AboutTheAuthor

USA Today bestselling romance author Angel Payne has been reading and writing her entire life, though her love for romances began in junior high, when writing with friends on “swap stories” they’d trade between classes. Needless to say, those stories involved lots of angst, groping, drama, and gooey kissing.

She began getting a paycheck for her writing in her twenties, writing record reviews for a Beverly Hills-based dance music magazine. Some years, various entertainment industry gigs, and a number of years in the hospitality industry later, Angel returned to the thing she loves the most: creating character-based romantic fiction. Along the way, she also graduated with two degrees from Chapman University in Southern California, taking departmental honors for English, before writing five historical romances for Kensington and Bantam/Doubleday/Dell.

Angel found a true home in writing contemporary-based romances that feature high heat and high concepts, focusing on memorable alpha men and the women who tame them. She has numerous book series to her credit, including the Kinky Truth series, the Secrets of Stone series (with Victoria Blue), the W.I.L.D. Boys of Special Forces series, and the acclaimed Cimarron series. Temptation Court, a new series being launched through the Dark Nights Discovery project, debuts in 2016.

Angel still lives in Southern California, where she is married to her soul mate and lives on a street that looks like Brigadoon, with their awesome daughter and Lady Claire, the dog with impeccable manners. When not writing, she enjoys reading, pop culture, alt rock, cute shoes, enjoying the outdoors, and being a gym rat.

ALPHA PREZ AND THE FIRST LADY’S SECRET WEAPON

by Kendall Grey

With guns like these, who needs the Second Amendment?

Terrorism. Corruption. Lawlessness.

Criminals are literally getting away with murder while career congressmen sit in their ivory towers, wringing their hands, calling each other names, and pointing fingers.

The American people are fed up with the same old empty promises from politicians. It’s time to elect a president who will kick some ass.

Enter Jake Hammer, the sexy-as-hell senator and presidential hopeful from Massachusetts. His stance on combating terrorism is as hard as his abs. His commitment to pound purveyors of corruption into submission makes his constituents swoon. His vow to nail criminals leaves female citizens breathless.

With a landslide sweep of the Electoral College, Jake and his mysterious new bride Setta are heading to the White House, but neither the president nor the first lady are what they seem. When a dangerous enemy from his past returns, their marriage may not be the only thing under fire. The country he worked so hard to save could go up in smoke.

Now, more than ever, the United States needs a hero.

Alpha Prez to the rescue.

* This action/adventure story contains adult language, a sizzling side of hot sex, and lots of law breaking. It is not appropriate for readers under the age of 18.

** No politicians, political parties, or feelings (I hope!) were harmed during the making of this novel. This story was written in good fun and is not intended to push any political agenda.

Blurb:

Trapped by a mutual enemy, they have no choice but to work together.

All Sophie wants to do is escape the prison that has held her for so long. Years of abuse have taken their toll on her. After a failed escape attempt, she is imprisoned with a bear shifter. Can the two of them work together to achieve their freedom?

Captured by an enemy that wants to kill him, Callum is determined to free himself and the cute tiger shifter who shares his cell. It’s kill or be killed and he’s not ready to die. He definitely can’t stand the thought of anything happening to Sophie. She’s a gentle soul who despite her circumstances still has a good heart. As he fights to free them both, he begins to fall for the tempting tiger. Can he get them to safety and win her heart, or will his enemy destroy everything that he’s working for?

Read A Few Excerpts…

Callum forced himself to his feet. His knees wobbled, but he ignored it, wanting to see what was going to happen. Sophie stood next to him. He put his arm out, keeping himself protectively in front of her.
At least ten men marched toward them holding tasers and clanking chains. Callum balled his fists at his sides. This couldn’t be good.
The hunters stopped in front of the door.
“Get back,” one of them said, holding his weapon at the ready.
Callum took a step back and Sophie followed his lead. A man stepped forward and unlocked the cell door. He tossed a chain at Sophie then to Callum. They weren’t just chains, but handcuffs and ankle shackles. “Put them on.”
Sophie stared at Callum with wide eyes, and he gave her a nod, now wasn’t the time to fight. There were too many of them. It would serve them better to cooperate for the moment so they could stay conscious long enough to come up with a plan that would work.
He let out breath when she bent over to pick up the chains, securing the cuffs to her feet first then to her wrists. Callum did the same. He left the shackles loose enough on his joints that if he got the ability to shift back he could, hopefully breaking the bindings in the process.
The hunter nodded at them and moved with his back against the bars until he stood behind them.
Another man stepped inside, holding two needles. “Don’t move a muscle.” He popped the top of the syringe with his teeth and jammed the pointy end into Callum’s bicep, effectively squashing any hopes he had of shifting anytime soon. Then he did the same to Sophie. She winced but didn’t say anything as he plunged the needle into her arm.
The man behind them nudged him. “Now go. Slowly. Sophie first. Don’t try anything funny either.”
Callum watched as Sophie took a few steps forward, waddling as best she could in her constraints. He followed after her. She stopped next to the hospital bed and went to lean forward.
“Keep moving,” a hunter said as he shoved her forward.
“But—”
“Now!” The man shoved her hard enough to make her stumble.
“I just want to say goodbye,” Sophie said.
The hunter’s hand whipped up, connecting with her face. She cried out and fell backward, colliding with the metal bars as she struggled to find her footing.
Callum roared as he moved forward. Several tasers pressed against his skin, sending charges racing through him. He grunted as he collapsed to his knees. Hands grasped him, hauling him back to his feet.
“Keep him conscious,” one man said. “I don’t feel like dragging his heavy ass across the complex.”
“Walk,” another man said, shoving him forward.
His muscles contracted painfully as he moved forward. If he weren’t as large as he was, the jolt would have incapacitated him completely.
They were led out into the sterile white hallway and Callum had to blink against the offensive brightness of the lights. The hunters led them through the complex, down winding hallways until they reached a garage. A large truck with a semi type trailer sat in the middle with its metal doors open.
“Get in,” a hunter said, shoving Sophie from behind.
“You too,” the man from behind him said.
He walked up the ramp and took a seat on a metal bench that had been screwed into the floor. Sophie sat down and stared at him from the opposite side.
A door clanged shut and they both turned. Another man, most likely a shifter, was being led to their truck too. Callum had never met the man before, but there was something familiar about him.
He nodded at the newcomer, silently asking Sophie who he was. She shrugged in response and motioned with her hands.
The man stumbled up the ramp and eased himself down on the bench next to Callum. He grunted and leaned back, sticking one leg out in front of him. Blood seeped through the white linen on his thigh.
Callum turned his attention back to the hunters, watching as they rolled the ramp up and someone tugged each door shut. The truck rocked back and forth and he heard a clicking sound, which he assumed was some sort of a lock. Then someone tapped on the outside of the truck and an engine roared to life.

Excerpt Two…

Sophie ran a hand through her hair and let out a breath. She fiddled with the remote as she went to the bed, turning the TV on. Flipping through the channels, she paused at a news broadcast. On the screen was an image of her, Callum, and Terrence in their animal forms. The newswoman went on to say how there had been no other sightings since that day, but residents in the area were still urged to use caution.
“Looks like we caused quite the ruckus,” Callum said from behind her.
Sophie jumped, not realizing he was so close. He made his way to the bed and got situated in the spot next to her.
“I guess so,” she said, relaxing back into the pillows. “Is that a bad thing?”
He was shirtless, his hair still wet from the shower. She bit her lip, allowing her gaze to sweep over him.
“They won’t find us.” Callum shook his head. “I’m sure they will have some questions – they’ll just never get answered.”
She forced her gaze back to the TV, watching for a few moments as the reporter expanded on the story.
“It’s nothing to worry about,” Callum said. “The world doesn’t know about us. Shifting has its benefits. Speaking of shifting, you should probably do it again soon. The more practice the better, and the less painful it will be. Plus your body craves the transformation.”
“There was something freeing about running as a tiger. Obviously I can’t transition here,” she said, motioning to the room.
“No, I suppose not. But you could practice partial shifts.”
“Partial shifts,” she repeated slowly. “What’s that? I mean, I know what it is, I’ve seen shifters do just their hands or their eyes, but do you think I’m ready for that? I’ve only shifted once in my entire life.”
Callum shrugged. “Everyone has to start somewhere. It’s a good way to appease your animal half on nights like tonight where we can’t get out.”
“How do I do it?” she asked, curious.
“It’s not hard really. Why don’t we start with something easy like your eyes?”
“Okay,” she said.
“Close them.”
She did as he said.
“Good. Now think about your tiger’s eyes. How sharp and crisp everything is when you look through them.”
Sophie did as he asked, remembering the way her vision had enhanced the other day when she’d been a tiger. Her face went numb and she inhaled a deep breath, recognizing the odd tingles zipping through her face as a sign of her change.
“Did I do it?” she asked opening her eyes.
The room looked different, not because it was but because she had indeed done it. Her vision and hearing had always been impeccable in her human form, but now as a cat it was even better. Leaning forward, she smiled. She could even hear the rhythmic thrum of Callum’s heart beating.
She lifted her fingers to her face. Fur had spread across her cheekbones and her nose was flatter than it should be. Her ears were fuzzy and pointed too, but her vision was what she cared about. She’d done it. Maybe not as well as some of the others who could do just their eyes, but she’d take the small win that she had.
“You did good,” Callum said as she met his gaze. A wide grin was on his face and he was closer than she thought he was. She swallowed as her eyes dipped down to his full lips, then looked away.
She shook her head and let out a breath as her face tingled again, returning to normal.
“That was pretty cool,” she said with a giggle.
“I thought you might like it.”
“How often can I do that? How long until I can do just my eyes?” she asked.
“You can do it as often as you like. The more you do it, the better control you’ll have,” he said.
“So you can do just your eyes?” Sophie asked.
Callum closed his eyes, opening them a few seconds later. The stormy grey was gone, replaced by an onyx color. Before she could stop herself, she reached out and touched his face by his temples. He stayed where he was, letting her move her fingers down his cheek before she let her hand drop back to her lap.
He shut his eyes again and reopened them, allowing them to return to their natural color. “The key is to transition the animal parts of you that will be most effective depending on what the situation calls for. My eyesight isn’t very different as a bear, so I probably wouldn’t change it regardless of the situation. But say we were in a fight, I’d focus on my hands.” He flexed his fist and Sophie watched as hair sprouted out and his hand grew, doubling in size as it became a giant paw. “A good hit with my paw will knock anyone out.”
Sophie reached out and trailed her fingers over his furry paw. It was soft to the touch, but she had no doubt that it could do a lot of damage if Callum wanted it to.
He curled his paw inward, gently clasping her palm as if they were holding hands. She licked her lips, surprised by the tenderness of it.
His bones snapped and realigned. The bear paw was gone, replaced by a human hand. Callum’s thumb rubbed tiny circles onto the back of her hand, causing her to swallow. It felt nice – better than nice. Heat raced through her, awakening parts of her body she’d never thought any man would ever touch.
Callum shook his head and released her hand, turning back to the TV.
She let out a breath, wondering what in the world had just happened as she stared at the screen. The news was still on and they’d moved onto another story that she had no interest in.

Bestselling author Emma Nichols presents a new adult contemporary romance fans and critics are comparing to works of Jennifer Weiner. Snark and heart make The Souvenir a novel that will leave readers desperate for more.

Wren Jacobs—a twenty-something corporate trainer— would like to announce the birth of her baby, Taylor, named after the artist singing “Bad Blood” during the conception. Mother and child are adjusting nicely and ready to welcome visitors, especially the father, Brady Conner.

Despite a few too many misunderstandings, Wren never stopped loving Brady…and would love the opportunity to thank him for her souvenir from their relationship who weighed in at a whopping 8lbs 5oz, effectively ruining her after an unintentional natural delivery. Taylor’s birth will forever remind Wren of the first day of summer, the last time she was ever able to wear a bikini, and that she’ll probably never go to a bar again.

Follow Wren and Brady as they navigate through the tricky dating scene in this touching romantic comedy, and fall in love with the souvenir of their relationship.

Rthe-souvenir-teaser-broke-my-heartead A Few Excerpts…

The radio blared a Kid Rock song we used to sing together. All signs pointed to success. A smile even played on the corner of my lips as I stepped out of the truck carrying her breakfast. When I neared the breezeway, I could hear her voice coming from outside. Curious, I peeked around the corner, determined to find her. I hesitated when I realized there was a male voice joined with hers.
“So, you’re going to the doctor, right?” Her voice sounded light, happy.
I flattened myself against the side of the building, out of sight, but not out of earshot. I hoped if I listened long enough, I’d recognize the guy, or at least know if she was a lost cause.
“What the hell do I need a doctor for?” The guy laughed.
I heard the scrape of a chair on concrete and imagined the worst.
“It’s not natural to pee that much. And it could be lethal to flush that early.”
They both laughed at her words. Great. They already had a shared joke.
“No, but seriously, Trey.” Apparently she waited for the new guy to stop laughing.
“Okay. Serious.”
She giggled, a sound, which normally brought me such joy, but instead brought on new chest pains. I dropped the Panera bag in the grass so I could rub my sternum.
“Is that your serious face? Really?” Wren laughed again. “No more with the flushing or we’re through.”
“Okay!” Trey chuckled. “I wouldn’t want to give up all this. I love scalding hot tea. My taste buds may never recover.” He cleared his throat. “Luckily, I had the toaster strudel to ice it down with.”
Wren snickered. “Stop it. It wasn’t that bad. Oh, and if you want a better breakfast, you should’ve brought it.”
“Touché. In my defense, I couldn’t be sure you were worth the chocolate croissants.”
A chair creaked. “How about now?”

Excerpt Two…the-souvenir-teaser-dont-blow-it

“Wait. You’re still leaving?” His frown deepened.

My brow furrowed. “You had Paige here last night.” I gestured to my side of the bed. “She slept on my pillow, drank from my glass, and left it dirty. Fuck yeah, I’m leaving.” I sighed angrily. “I found an apartment.” My shoulders heaved as I wrapped myself in dreams of a better future. “I signed the lease and paid the deposit, but it won’t be ready until next Saturday.”

Brady sat up and brightened some. “Okay. Did you want to stay here until then?”

I stared at him, frowning slightly. “What? You think if I stay here for a week, you can get me to forgive you?” I rolled my eyes. “Please. I can’t think of anything that would make me forgive you, or inspire me to give you another chance to break my heart.” I tilted my head for a moment and tapped my chin. “Nope. Nothing.”

the-souvenir-teaser-one-more-timeExcerpt Three…

Leaning over, Brady stared at the carpet with his hands clasped in front of him. “I thought you had some deal you wanted to make, something you wanted to discuss.”

Seeing him weak made me feel strong. Setting the box on the floor, I knelt in front of him, forcing him to look at me. “I’m not for you, Brady. She’s the one you were supposed to be with, remember? I’m getting out of your way…not that I seem to be stopping you.” I jerked my head toward the bed to emphasize my point. “Let me keep my stuff here until I can move into the apartment next weekend. Help me move it in, since you refuse to let anyone else do it. I’ll play nice.”

His piercing blue eyes studied my face. I could actually see him considering my offer. He licked his lips before speaking. “What’s in it for me?”

I shrugged. “I told you. I’ll play nice.”

Brady forced a smile that never reached his eyes. “Not much of an incentive.”

Exhaling deeply, I sat back on the floor and stared up at him. “What do you want, Brady?” I didn’t feel like playing games. At the moment, I didn’t really feel like packing either, but at least doing so would’ve moved me closer to my goal.

“I want you. One more time. You owe me that much.” He transformed before my eyes. Minutes before he’d appeared broken, completely wounded. Now, Brady had become calculating and determined, a dangerous combination.

“You want me one more time. What? Sex?” With a laugh, I shook my head. “I owe you?” I stood and crossed my arms over my chest. “How’s that?”

“You broke our agreement. You promised you’d give our living arrangement six months before you ever considered leaving. It has only been five.”

The truth has many layers…

Professional rugby player, Lane Gerrard is used to women throwing themselves at him, but a scurrilous tabloid article naming him as father of a child sends his temper soaring. The woman he confronts doesn’t fit the blackmailer profile. Kate Alexander is attractive with an enchanting innocence, enticing. A total stranger. Her feistiness draws his unwilling admiration, but the child…he is the image of Lane.
Kate can’t deny her son’s similarity to the sexy man at her door but no way will she hand him over without a fight. Kate doesn’t possess money but she can shower her son with love. With public speculation rife, Kate reluctantly works with Lane to discover the truth. They grow closer as distrust slowly turns to mutual fascination, but the tabloid articles bring out a stalker. Mild pranks escalate into danger, and suddenly Lane realizes Kate is a woman he could love. With Kate and her son, he could have a family. Now, with his heart on the line, this is one game he’s playing to win…

Read A Few Excerpt…

“We need to talk. Would you like to stay for dinner?” Kate’s voice held sympathy. “It’s nothing fancy. Corned beef and vegetables.”
Camp out with the enemy. Lane considered her offer then shrugged. It was magnanimous considering the way he’d treated her earlier. If the situation were reversed, he didn’t think he would have shown the same generosity. He surveyed her for an instant longer before nodding. Why not? Heck—he couldn’t even state she positively was the enemy. It wouldn’t hurt to get to know her and the child. The answers lay here, not in the tabloid stories. “Thank you. I’d like that.” His attention wandered to the boy—Jamie.
His son?
Or one of his brothers?
Either way, Lane saw trouble ahead. If Jamie was John’s child, Sabrina would be hurt and upset, but their marriage appeared strong and would survive. On the other hand, if Jamie were Will’s, then this child’s presence would destroy his brother’s marriage. Will and Tanya were still patching things up after a trial separation. On top of that, no matter how things turned out, his mother would worry and that wasn’t good.
The child was a ticking bomb.
It didn’t take Lane long to weigh the consequences. He couldn’t let his brothers take the heat. Not yet. He clenched his jaw, his resolve strengthening. He would have to assume parentage until he learned the truth. All he needed to do was keep the press at bay.
Jamie looked up and Lane’s heart jolted. Recognition seared through him as he met the boy’s gaze. Deep down in his gut, he sensed it.
This boy was his son.

Excerpt Two…

“Do you want me to answer the door?”
Kate hesitated before heaving a resigned sigh. “No, I’ll go.”
When she reached the front door, she halted, took a deep breath and pasted a smile on her face. She opened the door. Her smile faded when she came face-to-face with two police officers. Alarm flared within her. The police did a wonderful job but personally, Kate could do without them arriving at her front door. They brought bad news. She gulped and took another deep, fortifying breath.
“Is something wrong?” she asked. “Jamie, my son?”
They both flipped identification at Kate. “Are you the owner of this property?”
Kate scanned the IDs without really seeing them and slowly lifted her gaze back to their faces. What else could go wrong today? “Yes. How can I help you?”
One of the police officers took a small notebook from his pocket. “What is your name please?”
“Katherine Alexander. Is something wrong?”
The two officers exchanged a guarded look. “Do you own any garden gnomes, Mrs. Alexander?”
“It’s Miss.”
“Miss Alexander, do you own garden gnomes?” he asked his question patiently.
“Gnomes?” Kate stared, waiting for the punch line.
“Yes, gnomes,” one officer repeated, his lips twitching in what looked like the beginnings of a grin.
“No.” Kate shook her head. Personally, she thought they were ugly.
An elderly woman marched around the corner of Kate’s house. Tall and lean, the woman’s dress hung on her body like clothes on a hanger. Straight up and down. A coat hanger with a temper, Kate amended when she took in the woman’s pinched lips.
“No doubt about it!” The woman’s voice sounded as sharp as her angles. “They’re mine! The person on the telephone told me they were my gnomes, that she’d stolen them.” She folded her arms across her scrawny chest and gave a defiant nod. “I want them back. Gnome-napper!”

Excerpt Three…

A few steps into the room, Kate hesitated then shrugged and stepped boldly forward. Lane’s bedroom appeared tidy but had a lived-in feel and more individuality than any of the other rooms. The lingering fragrance of his cologne and a touch of lemon furniture polish scented the air. Kate’s breath quickened with sudden sensual awareness.
A king-size bed dominated the room but she looked away hurriedly when unwanted images, steamy images of entwined bodies flashed through her fertile imagination. Her pulse spiked and her skin felt hot all over. Horrified, she shook the vision away, impatient with her graphic thoughts of sex and lovemaking. Kate fixed her attention on the display of photos covering a nearby portion of the bedroom wall. Gradually, her pulse slowed as she perused the faces in the portraits.
Safer.
Much safer.
The only trouble was that the faces in the photographs bore wide grins as though they’d witnessed her discomfort. When color filled her cheeks, Kate searched for something else to take her mind off Lane.
She spied an en suite and pushed the connecting door open. The large spa bath—big enough for two—caused an action replay. Masculine and feminine limbs entwined. Hot passion and slow, drugging kisses while the couple made love. Kate’s right hand shot to the cold water tap. A burst of frigid water would force her confused emotions to order.
The scuff of a foot on carpet jerked her head up. There it was again. Kate jumped about to stare in the direction of the noise, her heart pushing and clawing its way up her throat. The door squeaked as a hand pushed it open.
Someone was entering the bedroom.
Gasping, Kate searched frantically for a place to hide. Behind the door—it was the only possible place. She leapt into hiding, her heart hammering loudly enough to play in a rock and roll band.
But not quite fast enough.

Meet The Author…

Shelley lives in Auckland, the City of Sails, with her husband and a cheeky Jack Russell/mystery breed puppy.
Typical New Zealanders, Shelley and her husband left home for their big OE soon after they married (translation of New Zealand speak – big overseas experience). A year long adventure lengthened to six years of roaming the world. Enduring memories include being almost sat on by a mountain gorilla in Rwanda, lazing on white sandy beaches in India, whale watching in Alaska, searching for leprechauns in Ireland, and dealing with ghosts in an English pub.
While travel is still a big attraction, these days Shelley is most likely found in front of her computer following another love – that of writing stories of romance and adventure. Other interests include watching rugby (strictly for research purposes), cycling, baking bread and curling up with a good book.

Mika Lane has been writing since, well, before she could write. When she was six she dictated her first poem to her father and still has the poster board he wrote it on. In third grade she wrote her first book, The Day I Ate the Milkyway, which still sits on her bookshelves today in its faded construction paper cover. In fourth grade she won the essay contest sponsored by the local newspaper so many times they barred her from entering again. In college, the only time she got A’s was when she could write a paper.

In all its forms, writing has been a passion of hers since a young age, but erotic romance is what gives purpose to her days and nights. Mika lives in the magical and funky San Francisco Bay Area. A devotee of the intelligent, and beautiful, and lover of shiny things, she’s a yogi, hiker, traveler, thinker, observer, urbanite, and she has been known to drink cheap champagne.

Blurb:

Eleven. A name. A title. A sentence passed. If you aren’t a Beauty, you’re less than a person. You’re a commodity known as a Potential… and you only have so many chances to qualify as a human being.

In her seventeen years, Eleven has seen the best and worst in humanity. She’s been passed around and abused by the bad. She’s hoped and dreamed for the good. And she’s despaired for the hand she’s been dealt. Now she’s been purchased by a wealthy man who has the ability to improve her life and help her become a Beauty – if she can put up with his erratic and controlling personality for long enough, that is. Complicating things is the appearance of a stunningly beautiful young man with amethyst eyes who treats Eleven to the rarest form of attention for a Potential: kindness.

Does Eleven trust her powerful owner to help her escape this life of servitude and enslavement, or does she gamble everything on the enigmatic young man who seems to offer her more than she could ever imagine possible?

Read A Few Excerpt…

I hate how beauty permits enslaving the beasts.

With money and a sponsor, even the ugliest person can have flawlessness and receive anything they’d want out of life. With good looks, they can live a full life. The old days when anyone could be ugly and still live happily and normally are long gone. Flawlessness and beauty is the only way to survive. Flawlessness comes naturally with good genes or money. By any means possible, Potentials have to find a way to obtain beauty.

This new life offers five chances to earn the title of Beauty. Five measly chances to prove your worth to people who hold the right to exist peacefully in this cruel world in their porcelain-like hands.

Excerpt Two…

Play by the rules when dealing with Beauties. That is the only way to survive.

My true name isn’t Eleven, but, I’ll let my new family decide what they’ll call me.

Here I am – seventeen years old and an Eleven. So close and yet so far from being beautiful.

I tug on the chain hanging from my neck in irritation and bite my lower lip for a second before looking up towards the tiny hole in my cell door, my only source of light.

I may be a Potential, but my true name is Grace. And I will achieve beauty by any means possible.

Excerpt Three…

“I want to see you. Won’t you please lift your head?”

His kind voice and false modesty are making me sick. He only wants to look at me to satisfy himself. He only wants to see what I look like because he’s flawless. He’s sicker than the other ones. Maybe not as sick as Shawn – I have the scabs on my lips to prove that – but being less sadistic than a controlling megalomaniac isn’t that impressive.

But before I can tell my body to resist, I jerk up my head and focus my sharp hazel eyes on his.

Recognition. A long-forgotten memory surges into my mind, but it is driven away by a sharp pain at my neck. As the memory retreats, waves of pain replace it until the world is made of agony and darkness.

Then only darkness.
