Excerpt One:
She was one cool customer.
Dr. Carla Abdroghetti sat across the room, surrounded by four homicide detectives, in a chair specifically designed to guarantee that suspects would confess to anything just to get the hell out of it.
Not her.
She was relaxed, loose and her expression was placid. She had not asked for attorney. She didn’t even look annoyed. Most of the suspects in this room fluctuated between scared and anxious to angry and belligerant. Some of them even threw up in the nearby trashcan because their nerves got the better of them.
Not her.
Carla . . . Dr. Androghetti looked . . . gorgeous. Sexy. Tempting. Delicious. I couldn’t quite name the thing about her that made my heart race and my blood warm under my skin. It wasn’t the dark red dress that hugged her curves or the determined shape of her full mouth. It wasn’t the way she casually looked at her watch before slicing my boss with a look that would have most men cowering behind something thick and sturdy.
No, it was something about her. Something that didn’t come from clothes or an Ivy-League education or a particular background. You were either born with her type of calm, unshakeable charisma or you would never have it. And fuck me, she had it.
And, fuck me, I would not let it cloud my judgment and keep me from finding out if she’d murdered a U.S. Senator. Because right now she was the number one suspect on a short list of one.
Excerpt Two: NSFW
He cursed and spun me around, not letting go of his hold on my wrists. In this position, we were pressed together from chest to thigh and neither one of us struggled to put any distance between us. I looked up at him, my heels closing the gap between us but he was still taller, a towering bulk of muscle and man taking up all the available space.
“So, Senator Marsden wanted to fuck you? He wanted you all to himself?” He examined my face, the wicked grin tugging at his mouth incongruous with the unleashed anger that made his muscles tremor. “I don’t blame him.” He leaned in even closer and this time his words were spoken against my lips, each syllable laced with the sharp tang of forbidden lust. “I knew you were lying to me and I still wanted you.”
“And you don’t want me anymore?’ The words were sliding over my tongue before my brain could censor. Everything in them and the way they slid off my tongue with honeyed seduction was calculated to make something happen here that I didn’t know if either of us ready for.
“I shouldn’t.”
I recalled what he’d said the first time we’d met “Because I’m a dangerous woman.”
“Fuck yeah, you are,” Aiden leaned down closer, his lips brushing over mine before he pulled back slightly. “I’m going to do something really stupid here. Speak now if you don’t want my hands all over you.”
I stared at him, taking a moment to weigh my options but there was really only one choice. I tugged at the cuffs. “Leave these on.”
“Goddam,” he huffed out on the last breath before his mouth covered mine.

Gracen Lowell is on the hunt for a man—but not just any man. He has to be ‘the one’. Her only problem is that no one she’s dated has ever measured up to the charming qualities of her best friend.
Slade Owens knows no matter how much he loves Gracen, he’ll never be what she’s looking for. And he dang sure isn’t going to stick around to watch her fall in love with someone else. Slade leaving the Owens’ family farm for an out-of- state job should put enough distance between the two to allow him to move on with his life and Gracen to search for her happily-ever- after.
Gracen knows asking him to stay isn’t fair. Slade thinks leaving her behind is the only thing to do.
Inexplicably drawn together, the best friends must decide if they have what it takes to own up to their feelings… before it’s too late.
Excerpt #1
Gracen had no idea how beautiful she was. Dressed the way she was, it was almost impossible to look away. On a normal day, she was the kind of beautiful that robbed my ability to think straight. Every single woman I dated, I chose specifically to be as different from Gracen as I could, hoping that with enough practice, I could make myself look at her and not want her with every fiber of my being.
The draw to her had gotten to be so much that I knew if I didn’t do something, and soon, I’d ruin everything with her. Somewhere, there was a lucky bastard who’d eventually steal her right out from under my nose, and there wouldn’t be a damn thing I could do about it. I already hated him—whoever he was.
Excerpt #2
“You coming?” he called to me from the porch. Both our bags were slung over one shoulder and Lucy, tail thumping against the worn boards, was sitting by his feet.
Closing my eyes, I pretended I was home and he was mine. He’d welcome me in at the front door with a kiss hot enough to sear my lips and melt me to the floor. We’d make it as far as the rustic living room before shedding clothes behind us in a trail to the bedroom.
“It’s like coming home, every time we come here,” he said.
My steps faltered at his words. “It’s special… this place. You can feel it.” My fingers dipped and swayed against the slight breeze that flitted through the trees.
There was something extraordinary about it, but nothing I could physically point out. It was more like a feeling. A welcoming. Like it was a haven that spoke to something deep inside me.
Lucy poked her nose past Slade, panting with a huge doggy grin. He didn’t look down at her.
“Are you planning to stay out there the whole time?” he asked. There was something different in the way he gazed at me. I couldn’t quite put my finger on, but it almost felt like something more.
“Can’t really go inside when you’re standing in the doorway.” I smirked at him, trying not to show my confusion.
“Tell me something, Gracen. And be honest,” he said, unmoving.
Nervous energy shot through me, every single point of awareness standing on end. Now there was a look in his eyes I thought I’d glimpsed a few times before, but it had always been gone as quick as it came. I’d always brushed it off as my imagination, conjured up because I wanted it so bad. But this time, there was no mistaking it. It held promises unspoken. Secrets long buried.
I could feel the pulse at my neck hammering as if my heart had dislodged itself and was working its way up and out. My arms tingled as if my skin were made of wildly flapping butterfly wings, and my stomach twisted around a giant rock of something molten that emptied itself down into my legs. The two halves of my body were at war with one another—one wanted to fly away, the other to sink into the ground.

Bio:
She’s ready to slow life down. . .
He’s been living his life for his daughter . . .
Jared Adamson is preparing for an empty nest at his Tennessee farm as his 21-year- old daughter prepares for her future and plans her launch into adulthood. A widower of four years, he’s now facing a quiet life of solitude.
A chance encounter brings them together when Kinsley finds herself needing Jared’s help. As the detour turns into an extended vacation, they discover that life has much more to offer than they knew. But is it wise to start planting roots so soon?
They turned the horses back toward the barn. The storm was moving faster than expected. They hadn’t made it halfway home when raindrops began to tap their heads. By the time they were at the barn’s entrance, the rain was coming down in sheets. Jared’s hat had deflected most of the rain from his head, but wet clothes clung to both of their bodies.
She hugged her shoulders and felt a strong sense of calm. Unlike most people, she preferred gray, rainy days to sunny ones. The rain put her into a meditative mind and made her feel more in touch with the world. It was cleansing and peaceful. Out of the rain now with the wind blowing into the barn, a chill caused a shiver to ripple down her, and she hugged her arms closer.
Suddenly a warmth radiated into her back and covered her bare arms. She leaned backward into Jared’s chest as he rubbed the cold bare skin of her upper arms. His hands moved down the sides of her arms and traced to her hands. Crossed over each other in front of her, Kinsley’s hands laced themselves into his and she felt his breath on her neck, hot and urgent. He softly touched his lips to her neck and along her collarbone, then to her ear. She turned her face toward him and their lips met, softly at first. When she tentatively pushed her tongue past her lips to taste the rain on his, he groaned against her and pulled her closer, moving his hands to her stomach, where his thumbs brushed upwards to feather along the bottoms of her breasts.
He stood quickly and grabbed his jeans, pulling them on while looking out the window. Then he turned back and, with an eerily calm tone, said, “Call 911.”
She looked at the handsome man and decided she had a good reason to put off that last event now.
Maybe Ethel had done her a favor after all. She felt the warmth she had come to accept would be a constant feeling while she was near this man. It pleased her that he was playing along with her.
Harmony McMahon, Mensa member and computer genius needs an escort for her ten-year high school reunion. A nerd wallflower in high school, she wants to flaunt her adult financial and professional success. Her problem? She’s still a nerd wallflower.
Bio:
Cynthia VanRooy, a three-time finalist for the San Diego Book Awards, a finalist for the Independent eBook Awards for Romance, and a finalist for the PASIC Book of Your Heart Award, came by her love of books early. She grew up the daughter of a career army officer and moved often. By the time she graduated from high school she had attended eleven different schools! It was difficult making new friends every other year or so, and she spent a lot of time happily curled up alone with a book. She would no sooner finally have friends, than it was time to move again. All she needed to relieve the loneliness was a library where she could always find her favorite authors.
She was living in Hawaii when she met her husband, a handsome young naval officer who swept her off her feet in the best romance-novel tradition. In fact, their first date was New Year’s Eve on Waikiki Beach. Life was setting her up to write romance novels, She just didn’t know it yet. And she was still moving every two years. Hawaii, Scotland, and Japan are just a few of the places she has called home.
She loves writing romance. In her books, she likes to explore the difference between what the characters think they want and what they ultimately discover they really want, a personal journey to which most people can relate. She finds the innate optimism and happy endings in the genre uplifting. Cynthia believes there is enough misery and despair in the world without putting it on the page. Romance is her small effort to bring a higher love vibration to the planet. It’s called light reading for a reason!
“I know when I pick up a Cynthia VanRooy romance, I’m getting a book with characters I really care about and a compelling story.”−Victoria Johnson, author of All I Need to Know in Life, I Learned from Romance Novels
