Excerpt #1
Silent tears streamed down my face and onto my lap. I wiped them with the back of my hand. The finality of Paul’s words crushed my heart. I couldn’t say goodbye to Harison, but I knew I had to. I had to protect him.
I peeked a glance at him, and his stare took my breath away.
“Brooklyn.” He said my name in that way that made my insides ache. I held my head up and stared into his eyes. “I know what you’re doing, and I adore you even more for trying to protect me, but it’s not necessary. He doesn’t have power over us. He can’t hurt me, and he can only hurt you if you continue to allow him to.”
I licked my lips and let Harrison’s words wash over me. They entered my soul.
Paul spoke and gestured next to me.
I couldn’t hear him. All I heard was the sound of my Dom’s voice.
“While I would love to throw you over my shoulder and carry you out of here, I’m not going to do that. I can’t save you, but you can save me by saving yourself.”
Harrison’s words sounded like the lyrics to a song written for me.
I gulped the huge ball sitting at the top of my throat. My mind spoke, reached out to him.
Please drag me out of here. I can’t do it. I can’t be wholly responsible for what Paul might do to you.
“Brooke,” Paul yelled.
I looked around.
We had an audience. The manager walked up and whispered something to Harrison.
I blinked.
He stood up.
Take me with you.
“Brooklyn, you can do this. Go to the apartment, get everything you need, and then come home. I need to you to take this first step because once you do, I will never leave your side again.” Harrison wasn’t asked.
“Harrison,” I whispered and looked at Paul.
“Baby,” Harrison said with a firm tone.
My head snapped back to him.
“He can’t break me. My parents, my friends, they all know me. Nothing he can say will change that. It’s what I built for me. What I built for us. The only one who has the power to break me is you.”
I shook my head slowly side to side.
Paul stood up.
“Get him out of here,” Paul yelled at the manager.
“I’m going.” Harrison held his hands up but stared at me. Like he needed some reassurance his message had gotten through.
I had to say something. I had to let him know I was with him.
“You will never see him again.” Paul leaned in and growled in my face.

Excerpt #2

When I pushed off the bar and turned around, there she stood by the main elevators.
She wore a skintight V-neck t-shirt with a black corset underneath. Her short pleated skirt barely covered her ass. She wore tall back heels. Not quiet schoolgirl but sexy as hell.
She stood stark-still but searched the place, wringing her hands in the process. She was upset, fidgety. I knew the look. She needed something. She needed me.
She walked further into the club, and I came up behind her.
She gasped, feeling my presence. All the little hairs on my arms stood at attention being so close to her. She turned toward me, with her eyes cast down. I lifted her chin and searched her eyes. They were sad and frustrated.
She was like an addict afraid to ask for another hit—out of shame or guilt, I wasn’t sure—but I did know I wanted to be the one to give it to her. Taking all she had told me and the natural bond we shared, I knew I could do this for her and keep her safe.
“Do you trust me?” I asked.
Her body absorbed my words with a shudder.
“Yes,” she whispered.
I ran my hand down her neck, over her shoulder, and down her arm until I clasped her wrist. I headed toward the private rooms and pulled her along with me.
When we reached the door, I opened the door and released my hold on Brooklyn. I wanted her to walk in on her own. Once in the room, I was in control, and she knew it. It needed to be her decision.
I knew what I wanted from her, but what she needed right now wasn’t the same thing. I wanted her to be my sub. Completely. One hundred percent devoted to me and only me. It wasn’t reality, but I didn’t care. I was being selfish. As her Dom, I would be responsible for her needs, her wants, and desires, and as her Dom, I knew that wasn’t what she needed right now.
She walked into the room. Her body visibly relaxed at the sight of the spanking bench in the center. She stood a few feet away waiting on my instructions.
“Take off your shoes.” She stepped out of them, and I kicked them to the side.
“I want you to bend over the bench. I’m going to restrain your arms at the wrist but not your legs. I’m going to spank you until you let go of what’s causing you so much pain.”
Her eyes teared up, and she blinked them away.
“What’s your safe word?” I asked as I stood behind her. I couldn’t look into her eyes.
“Um.” She wavered on her feet. I gripped the back of her neck.
She yelped.
“What’s your safe word, Brooklyn?” My tone firm.
“Pancake.”
I blinked.
“You say pancake, and I stop.” I stepped in front of her. “You understand?”
“Yes.”
“Brooklyn,” I whispered, giving her one opportunity to tell me to stop. I wanted her to tell me this wasn’t what she came her for. She bit her lip and gave me a little smile; her eyes pleaded with me to continue.
“Lie on the bench.” She hesitated for a moment but complied.
She gripped the front of the bench, felt the leather, and slid her hands down the length as she situated her body over it.
Her legs spread. She stood with her feet flat on the floor just outside the legs of the bench. Her hands came to the other edge. I squatted down and took one of her hands and kissed it. Her head turned, and she glared at me, but her face softened when she saw it wasn’t a passionate kiss; it was to reassure her that I had her. I did the same before securing the other wrist. She pulled back on the restraints and then lowered her cheek to the bench.
I walked around her a few times. I stopped behind her. I could spank her over her skirt, but it wouldn’t have the same effect. She needed flesh on flesh. Besides, I wasn’t sure how long it had been since she had been spanked properly, if ever.
I flipped up her skirt in one swift motion.
I couldn’t help it; I took a moment and stared, appreciated the beautiful specimen of a woman bent over and ready for me. My cock strained against my jeans, and I knew this scene was going to push me.
I preached how much satisfaction I garnered from separating the Dom/sub relationship from a purely sexual encounter. Like I was more powerful than all the Dom I knew because they indulged in control of a sexual nature in order to get off themselves. I was more evolved, more in control, more self aware.
I am fucking full of shit.

POST! SHREDDED BY CHARLES O’DONNELL (@puretextuality)

Who can erase my existence from the mind of God?

Grace, a civil servant with a sordid past, wakes one morning to find that she’s become a viral sensation: Her life has been hacked, woven into a lifestream, a full-immersion, 3-D, virtual reality experience that thrill-seeking stream riders can inhabit for a few dollars. Knowing that she’s powerless to keep strangers from getting their jollies reliving her life, and fearing that her teenage son, Dylan, might stumble upon her explicit lifestream, Grace finds a shredder, an expert in the ways of the Worldstream, the nearly infinitely detailed record of data from the ubiquitous Internet of Things. He’ll erase her lifestream and all of her data since the day she was born. Her life will be hers again, but she’ll be outside of the Worldstream–and she can never go back.

About Charles O’Donnell

Charles O’Donnell writes thrillers with high-tech themes in international and futuristic settings. He recently retired from a career of thirty-five years in engineering and manufacturing to write full-time, leveraging his decades of writing experience, mostly email, but, as Charles points out, “that counts.”

His latest book, Shredded, is an expression of his fascination with the progress of technology to either augment reality or to replace it entirely, and his concern over the erosion of privacy in a world in which everything is shared online, and nobody reads the terms and conditions.

Charles lives with Helen, his wife, life partner and fellow paranoid in Westerville, Ohio.

book blurb

Dawn Conners’s parents are famous for finding historic treasures, but she has a knack for losing things—her job, her boyfriend, and now, her reputation. Thanks to a mud-slinging exposé, Dawn’s late great-grandfather is assumed guilty of stealing silver from a century-old shipwreck. Hoping to clear his name, Dawn returns to Starlight Cove, her idyllic hometown on Lake Michigan, where the doomed vessel sleeps beneath the beam of a ramshackle lighthouse.

Her plan: remodel and sell the lighthouse while untangling the perplexing family mystery. Neither task is easy, especially once her well-meaning parents and the quirky locals—including nautical researcher and Starlight Cove’s most eligible bachelor, Kip Whittaker—get involved. Despite their attraction, Dawn is reluctant to trust Kip, or any of the close-knit townsfolk. But as she pieces together the truth, Dawn’s once-shuttered heart opens up. And if she’s willing, the lighthouse might guide her to a place she never expected to find, where the past entwines with a bright new beginning.

excerpt

“Dawn Conners?” a voice called.

I snapped out of my reverie and stared.

A gorgeous guy in his midthirties dragged a rickety rowboat through the water. His dark hair was windblown, cheeks rough with stubble, and his navy T-shirt clung to a strong upper body. He flashed me a smile I felt all the way down to my toes.

“Are you Dawn?” he called.

“Yes,” I said, smoothing my hair.

Who on earth was he?

I watched as he tossed a bowline knot over a metal pole and cinched it with a firm tug. The rope went taut, along with his upper arms. Then he jogged across the sand and came to a halt next to the boardwalk.

Midnight-blue eyes surveyed my fitted linen dress, bare legs, and low pumps. In a voice much too husky for polite conversation, he said, “You always wear high heels to the beach?”

I flushed.

Even though Libby liked to say that my fitted dresses and pinned-up hair made me look like a candidate for public office, I didn’t expect to hear it from a stranger.

“Depends on the day,” I shot back. “Do you always look like you just rolled out of bed?”

He grinned. “You’re already thinking about me in bed?”

“I have an appointment with Kipling Whittaker,” I said. “If you don’t mind, I’d like to—”

“You can call me Kip.”

Arrgh. I couldn’t believe this.

The fact that my mother had led me to believe that this guy was a gentleman of a certain age meant she was up to one thing: matchmaking. In her mind, I came to Starlight Cove for a fun, relaxing summer vacation. That assessment could not be further from the truth. The last thing I wanted to do was waste time flirting with some rumple-haired playboy.

Especially one named Kip.

SOMETHING BORROWED BY EVE DANGERFIELD (@Eve_Dangerfield)

Pageflex Persona [document: PRS0000447_00006]

blurb
Going to an eight-day tropical wedding sounds great, right?
Wrong.
Elle Sahlstrom hates weddings, but she promised her best friend Tory she’d attend her destination ceremony. That is, despite having to endure obnoxious cousins, bad wine, and a phallus-laden bachelorette party. But that’s not the worst part.
The worst part just happened to be sitting next to her on the plane, on his way to the same wedding, guaranteed to be the same insufferable jerk he was years ago.
Jackson Proveaux knows Elle hates him with a passion, but it’s that same passion that has him convinced she’s perfect for him. Unfortunately, he made mistakes in the past, mistakes that involved cocktails, out of control minivans, and a giant misunderstanding that cost him his one and only shot with Elle. The French expat sees the wedding as a chance to atone for his sins. He offers to spend a week at Elle’s mercy, and if she still hates him at the end, he’ll leave her alone forever.
Unable to resist a win-win deal, or Jackson, Elle agrees. Their arrangement quickly becomes more complicated than either of them could have anticipated. The grumpy environmentalist never thought Jackson would be able to make her laugh, and he didn’t count on the hot-headed beauty dominating him in the bedroom…or the fact that he’d like it.
A fiery temper, two sets of handcuffs and copious amounts of tequila are guaranteed to make this situation complicated. As the lovers become more entwined in each other’s lives and hearts, one question remains—will their truce survive the wedding, or are they living on borrowed time?

Excerpt #1
He had never needed a woman more than he needed one right then. He didn’t care what she looked like, how old she was, or if she found him attractive.
His body throbbed with pain and blood lust. He leaned against the cool wall of the dressing room and closed his eyes. He needed a woman before the pain settled into him and rendered him useless.
“Igor?”
He lifted his bloody, bruised limbs from the wall and turned.
Maryruth stood a few feet from him. Her blonde hair was pulled back into a ponytail, the bright lights overhead made her look pale. Or maybe she was pale because all the blood had drained from her face.
“What are you doing here?” he rasped. His gaze left her eyes to drag down her body. She wore a pair of dark jeans, flats, a peacoat. Completely out of place in a sinner’s den.
He wanted to drag his tongue along the column of her throat, taste her skin, mar it with his blood. The primitive picture took hold of him until he was reaching for her. He forced his hands down.
“Get out,” he gritted.
“You’re hurt.”
“Da.”
“Let me help you.” Her eyes widened as she pled.
“You’ll hurt too, if you stay.”
She took a step closer. “You need me.”
He didn’t correct her.
“You need me the way a man needs a woman.” Her eyes dropped to the bulge in his shorts. “So take me.”

Excerpt #2
“I’ve never done anything the way other people do,” he said. “I’ve always been different that way. I spent years fighting, trying to be something I wasn’t. You know what I learned? Who cares? People judge. Fuck them. You get one life. How are you going to live it?”
They faced one another, their breaths mingling, a shaft of moonlight giving them just enough light to see outlines and curves.
Maryruth rolled on top of him and stripped off her shirt. Leaning over, she grazed her lips against his. “Show me how to live, Igor.”

It all began with a choice…

Anna Pierce had, by all accounts, a blessed life. She grew up in a home full of laughter, love, and support. Where the biggest problem she faced (other than how to deal with her family’s crazy antics) was deciding her plans for college. Little did she know the ugly path her choice would drag her down.

A choice that left her free-falling…

Fast forward five years. Her life still held that same laughter, love, and support, but it was no longer full. A shadow hung overhead, waiting. Always threatening.

Until he caught her…

Jake Taylor stormed into her life and turned her world upside down. He made her feel things she’d hidden away from; made her face life again. But, most importantly, he helped her find the light.

And gave her happily ever after…

It all started with a wish…

Evangeline Grant, or Evan as you’d know her (if you liked living), grew up surrounded by love. And because of all that love, she had one wish in life. It was loaded, but it was simple.

A wish that left her heartbroken and hopeless…

Unfortunately, years down the road, that wish was obliterated. A secret she kept hidden away, suffering alone with only her parents to comfort her in her dark times. But she wasn’t the only one keeping a secret.

Until he gave her hope…

Then Mr. Tall, Dark, and F***ing Godly himself had to show up and flip the script. For the first time in years, Evan found herself with hope; all thanks to Emmanuel Silva. As they each face their demons, a decision has to be made. A decision that will change the course of not only their lives but a precious little girl’s as well.

And helped her wish of happily ever after come true…

Discovering we’re not alone in the universe can be a blessing and a curse.

When a mysterious spaceship appears above Cambria, Zoe remains skeptical that it’s anything but an elaborate hoax. By the time the first spaceship is joined by two others, Zoe finally admits that Earth has been invaded, even though it’s a pretty lame invasion: The aliens look remarkably human and keep to themselves. From what reporters are able to learn about them, they seem incredibly arrogant and boring anyway.

When Zoe meets Peyton, the Security Chief for Earth’s newest residents, her opinion of them finally begins to shift, although she is reluctant to become involved with someone who isn’t even human. But she soon discovers that these aliens are far more dangerous than they’ve led everyone to believe, and the secrets they are hiding may signal the destruction of her entire planet.

Excerpts from Peyton’s Myth, book one of The Cambria Code trilogy, that show Zoe’s progression from meeting Peyton to traveling across the universe with him to falling in love.

On meeting Peyton for the first time:

Zoe dug her phone out of her pocket to check her email while she waited. Apparently, the typing that had preoccupied Mia had been an email taunting her and telling her she’d been wrong about the plane being a spacecraft, she’d been wrong about these people being human, and she was wrong about them being an Invading Alien Asshole Army. Zoe hardly looked up from her phone when she heard her name called. She plucked the hot coffee cup up from the counter, mumbled a quick thanks, and kept typing one-handed as she left the Starbucks to go back to work.
She was so busy typing her well-thought out argument with her coworker, that she wasn’t paying attention and didn’t even see the man she walked right into. Her phone slipped from her hand and she reflexively squeezed the coffee cup so she wouldn’t drop it, which caused the hot coffee to erupt like a volcano all over her hand and arm.
Zoe yelped and dropped the cup anyway.
“Are you all right?” the man asked.
He grabbed her hand to examine it, but Zoe pulled it away from him.
“No, I’m not all right!” she cried. She was about to yell at him for grabbing her, but the unusual accent caught her attention and as she looked up from her pink, burning hand, she recognized this man, this beautiful face. She’d seen him once before.
“You’re one of them,” she whispered. Zoe held her hand to her chest and the man kept his eyes on her injury.
“You should see a doctor.”
Zoe shook her head slowly. “It’s not serious.”
He lifted his eyes to meet hers and she noticed they were almost blue, but not quite. There was something unusual about their color, too. Much like the way they spoke, there was something slightly off about them but she couldn’t tell what.

On agreeing to return to his home planet with him:

“Then you’re out of options. You have to go home, Peyton.”
Peyton closed his eyes and ran his fingers through his thick auburn hair. “Ok. But only on one condition.”
Zoe pulled the blankets higher around her waist and asked, “What’s that?”
“You come with me.”
“Peyton,” Zoe gasped.
He opened his eyes, so full of a sadness and pain and permanent loss. “I can’t go back there alone.”
“And I can’t be her. I can’t be your sister.”
“I don’t want you to be. I don’t expect you to be. I’m not trying to be coercive, but I can’t even propose this to Jeffrey if I know I’m stepping foot on that planet again without everything I’d loved most.”
Zoe’s heart beat so fast and so hard, she felt deafened by the sound of it. And that irrational part of her brain spoke too quickly, too irrationally and irresponsibly and recklessly.
“Ok, Peyton. I’ll go.”
On her depression after leaving Earth and falling in love with a man who often acts like he can’t accept her love:

Peyton’s strong arms reached over to her and wrapped around her, lifting her from her seat and pulling her to his lap where he kept his arms around her firmly and protectively. When he kissed her, Zoe felt the cold and fear and pain chased away by a warmth that rushed throughout her body. His hand slipped beneath her shirt and grazed the skin on her back and she pulled at the hemline of the shirt on his uniform, gently tracing her fingers along the hard muscles on his abdomen.
When he broke their kiss, gasping and trying to catch his breath, Zoe knew he would pull away from her again, that he would tell her, once more, how he couldn’t walk this path with her. She could already feel the black edges of that dark pool creeping back toward her. But Peyton didn’t tell her he needed to leave now or that he loved her but could never offer her more than his friendship. He placed his hands on the sides of her face and looked into her eyes and told her, “I love you so much.”
“Then stay with me,” Zoe whispered. “Tonight. Every night. Stay with me.”
Peyton kissed her again and lifted her onto the table and she pulled his shirt off, running her hands softly down his chest to the edge of his pants and he moaned quietly as his lips left gentle kisses down her neck and across her shoulder blade. Part of her wanted to beg him to rip her clothes off while part of her wanted him to just keep touching her and kissing her, sending out those ripples of light that banished the darkness. She thought maybe if he kissed her and touched her enough, he could banish that darkness forever.

Author Bio:
S.M. Schmitz is a USA Today Bestselling Author and has an M.A. in modern European history. She is a former world history instructor who now writes novels filled with mythology and fantasy and, sometimes, aliens.
Her novels are infused with the same humorous sarcasm that she employed frequently in the classroom, and as a native of Louisiana, she sets many of her scenes here. Like Dietrich in Resurrected, she is convinced Louisiana has been cursed with mosquitoes much like Biblical Egypt with its locusts.
