s found love, he is not about to let her go, but can he find her before it’s too late?”

“Finding Your Zenith” is a gripping tale of adventure and espionage, and of two unlikely souls finding love in the midst of chaos. A story of familial and romantic bonds, of healing troubled and traumatic pasts, and of the quest for that zenith within oneself—that place of highest being.

interview
Why did you write this book?
“The theme of this book is about finding one’s true soulmate, but the fiber of the story was written in tribute to all the victims of domestic violence and sexual assault. For all the ones for whom it was too late to save, the ones like me who got away and the ones who are still living under that horrible oppression, this book is a testament that hope can prevail and that there is life after trauma. Even love. And also the idea that healing can come from that perfect love you find with that special person.”
What creative process(es) do you use to write your stories?
“I am a very much a spiritualist by nature so often if I find I am creatively blocked, I will go for a walk; sometimes it’s no further than my back yard to pick some wildflowers. I also use a playlist for when I am writing. My music tastes are quite eclectic so I find that picking songs based on the mood of the particular scene I am writing is really helpful for me to set the tone and shape the setting of the story.”
How did you get your start in writing?
“I think I’ve been writing since I’ve been able to pick up a pencil and put it to paper. I can remember penning stories for my favorite soap opera characters when I was twelve and going on to write my own stories with my own characters. I wrote my first novel when I was 14. I still have it.
What authors do you consider to be the most influential in your work?
“Oh my goodness. There are so many. I think my earliest memories of being entranced with a book and figuring out that I wanted to someday write my own stories was when I was reading the first V.C. Andrews series Flowers in the Attic. I think would consider that a formative book along with other tamer coming of age tales like the Anne of Green Gables series. Nowadays, my preferred genres are contemporary romance, mysteries and also fantastical settings like that of Juliet Marillier’s work in Wildwood Dancing. That is currently my favorite book.”
I understand that this story has a theme that is centered around domestic violence and sexual assault. Can you tell us a little bit about that?
This is not an easy topic, of course, and it is not one I tackled lightly in writing the book. As this book is part of my story, it was really important to me that I give back in some way for all the people that have helped me recover along the way. This is the very heart of this book and my mission for writing it.

review

I stepped out of my comfort zone with this book and I don’t regret it.  I try to stay away from books involving domestic violence or sexual assaults.  They are triggers for me and I have been known to walk away from books that utilize them. This one, however; is on my list of highly recommended books.

Lexi wants to change the world one person at a time.  She wants to put the people who commit the atrocities she saw in the ER behind bars.  It’s an admirable quality.  I worked in a Trauma ER and the brutality that is seen is something you never forget.  Jake is the type of character that draws you in slowly and you find yourself rooting for their relationship. Their characters were well developed and it felt like you were watching their hesitation and you could see the way things started to grow and change between them.

I loved how Lexi did what needed to be done in order to take care of Laurel.  She didn’t hesitate even when danger was all around her.  What wouldn’t you do to protect your family?

Go check out this delightful writer and let me know what you think of the intimate and passionate way she writes.
