Perfectionistic Branna Lind has found true love with James Newbern, but the winds of Hurricane Katrina push their wedding date into an uncertain future. She can’t wait on Fleur de Lis to be restored to marry James. They need to wed pronto, before she reveals news sure to shock her family.

James is determined to protect Branna. Since their engagement, his gun toting ex-fiancée has been dipping into crazy. He’s certain she’ll settle down after the wedding, but when she steals Branna’s heirloom pearls—her something old for the wedding—James takes matters into his own hands. And despite Branna’s ranting, he’s not agreeing to a quickie Vegas wedding. His fiancée will be a Fleur de Lis bride, just as tradition dictates. Or he’ll die trying.

The path to “I do” is more challenging than Branna and James ever imagined, but they’re determined to get their happily ever after.

Excerpt:

“Who would do this?” she wailed.

Bed linens, scooped from the bed, were piled in a heap on the floor. The mattress ruined by a large X from corner to corner, looked naked and raw. A bedside lamp had been smashed against the wall. A gaping hole in the drywall sprouted pink insulation.

“Miss Lind. Do you have any enemies? This appears to be a threat or a message rather than a burglary. Can you identify anything taken?”

“My pearls?”

James stepped away. She raced to her dresser, her heart thudding faster than racecar pistons, she yanked on the top dresser drawer. A moment of hope shot through her as she reached for the dark blue velvet box.

The string of perfectly matched, white pearls were gone. Her wedding would be incomplete without that special something old. The thief had robbed her unborn child of a precious family heirloom. “Oh, God.”

Arriving at the RV, he opened the door and climbed aboard. The passenger seat was empty. Where had Branna gone?

“I’m back here,” she called out. “I need your help, please.”

He paused at the sweetness in her voice, a tone he hadn’t heard since before they postponed the Labor Day weekend wedding. Her plea ignited his hero instincts. Anything for his woman.

Checking the lock on the door, he then made his way to the rear of the motorhome where blackout shades shrouded the room in darkness. His eyes took a moment to adjust.

“Hey there, handsome,” Branna cooed.

A spotlight over the bed suddenly illuminated her. He sucked in a breath. Stretched out on white satin sheets, Branna leaned against several pillows with one knee raised. The pearls glistened around her neck… She motioned him closer.

Ravage popped into his mind. He swallowed hard. He wanted to send her body into frantic need that only he could satisfy. He let go of a ragged breath. All other thoughts faded away. Only she existed in that moment.

blurb

LOVE ON THE MOUNTAIN

Peace and quiet—that’s all Connor Pierce wanted from the rented cabin on Crimson Mountain. Yet the caretaker turned out to be lovely April Sanders—a total distraction. As were the two little girls she was caring for. Connor’s plan to forget his painful past soon detoured into giving the ladies a Christmas to remember.

Being named guardian of two motherless girls has upended April’s world. Add to the mix a mysterious, brooding writer claiming he wanted to be left alone while going out of his way to bring a little joy to the girls, and she has quite the quandary. April had counted herself out of a happy ending. But maybe Santa still had a few surprises up his merry old sleeve…

“Thank you for taking care of me these past couple of days.”

She sniffed. “It’s my job.”

He acknowledged her words with a small nod, or maybe it was the bitterness creeping into her tone that he recognized. “How are Ranie and Shay?”

“Do you really care?”

“Yes.” He sighed. “Even though I don’t want to care. The other night…on the highway…it affected me. Hearing that scream when the car slid on the road and the headlights moving closer.” He paused and a shudder ran through him. “I’m sorry I disappeared, but I wasn’t fit company for anyone after that.”

“It’s fine.” She tried to hold on to her anger even as it slipped through her body like grains of sand through her fingers. She needed that anger. It was safer with this man. Safer for her heart. “You don’t owe me an explanation.”

“I want to give you one anyway.” His hold on her gentled and he rubbed his thumb over the sensitive flesh on the inside of her wrist. “I’ve missed you, April. I’ve spent the past three years alone, and suddenly I’m lonely without you. I stopped caring. I didn’t think I had it in me to care, and I’m still so turned around. Every little thing sets me off and I can’t stop it. But I also can’t stop wanting to be near you. It doesn’t make sense.”

She closed her eyes against the onslaught of emotions that poured through her at his words and the gentle pressure to her skin.

“Do you know,” he asked, shifting so close now that she could feel his breath against her hair, “that I listen for the door to close after you leave and rush down to the kitchen because your scent lingers after you’re gone?”

She huffed out a laugh that sounded breathless to her own ears. “Are you saying I smell?”

“Like lavender and vanilla. I’ve made an idiot of myself the past two days following traces of you around the house.”

“Why are you telling me this?”

“Because I want you to know what you do to me, even if I should stay away. It’s better for both of us if I turn around and walk back to my bedroom until you’re gone.”

She waited a moment, but he didn’t move. “You’re not walking.”

“Hell if I can make myself go.”

“Don’t go,” she whispered. Slowly, as if she were gentling a stray animal, she lifted her hand. Her finger brushed the prickly strands of his dark beard, and his lips parted.

“I forgot to shave,” he muttered.

“Too busy?”

He took a breath, released it and then nodded. “Writing.”

“Connor,” April whispered. “That’s wonderful.”

He shrugged and looked away. “Who knows how long it will last. But the words are coming. So damn many, drowning me with their force. It’s like…”

She pressed her palm to his cheek, gratified when he leaned into it. “Like what?”

“Like it used to be.” He said the words softly, as if they were an apology. April could feel the tension in his body and wished, just for a moment, she could transfer his pain to herself. Give him a few seconds of remembering what it was like to live without the weight of guilt and sorrow bearing down on him.

“Look at me,” she said, moving closer to him, pressing into his warmth. His arms came around her waist, his hands splayed open against her back. She could feel their heat and strength through the thin cotton of her pajama shirt. So much talent flowed out of those hands. The worlds he created within his imagination and put on paper for readers to discover. “You have a gift, Connor Pierce.”

“It’s not—”

“Don’t say it. Whatever you’re thinking.” She brushed her lips over his. “Those words are in you. The stories you write are part of you.”

“How can they still be there when I’m dead inside, April? They were part of my life before, but now I’m—”

“You’re here,” she told him, and held her hand to his chest. His heartbeat was strong and sure under her palm. “With me. Now.”

“You make me feel things I’d thought I lost the capacity to feel. You make me want things—” His voice broke off as he drew in another deep breath. He leaned down until their foreheads touched. They stood that way for several long moments, her lips just grazing his. She breathed him in and it felt like she was pulling his essence into her lungs. Like he was part of her. A part she thought she’d lost after the illness and heartbreak that had changed who she was inside.

“I’m sorry I can’t be the man you deserve,” he whispered. “I’ll hurt you and girls. I hurt everyone—”

“Not now.” She pressed her mouth to the base of his neck, tasted the salt on his skin and wanted more. “This moment is ours.”

He claimed her mouth then, kissed her until the feel and taste of him was all she knew. Everything else burned away in the flame that was her need for him. He pulled her closer, if that was possible. Their tongues tangled and his hands skimmed under the shirt and up her spine, sending tingles as they moved. His kiss was demanding and consuming, and every inch of her body burned for him. For more.

His lips trailed over her jaw and he nipped at the sensitive flesh of her earlobe. “Will you stay?”

The simple question rocked her. How was it that such a longing could have been buried inside her and she’d never guessed? Even at her most in-love-and-alive, she’d never felt anything quite like the force of her desire for Connor. Still, she shook her head. “I have to go back in case the girls need me. If Shay wakes up…”

“I understand,” he said, pulling his hands from underneath her shirt.

No, her body screamed. Don’t let him go.

“Come with me,” she told him, lacing her fingers with his.

He stared at her, his eyes unreadable once more. She hated that he could slip behind his mask so easily. She wanted to break through until she saw every bit of him, good and bad. She wanted to know him and, in return, allow him access to all the secret places she kept hidden from the rest of the world.

BLITZ! THE PAWN BY SKYE WARREN

AMAZON: http://amzn.to/2fqh65J

Kobo: https://www.kobo.com/us/en/ebook/the-pawn-14

Gabriel Miller swept into my life like a storm. He tore down my father with cold retribution, leaving him penniless in a hospital bed. I quit my private all-girl’s college to take care of the only family I have left.

There’s one way to save our house, one thing I have left of value.

My virginity.

A forbidden auction…

Gabriel appears at every turn. He seems to take pleasure in watching me fall. Other times he’s the only kindness in a brutal underworld.

Except he’s playing a deeper game than I know. Every move brings us together, every secret rips us apart. And when the final piece is played, only one of us can be left standing.

* * * * * * * * * * * * * * *

THE PAWN is a full-length contemporary novel from New York Times bestselling author Skye Warren about revenge and seduction in the game of love. It’s the first book in the brand new ENDGAME series.

Excerpt #1

A sense of familiarity fills the space between us even though I know we haven’t met. This man is a stranger, but he looks at me as if he wants to know me. He looks at me as if he already does. There’s an intensity to his eyes when they sweep over my face, as firm and as telling as a touch.

“I need…” A thud against my ribs as I think about all the things I need—a rewind button. One person in the city who doesn’t hate me by name alone. “I need a loan.”

He gives me a slow perusal, from the nervous slide of my tongue along my lips to the high neckline of my dress. I tried to dress professionally—a black cowl-necked sweater and pencil skirt. His strange amber gaze unbuttons my coat, pulls away the expensive cotton, tears off the cotton fabric of my bra and panties. He sees right through me, and I shiver as a ripple of awareness runs over my skin.

I’ve met a million men in my life. Shaken hands. Smiled. I’ve never felt as seen through as I do right now. Never felt like someone has turned me inside out, every dark secret exposed to the harsh light. He sees my weaknesses, and from the cruel set of his mouth, he likes them.

His lids lower. “And what do you have for collateral?”

Nothing except my word. That wouldn’t be worth anything if he knew my name. I swallow past the lump in my throat. “I don’t know.”

Nothing.

He takes a step forward, and suddenly I’m crowded against the brick wall beside the door, his large body blocking out the warm light from inside. He feels like a furnace in front me, the heat of him in sharp contrast to the cold brick at my back. “What’s your name, girl?”

The word girl is a slap in the face. I force myself not to flinch, but it’s hard. Everything about him overwhelms me—his size, his low voice. “I’ll tell Mr. Scott my name.”

In the shadowed space between us, his smile spreads, white and taunting. The pleasure that lights his strange yellow eyes is almost sensual, as if I caressed him. “You’ll have to get past me.”

My heart thuds. He likes that I’m challenging him, and God, that’s even worse. What if I’ve already failed? I’m free-falling, tumbling, turning over without a single hope to anchor me. Where will I go if he turns me away? What will happen to my father?

“Let me go,” I whisper, but my hope fades fast.

His eyes flash with warning. “Little Avery James, all grown up.”

A small gasp resounds in the space between us. He already knows my name. That means he knows who my father is. He knows what he’s done. Denials rush to my throat, pleas for understanding. The hard set of his eyes, the broad strength of his shoulders tells me I won’t find any mercy here.

Excerpt #2

“Kinky stuff,” Gabriel says, the corner of his mouth turned up. “What do you know about kinky stuff?”

My face feels hot. “I’ve seen the movie, okay? I know about things.”

That’s a lie. I squirmed through the movie, lips parted in shock. How did people think of this stuff? Why would any girl like it? And I’m not just a random face in this city. My picture has appeared in the society papers. People know my father. Maybe some of the men were cheated by him, just like Gabriel. Would they want to hurt me in revenge?

“Tell me what you know,” Gabriel says.

The words are mocking, but something sparks inside me. “I know that some men like to hurt women. I know it makes them feel big and strong to hurt someone weaker.”

“And are you weak, little virgin?”

No, I want to say. Except I’ve lost everything in the past two months. My life, my school. My friends. I’m a shadow of my former self. Little virgin makes me fight back, though. Gabriel makes me fight back. “I’m doing what I have to do. Is that weak?”

His gaze flickers over my body, the yellow of his eyes brighter in the lamp’s glow. When he meets my eyes, there’s a begrudging respect.

Excerpt: Warning ~ Spice Level HOT

SET UP: Aubrey has returned to her private bungalow, a bit tipsy and feeling slightly off-center after the party she’d been at has abruptly ended because someone fell off the ope- concept infinity dance floor. She’s noticed Diego…twice before.

***

I stretch my arms forward for balance and zombie-walk in the darkness toward my bed, which is furthest from the door.

Alone.

Light of head, light in spirit.

Feeling reckless.

What I should be doing instead of the zombie walk is the walk of shame. Where did the handsome hunk with Superman’s buns disappear to? Maybe he’s in a bungalow close by? Do I want him to be in the bungalow close by . . . within proximity to me and my lustful thoughts?

Do I dare seek him out?

My heart races at the naughty idea. Tomorrow. When your head is clearer you can restrategize the perfect introduction.

I inhale deeply and move over to the side of my bed. A wonderfully tantalizing hint of citrus fills in the air. The maids must have sprayed some kind of orange-infused air freshener layered with a hint of spice. Bringing the outdoors inside. And I plan to do the same because since I can’t gaze at the stars, I’ve decided to dream about them.

Stars and oranges and sexy bad boys.

The bedside light abruptly turns on.

I squeal and jump, my mouth falling open with disbelief. Temptation is here . . . tonight . . . in my bed.

“Oh,” I hear myself gasp.

Seconds pass as his eyes rake over me, down to my toes and back up to my face.

All I can do is stare at him, falling into stunned silence.

“You’ve got a beautiful body, chavita.”

Naked. I’m naked. I immediately fold an arm across my chest and hang a hand in front of my crotch. “What are you doing in here?” I murmur. Up close, he’s even more gorgeous. Breathtakingly so, with lips plump for kissing and eyes the color of caramel.

Except they’re the opposite of sweet

Naughty, come-play-with-me eyes.

Do I want to play? Be daring, be bold? I did a few seconds ago . . .

“Did you have too much to drink? Wander into the wrong bungalow?” I mean, pinch me, please. Things like this don’t happen to me. My life is rather predictable. Boring, perhaps.

“I’m waiting for you.”

He pulls back the crisp white bedsheet.

Lord have mercy but do I need another shot. Liquid courage. Drunken bravado.

Whatever. The sheet settles around his waist and I’m treated to a mouthwatering display of muscled chest. My gaze drops lower to the taut plains and valleys of his abs. And lower still . . . to the prominent bulge highlighted against the thin cotton material.

He’s naked.

My lips part in surprise.

“That’s for you, chava.”

Oh my God. He knows exactly the effect he has on me, doesn’t he?

“I don’t remember inviting you in.”

“Don’t you? I could have pushed your lovely body up against that window, hiked up your skimpy red dress, and taken you right there, in front of all those dancers.

And guess what, you’d have begged me to do it.”

I blink.

There’s confidence and there’s arrogance. Even if what he’s saying is true . . .

“You playing hard to get?” he murmurs. Yet his tone is firm, no-nonsense.

“Hard to get . . . no . . .”

“Then come here.”

I don’t move. Hell, I can’t. My head’s spinning as fast as my heart’s pounding. His bold proposition is tempting . . . so tempting . . .

No one will know. But you. And him.

He sighs, sitting up in bed and folding the sheet back. With slow, smoothly deliberate movements, he slides out of bed to stand before me.

But he looks past me to the painting on the wall. “I’m not fucking you with un campo lleno de vacas watching us.” Moving around me, he scoops up my red dress and tosses it at the picture. It snags on the wooden frame, completely covering the pastoral scene.

“Much better,” he informs me, the tone of his voice less of a rumble and more at a normal pitch.

“You’re awfully presumptuous.”

“Tell me to leave and I will.”

I bite my lip. Isn’t it so much easier with him going all alpha on me?

“Sí?”

I pause in indecision. A feeling as foreign to me as discovering a guy so hot, so far removed from my world, my realm of possibility, is in my bed, where I want him to stay.

He gives me a lopsided grin.

A killer grin, with a little dimple that causes butterflies to flutter about inside my stomach.

A seasoned seducer, who probably charms the panties off every woman he meets. I mean, just look at him. Of course he does.

Yet it’s the hunger in his eyes as he rakes his gaze over me that does me in. “You want me?” he asks as our eyes collide.

What is life truly without a few regrets? The rational part of me understands this, that if I fuck this gorgeous man, that’s what he’ll be. A regret. Yet the wild, recently liberated side of me, whispers, Do it. Make him the best regret ever.

“Yes,” I say, a little breathlessly. Okay, a whole lotta breathlessly.

He really does smile this time, the kind that causes tiny creases to form around his eyes. “Good. Now touch me.”

Excerpt:

A low groan escaped my throat. “Just remember who started this,” I warned before I nipped at her jaw. My hands found her ass and I gave a gentle squeeze before lifting her up onto the counter.
Tess flashed me a devastating grin and it was over. All my anger faded. Replaced by carnal need.
My heart thumped erratically as my cock pulsed against my pants, growing hard. A delightful shiver of desire ran through her as I reached for the hem of her shirt and lifted it over her head, tossing it to the kitchen floor. The white lacy bra she wore, a stark contrast to her olive skin, was a tease. She liked for everyone to think she was such a lady, but only I knew the truth. Tess spread her thighs wider and wrapped her legs around my waist, pulling me flush against her. My erection pressed into the hot center of her core. I could feel the heat through the thin material of our sweats.
“Hold on to me,” I commanded as I lifted her off the counter enough to yank her bottoms and panties past her hips before I set her back down.
Tess squealed. “The counter is freezing!”
“You won’t be cold for long,” I growled, my voice laced with primal desire as I lay her back against the counter the rest of the way.
I held one of her dainty shoulders with one hand and slowly trailed my other hand downward, skimming the front of her torso, over the swell of her breasts to her jeweled belly button. Leaning forward I flicked the tiny diamond with my tongue as my fingers snaked between her thighs, followed by my mouth—placing flesh-searing kisses in my wake until I settled between her legs and buried my face between her thighs. Her hands stroked my bald head as moans filled the kitchen, drowning out Ami’s whines and scratching sounds from the other side of the bedroom door.
We lost track of time—of the world going on around us. The only thing that mattered—was us. Our heavy pants filled the air—and the damn dog’s howls. We laughed and smiled as our bodies exploded in fiery sensations, our souls colliding in passion and love.

boyfriend, Justin, isn’t so perfect for her after all. But a matchmaker should
be able to successfully match herself, right? Thankfully, she’ll never see the
handsome stranger again. Until she heads home with Justin for the holidays and
learns that the sexy stranger is none other than Justin’s older brother, Matt.
Matt Ellis is trying to be on his best behavior for his mother—it is Christmas, after all.
But when he recognizes the beautiful woman from the elevator—the one he hasn’t
been able to stop thinking about for months—his best behavior is being held by
a thread. Matt’s always sacrificed for his family, and nothing is more
important than their happiness, but the more time he spends around Kennedy, the
more he wonders if her supposed “right match” might just be the wrong
brother.

Matt looked at his sister. “What do you think?”

“We can let her in on the secret,” Caitlyn said with a huge grin. “She’s definitely one of us.”

Matt hesitated. “Okay. The truth is…we all hate the fruitcake.”

“I knew it!” she exclaimed then frowned. “But I don’t understand. Why pretend to like it, then?”

“Honestly? Because none of us has the heart to tell her the truth. It makes her so happy. She’s one of the two percent who actually enjoys it.”

“And your dad,” she added. “He liked it, too. Your mom said so.”

Matt shook his head gravely. “No, he hated it the most.”

Kennedy blinked then looked to Caitlyn. “He did?”

“Yup.” Caitlyn shrugged. “Like Matt said, we didn’t have the heart to make her feel bad on Christmas. At least this time she didn’t put any figs or dried pineapple in it. That was a particularly bad year. Although Justin tolerated it the best out of all of us.”

Kennedy cracked a smile. “So your mom goes through all this trouble of making a fruitcake every Christmas and she’s the only one who eats it?”

“Oh, no,” Matt assured her. “We’ll all choke down a slice. You, too, since you’ll soon be part of the family. And we’ll all tell her how great it is. It’s tradition.”

“Tradition,” Caitlyn echoed firmly.

Kennedy laughed. Oh my, if she didn’t already love this family, this aspect of it only endeared them to her more. “Well, your secret is safe with me. I love traditions myself.”

“That’s good,” Caitlyn said, cracking herself up, “because you and Matt are standing under the mistletoe.”

What?!

Kennedy cautiously looked up as if to find the Sword of Damocles dangling over her, but instead found a small green ball of mistletoe tied up with ribbon. Crap! Her gaze dropped to Matt, who held a gleam of interest in his eyes, and her cheeks caught fire.

“Oh, well, that’s a silly tradition,” she said hurriedly, “I mean, we don’t have to do that.” Do we?

Barbara walked back into the room. “What don’t you have to do?”

Caitlyn pointed to the ball. “Matt and Kennedy are under the mistletoe.”

“Oh, how nice,” Barbara said, clasping her hands. “Kiss her, Matt. It’s Christmas after all.”

Matt glanced at Kennedy and stiffened, but without further argument leaned in to her. Her heart fluttered like a hummingbird in anticipation. She caught the pleasant scent of pine and soap on his skin as he brushed his lips against her cheek, hovering for just a few brief seconds before he was once again at a safe distance from her. Such a simple kiss, yet her emotions whirled and skidded.

“I’d better get going,” Matt murmured, backing into the door.

His mom frowned. “Are you okay, dear? Maybe you should sit down a bit first.”

“No, I need to get kissing—er, going. I need to go.” His gaze reluctantly returned to hers, and his voice dipped. “I’ll see you tomorrow night?”

She nodded, not trusting her voice. Then he was out the door as if suddenly spooked.

Unfortunately, she knew exactly how he felt.

BLITZ! NEW YORK ROMANCE BY JOANNE DANNON AND CHARMAINE ROSS

nyr1

New York Romance by Joanne Dannon and Charmaine Ross

Fall in love with these two holiday novellas.

Charmaine Ross, and I came up with the concept of the Happy Holidays series and loved the idea of having two friends both finding love during the holidays. We’ve linked the stories, in “New York Romance”, with both friends finding love in New York, thanks to the magic of the holiday season.

A Magical Chanukah in New York

When falling in love isn’t as easy as falling in love.

Lisa Sassoon has shunned the scandal of her loser ex-boyfriend cheating on her by escaping to New York. Instead of sightseeing, she’s become a recluse focussing on helping the less fortunate at a homeless shelter.

Gabe Olivari, entrepreneur and savvy business New Yorker, can’t let go of the pain of losing his best friend. So caught up in his own grief and believing he doesn’t deserve to be happy, he compensates by pushing everyone close to him away.

But when Lisa and Gabe meet, there is an instant connection that forces them to question not only their behaviours but their aspirations.

Can a dash of Chanukah magic help Lisa and Gabe realise that sparkling dates and dreamy kisses can lead to more? Perhaps even a lifetime of happiness?

Christmas in New York

A light-hearted and emotional novel about family, friendship and coming to terms with your past.

Andrew started falling in love with Charlotte, his beautiful, strictly hands-off client, from the moment he first saw her. Unfortunately, she doesn’t feel the same way about him. Doesn’t she?

Having made an unforgivable mistake to her parents, Charlotte has one single objective, ‘Get home for Christmas. Make amends.’ A mantra she constantly finds herself chanting when her attraction to sex-on-a-stick Andrew becomes too overpowering to try and avoid any longer.

Charlotte’s boss has been piling on the workload, making to harder and harder to get back home to Melbourne, not to mention all the extra meetings slash dates with Andrew she’s had to make to get the job done.

Charlotte finds Andrew incredibly attractive, fierce, smart, passionate and… totally off-limits. But between completely stupid deadlines and extra meetings, passion simmers. With redemption at stake, Charlotte must choose between her parents or once-in-a-lifetime love.

“Do I want you to kiss me? Let me think.” She cocked her eyebrow. “I’m in New York, it’s a festive time, and I’m at the top of Empire State Building with a cute guy–”

“Cute?” He stepped back on unsteady feet, pretending to be offended.

She gave his arm a playful punch. “What do you want to be? Macho? Dapper? Show-stealing Suave? Stylish?”

His narrowed eyes took in her cheeky grin. “Did you just swallow a thesaurus?”

Her lips twitched with amusement before a serious look crossed her face. “The old Lisa, as in the one from a couple of months ago, would’ve been shocked and politely declined the offer of a kiss. However, I’m away, no one knows me here so if the kiss is still on offer, I’d love to take you up on it. I’ll chalk it up as romantic experience in New York.”

“I’m not sure whether to be offended or flattered.” His heart raced in anticipation of closing the gap between them and seeing if the skin along her jaw was as soft s it looked.

She puckered her lips together. “Well, I could’ve said no.”

“But you didn’t,” he said in a low voice.

The sleeves pulled at his biceps, accentuating the ridges of defined muscle beneath the flimsy material. She was a sucker for a well-fitting shirt and he just looked so good in them. A little voice piped up in the back of her brain that he’d probably look a whole lot better without anything on at all, but she shoved it back down as forcefully as she could. “Huh?”

His mouth stretched into a perfect smile, “I said, it might take some time to look through them all. I’m starving. I thought I could make us something to eat while we go through the images. What do you think?”

“Ah…” The line, Charlotte. Remember the line.

“I’m cooking.”

“You cook?” she asked.

His smile was catching and she felt herself smiling in response. “The basics only. Soufflé. Baked Alaska. Galantine. That type of thing.”

“Uh-ha. And I’m Jamie Oliver’s right hand gal,” Charlotte laughed, tension running from her shoulders.

“That’s sou chef, for people in the know,” Andrew said. He crossed his arms and leaned his hip against the sleek black marble kitchen bench.

“Well, Chef Robinson what are we having for dinner?”

“I make a mean omelette. Are you game?” Andrew said.

INTERESTING SEAL FACT

Research the terminology. There’s nothing worse than someone saying they visited the “can” when the Navy calls it “the head” – unless you are being ironic, of course.

excerpt

As he turned the corner, he smacked right into her as if he had conjured her, sending her heading for the floor. He wasn’t a small guy. At six feet and 160 pounds, he was all muscle and could have been a decent wide receiver for any NFL team, even in his early forties. He ran every day, worked out, and had serious stamina for whatever task was at hand.

His hand caught hers, and with one tug he had her safely in his arms. He cradled her against him. He murmured in her ear, “Sorry about that.” His first instinct was to be polite and distant, but this contact brought a wave of protectiveness with it that made him even more uncomfortable. He needed to keep his perspective. “I always seem to be apologizing to you.”

“Must be something about me,” she murmured against his chest. Her body changed from pliant to stiff almost instantly. They were locked together for several seconds.

“Guess so.”

Realizing that she had to be at least five feet ten inches was kind of nice. It meant he wouldn’t have to bend down when he kissed her. Shit, there went his libido. He was attracted to her. Now he was going to have to be careful he didn’t compromise the mission.

Bennett righted her, and his hands dropped away from her gorgeous form. “Dr. Warren…”

Kimberly looked up at him. Her hands settled on her hips. Frowning, she said, “Captain, it was me. I wasn’t watching where I was going. I needed to consult with you anyway.”

“You were…looking for me…”

“I…I have files for you.” The way she was groping for words meant he definitely had an effect on her. At least they were both in the same boat. Besides, his gut told him that she was an ally, wanting to get the shuttle off the ground and to find out who had killed the SEALs.

She pushed several files into his hands. “If you’ll excuse me.” She stepped around him, making a wide arc. Before she rounded the next corner, she stole a glance at him and blushed.

He smiled at her. Damn, he couldn’t remember the last time he’d been so drawn to a woman. The scent of lavender still filled his senses, and a hint of something else. Not rosewater. What was it, jasmine? Mmm, intoxicating.
