“I never wanted this, but I want you.”

An attack one night in the mountains left Amber changed forever, or at least changed every full moon. Confused and afraid, she turns to the Internet for a cure. Instead she discovers a small town with a doctor whose research could give her back her life. So she bought a cottage, made a plan, and moved.

Jasper grew up knowing the first time a wolf sets eyes on his mate, his life is changed forever. While the bond between them could be an amazing connection, it would also leave him vulnerable to loss and unimaginable pain. He’d seen it happen and vowed to never experience it first hand.

Two people. Two wolves. One chance to heal their souls.

“The longer I’m around you, the better I get to know you, the more similarities I see between us. The more our wolves desires make sense.” Jasper shook his head. “They choose. They know. We’re both finding it hard to accept.”
Her face fell. “I understand.” She started to turn and leave the room, but he grabbed her bicep and stopped her.
“Let me finish.” There was an edge to his voice. This man was used to getting his way. Amber nodded sadly and he continued. “See, I never wanted to be mated.” She frowned. “After my mother died in an accident, my father wasted away. He couldn’t handle life without her.” He swallowed hard and Amber ached inside. “I saw him as weak. I never wanted to be vulnerable like that.”
Jasper jerked his head toward the couch. “Can we please go sit? This…is harder than I thought.” His golden brown eyes darkened.
“Of course.” Amber removed his hand from her arm and held his hand instead, leading the way to the loveseat. She motioned for him to sit in the corner, then she curled up against him. “Better?”

Nodding sadly, Jasper admitted, “Yes, and worse.” He caressed the side of her face. “I can see why he died now. The bond is stronger between some pairs than others. Already, I can tell if anything ever happened to you, I’d be devastated.” He leaned his head back on the couch. “I never wanted this, but I do want you.”

Walker Callaghan doesn’t know what happened to her. One minute she was living her teenage life in suburban Chicago…and the next minute, she was in a strange place and in a brand new school with absolutely no homework, no rules, and no consequences.

Walker Callaghan, 17, is dead.

She doesn’t go to heaven or hell. She lands at The Academy, a middle realm where teenagers have one thing in common: They were the morning announcement at their high schools because they died young.

These high school kids are now caught in a strange “in-between” zone where life hasn’t changed very much. In fact, this special teen limbo looks a lot like life in a quaint Michigan town complete with jocks, popular girls and cliques. “There are even cheerleaders in death,” Walker observes. It’s not a coincidence that the music teacher is a guy named Kurt who “used to have this band.” The drama teacher, Heath, is crush worthy because back in his life, he starred in some superhero movie.

Principal King explains the rules — there are none. Why? You can’t die twice.

There is no homework.
No tests.
No SATS.
You’re just there to learn because the human brain isn’t fully formed until you’re 24.

By the way, you can’t get hurt physically, so race your Harley off that hillside. But falling in love is the most dangerous thing you can do …because no one knows how long you’ll stay in this realm or what’s next.

“Losing someone you love would be like dying twice,” Walker says.

* * * * * *
Walker Callaghan has just arrived at the Academy after a tragic car accident. “Is this heaven or is this high school?” she asks.

She finds out her new life is a bit of both as she falls in love with tat-covered, bad boy Daniel Reid who is about to break the only sacred rule of this place. He’s looking for a portal to return back to the living realm.

He needs just one hour to retrieve his younger brother who strangely never arrived at The Academy. Bobby is an Earth Bound Spirit, stuck at a plane crash site that took both of their lives as their rich father piloted his private jet nose-first into a cornfield on Christmas Eve.

Walker loves Daniel and risks it all to go with him.

Have they learned enough to outsmart dangerous forces while transporting a young child with them? Can their love survive the fragmented evil parts of themselves that are now hunting them down as they try to find a way back to the middle?

At the Academy, you learn the lessons of an after-lifetime.

We were falling and tumbling, together and entwined—and then alone, but not lonely. I wasn’t sure where we would land, but I didn’t care because I was flying in absolute silence now. My arms flew up and my legs stayed down in an arrow-straight pose as the cold water rushed over every molecule that was me. At one point, I even did a cartwheel of sorts and started flying upside down as my brain shut off and in its place was a dizzy jolt of wonder and awe.

What goes up must come down. Daniel landed hard into the freezing river waiting below. The waterfall spit me out just a little bit in front of him and I was amazed that I didn’t just shatter into millions broken pieces like a crystal goblet dropped off a mountain peak. At first, it seemed as if I was submerged all the way to the river’s floor as my hands touched the bottom of something, but quickly, I popped up and swam to the side, no worse for wear. The river was calm, but deadly cold. A light misty fog lingered over the water’s surface and through the white shadows I saw Daniel raising both fists in the air and then yowling with pure pleasure.

Swimming up to him wasn’t hard because he grabbed my arm and hoisted me toward him until my legs were locked tightly around his waist and my arms wrapped firmly around his neck. He devoured me with a kiss that was as forceful and powerful as the rush of the water that brought us here.

He tasted like fresh love and pure determination. When my fingers raced through his hair, I felt unleashed.

It was probably twenty degrees outside and I was sweating.

Eventually, we rose from the water, clomped out of the river, and sat down on a big old rock in the middle of a desolate cove of tall evergreen trees. Several inches of snow had fallen over the dead winter grass and it seemed so inviting. I’m not sure how he knew, but Daniel could actually rub sticks together until we had a small fire crackling to the side of us. When sitting became uncomfortable, we decided to lie down, face-to-face, on the snowy surface. Nature was our hotel and in our “room” the snow was like a warm, cushioned blanket.

“I’m living with a Boy Scout,” I announced.

“I was a Boy Scout,” he said. “Troop Seventy-Six. Lake Forest division.”

“Girl Scout,” I replied. “I sell a mean box of Thin Mints.”

“I don’t see you as the selling cookies type. Tell me something else I don’t know about you. Who were you, Callaghan when you were alive? I want to know everything.”

“What do you mean?” I asked, jittery nerves returning.

“I mean, food you would never touch.”

“Brussels sprouts. Green onions.”

“What were you on your last Halloween?” I asked, wanting to cram in every little fact.

“A cheerleader,” he said in a dejected voice. “The kids made me do it—blonde wig and a bra.” He cupped some nonexistent breasts on himself. “I stuffed them with oranges.”

“Worst parental offense?” he asked.

“Biked to Madison’s at three a.m. in the winter because she had just broken up with her boyfriend. Technically speaking, it wasn’t safe. But it was necessary. Also, in seventh grade I roller-skated through the kitchen holding a glass of milk. My mom walked in, startled me, and the glass flew out of my hands. The milk hit the ceiling and I was grounded for a week,” I told him. “It was raining milk all over that ugly blue tile.”

His grin was ear to ear. Then he spoke.

“Okay, so I took the old man’s Ferrari and accidentally drove into a farmer’s field for a little bit of racing around between the cornstalks. What I didn’t know is the farmer actually planted soybeans. And he had just irrigated the entire thing and the car sunk like it was in quicksand. The farmer came out with a shotgun and told me he was going to hold me there or shoot me or both. He told me to call Edward. But of course, he was out of town. So he finally let me go. Edward has so many cars that he didn’t even notice for months until he finally said, ‘Where is my blue Ferrari?’ I just shrugged. I think that car is still in the soybean field or there is a farmer in Illinois with a really cool ride.”

“In my entire life, I’ve never drank Doctor Pepper,” I blurted. “It’s not that I’m feeling denied, but still. No growing all the way up. No college. No marriage. No kids. No growing old. No Doctor Pepper. It doesn’t seem fair now does it? But then why do we think it’s all supposed to be so fair? Who promised us fair?”

He stroked my cheek tenderly.

“I don’t know,” he said in a somber voice.

A minute or two passed. Then he spoke again.

“Maybe we were lucky to get what we got. When my mom died, the best thing someone said to me was, ‘At least you had her for fifteen years, which is more than some people have with their mother.’ At least we were there for seventeen years. That’s more than some people get.”

I tried to catch stray snowflakes in my open palm.

Holding my face in his warm hands, he asked in a sweet voice, “First kiss?”

“A boy named Obie. Second grade. He was a dork and I kissed him. It was a dare from another girl at YMCA camp. Obie also had spaghetti breath.”

“Last kiss?” he asked, pressing his lips to mine.

“Some guy who took me swimming . . .” I murmured, but he didn’t let me continue.

“Mmmm, let’s do that again,” he said.

Leaning down, he kissed me sweetly and urgently and when my breath mixed with his and the cold night air caressed my skin, all the questions stopped.

He brought it back to the beginning.

“It’s been extremely tough to be your Boy Scout, night after night.”

“After night,” I added, allowing my thumb and forefinger to explore those striking cheekbones until I wandered down to the two-day stubble that had grown across his cheeks.

The world was beautiful here. It was a winter-white spectacle with soft snow all around us. The air was so sweet and calm. “People are so afraid of dying,” I said, turning my head to stare up at the black night sky. I wondered if my view was home. Or maybe home was below us. My perspective was slightly askew now.

“It’s not so bad being here,” he said, turning my face back to his, and then wrapping his arms around me. Unlike the other nights, Daniel wasn’t turning away in the other direction. When we kissed again it was slow, and building to something deeper. I felt light-headed and knew that soon there would be no turning back. And I didn’t want to turn in any direction but his.

This was life. After death.

The kissing was our oxygen. It was rebellion and redemption.

who has it all reunites with a woman who takes it all off.

Living in Sin City, Finn McCormick is no stranger to one-night stands, but the last

Meet The Author…

A.D. Ellis spends the majority of her days loving and wrangling two school-aged children and a husband before heading to the inner city of Indiana to teach a challenging group of alternative education students in grades third through sixth. Most days she hits the gym after school in hopes of running and lifting away the stress and headaches of the day before picking up her children and squeezing a whole day’s worth of loving and living into the too-short hours before bed. It’s no wonder Ms. Ellis lives for the slower, easier days she gets to enjoy on breaks from school.
Growing up in a small farming town in southern Indiana, A.D. is grateful to her mother for passing along the love of reading. With her nose constantly stuck in a book, Ms. Ellis became accustomed to friends and acquaintances snickering and shaking their heads at her love of reading.
A.D. never dreamed of being anything but a teacher, although there are certain times of the year when she laments her career choice. Ms. Ellis had a story idea floating in her head for about a year. After persistent prodding from a friend, A.D. put pen to paper and began writing her first story in October 2013. From that moment on, she was hooked. Taking the people and stories from her head and sharing them with readers is a scary, exhausting, rewarding, and fulfilling experience which A.D. plans to continue until there are no more stories banging around in her mind.

Blurb:

The invasion has begun, and he’s the only one who can stop them.

Zephyr Cree has made it his mission to stop the aliens that have been terrorizing the galaxy. He takes his warship to the planet Earth to rescue what he can of the human race. But when he meets a human, Addison Montgomery, he is inspired by her tenacity, and maybe just a little bit smitten with the gorgeous human. The last thing he needs is a distraction, but fate has other things in mind for him.

Stranded in a remote location during an alien invasion was the last thing Addison Montgomery expected when she ventured out on a fieldtrip with a bus full of second graders. Daughter of one of the top generals in the country everyone is turning to her for answers. It’s a role she didn’t ask for and doesn’t want, but she knows she has to protect everyone she can. When the dangerous aliens attack, Addison prepares to fight them, but at the last minute a fiery phoenix swoops in to save the day — literally. There’s not just one alien species on the planet but two. Now she just has to convince the hot phoenix shifter, Zephyr, to help her save the world, while keeping her libido in check around him, no big deal, right?

Read Excerpt One…

Zephyr stiffened as Addison shifted, moving so her head was on his shoulder. The couch was small and he half expected her to sit up and move away from him to finish watching the movie, but she didn’t. He peered down at her. Her eyes were shut and her breathing steady. It appeared she was sleeping and he’d wager she had no clue about her precarious situation against him.
He didn’t mind her weight or closeness. It was nice. She smelled like honey and the berries they’d shared earlier. It was an intoxicating smell and he couldn’t help but study her features more closely now that she wouldn’t be aware of his staring.
Physically, she looked similar to the women of his planet, but there was something different about her. She was resilient, yet passionate and she knew exactly what she wanted. Unlike many of the people on his planet, he suspected she didn’t follow orders unless she wanted to. He was one of the few people that challenged the government on Delphi, asking them to do more about the Imanji threat. That was probably part of the reason they allowed him to have his ship—to shut him up. Deep down he suspected they knew he was right.
The Imanji were his people’s problem. Just because they couldn’t penetrate Delphi’s shields, didn’t mean they wouldn’t return one day and attempt to destroy the planet. The second time around the Imanji might succeed.
Addison jumped as one of the characters in the movie screamed. She shot up so fast her forehead collided with his. A curse escaped her lips and she smacked a hand over her eyes, rubbing her palm over her skin as she blinked.
“Are you okay?” he asked as he watched her.
“Yeah. I’m so sorry. I didn’t even realize I fell asleep,” she said as she dropped her hand to her lap. “Are you okay?”
“I’m fine.” The bump hadn’t fazed him at all.
Addison shifted to the opposite end of the couch, pulling her feet up on her cushion and leaning against the armrest. “I’m so sorry. I didn’t mean to invade your space.”
“It’s okay. No apology is needed.” Part of him wondered if it’d be okay to tell her he enjoyed it. He had no idea how she would respond to that.
“So, what did I miss?” Addison said turning her focus to the TV.
“Not much.” He opened his mouth to tell her about the movie, but stopped when she moved again and sat up straighter.
“Jeesh, the movie barely started and I already fell asleep? I must be more tired than I realized,” she said as she combed a hand through her hair. “Maybe I should head off to bed. We have a big day tomorrow.”
He stood and grabbed the remote. His eyes scanned over the symbols, but he had no idea how to work it. He turned to her and offered a smile. “How do you turn it off?”
She waved her hand at him as she got close enough for their shoulders to brush against each other. “You just hit this button and it will turn everything off.” She touched a button that had a circle on it. “But don’t turn it off on my account. I’ve seen Terminator before. You might enjoy it.”
It seemed like an all right movie, but he didn’t feel like watching it without her. “No. I should turn in, too.”
“Oh, okay, then,” she said, leaning in close again to turn off the TV.
Her scent hit him again and he breathed it in. His phoenix rumbled beneath the surface, begging him to reach out and touch her. His bird craved Addison, and it hadn’t needed a woman in a long time. He didn’t fraternize with the women on his ship. It was too complicated and none of them caught his interest, not like Addison had.
“There,” she said as she turned to him. Her breath caught in her throat as she too must have noticed how close their mouths were. Her tongue darted out to lick her lips. “I should probably go to bed,” she swallowed not letting her gaze leave his.
“Addison?” he asked as he reached out to touch her cheek. Her skin was soft beneath his fingers, which he trailed over her jaw, caressing his thumb over her lips.
“Yeah,” she said her voice so quiet he barely heard it.
He moved his thumb and pressed his lips against hers. She gasped into his mouth, but her hands went to his shoulders as her tongue swooped out to trail over his teeth.14522581_1183920838320918_2036180305_o

Read Excerpt Two…

Addison opened her mouth, but her voice got caught in her throat as footsteps thundered up the wooden steps and across the front porch.
Nausea rolled in her belly and she shivered. Whipping her head toward the door, she held her breath. Her ears strained to hear if the children were fleeing, but the only sound greeting her was the staccato of her roaring pulse.
As the doorknob silently twisted, she lifted her arm up, ready to jab the blade into whomever came in. She glanced at Marcus, wordlessly agreeing to do whatever was necessary to keep the others safe.
The wooden deck outside creaked and Addison’s breath caught in her throat as the door flew open and slammed against the opposite wall. She whirled around, shrieking as her blade sunk into yellowish skin. The alien’s red eyes widened as it squawked. Its arm reached up, grasping at her chest and propelling her backward. She tried to hold onto the knife embedded in the alien for balance, but she couldn’t. Her feet flew out from under her as she catapulted across the room, hitting a glass case. Crashing through it, she sent glass raining down around her as she met the unforgiving floor, grunting as the hardwood bit into her.
Ignoring the pain slicing through her extremities, she grasped a jagged piece of glass and scrambled to her feet. Her vision blurred and she blinked rapidly to get her eyes to focus. I have to fight.
“S-s-s-stop!” A voice hissed.
Addison gasped as the voice echoed in her mind. Her limbs froze, refusing to budge. She whimpered and tried to force her foot to move; it shook from exertion, but lifted off the floor.
“Stop.” The voice insisted again.
Addison gripped her head with her free hand as the voice bounced around in her mind. Don’t listen to them! She squeezed the long shard of glass hard enough for it to cut into her skin. Fight, Addison!
A shiver raced up her spine as she took another step forward. Her leaden body was fighting her every move, almost as if the aliens were controlling her somehow. That is not possible, is it?
Her eyes searched for Marcus, finding her co-worker kneeling before two of the creatures with his fingers laced behind his head.
“I love the defiant ones,” the voice said, as an alien cocked its head at her while approaching.
She wanted to continue to move, but her body seemed to be rooted to the floor. Addison opened her mouth to cry out, but no sound came.
She looked at the alien in front of her more closely. It was slender and taller than she expected and stood at least a foot over her. Its blood-red eyes bore into her as its voice spoke within her mind again.
“Tell me, how many of you are there?” the alien asked.
His voice raced through her mind and her mouth opened, as if ready to tell him everything he asked. Addison tried clamping her mouth shut and gritted her teeth. I’m not telling him anything.
“Answer me!”
Coercion swept over her, but she maintained her silence. The longer she fought, the greater of a chance the kids and the others had to get away. Every second counted.
The alien reached out and touched her cheek, trailing his long, scaly finger down her face. Addison screamed as she lifted her arm and tried to jab the glass into the alien’s chest. He caught her wrist, wrenching it to the side, causing the glass to fall to the floor. She tried to tug her hand free of his grasp, but he held tight.
“It’s been a long time since I found someone so defiant,” he told her as he grasped her chin. “I shall enjoy breaking you.” He dug his fingers into her chin, causing her to close her eyes. Her jaw ached as he squeezed tighter and she tried to wrench free. “Tell me how many of you are there?”
She gathered spittle in her mouth and spat it at the alien. He flinched as it trickled down his face.
Gazing up at him defiantly, she noticed a lime green goo oozing from his chest. Is that blood? Yes, yes it is. This is the one I stabbed. Unfortunately, it didn’t appear to be fazing him at all. If a blade to the chest didn’t hurt them, what would?
Faster than she could see, his hand holding her chin whipped up and struck her. She toppled to the floor as pain sliced through her skull. Sticky warmth coated her cheek and her vision darkened. No. No. No. Don’t you dare black out!
“Stop! Please. I’ll tell you what you need to know. Just leave her alone, please!” Marcus pleaded, his voice sounding miles away even though she was sure he was still in the room with her.
“No,” she said, forcing her gaze to focus. She wobbled as she tried to sit up. The ground around her seemed to be vibrating. Everything was spinning. How hard had he hit her? She needed to focus and fast.
The alien turned, trudging away from her.
“Marcus, no,” she said her voice coming out weaker than she’d intended. Her arms trembled as she tried to get to her hands and knees to crawl across the floor toward him.
Marcus met her apprehensive eyes with his and shook his head at her. “I’m sorry, Addison. I can’t let them hurt you.”
“No…you…don’t understand,” she said, fighting for a breath and to stay conscious. Yet the more she moved, the worse her head hurt and the more her vision waned.
“Tell me. How many of you are there?” the alien asked Marcus.
“Twelve adults and sixty-two children,” his monotone voice echoed throughout the room.
“Very good.” The alien nodded at his men.
All the other aliens darted out the door while the lead creature glanced back at her, a wide smile on his face, his black teeth projecting his complacency. As he turned back to Marcus, he raised his hand and placed it on Marcus’ brow. Addison scrambled across the floor to help, but he seemed to be miles away even though she was sure it was just a few feet.
Marcus howled as a white light encompassed him. As the light permeated his body, it began to flake away, like leaves blowing in the wind.
“No! Stop!” she cried out. Her heart pounded as she pushed herself to stand. It was too late though; Marcus’ body was nothing more than a pile of white ash on the floor. She covered her mouth as tears welled in her eyes. The alien turned back to her, the wide smile still plastered on his face. He took a step toward her knowing his ensuing move.
Oh my God. I’m next.

Blurb:

Technical genius and demi-goddess—a.k.a Divinity—Khloe Bradenton relies on no one for help, and she definitely doesn’t need comfort from anyone but her twin. After her parents were killed by the demons over two years ago, she graciously accepts her role in the war between the demons and witches. But when a creature far more dangerous than the ones responsible for killing her parents claims he is her guardian and steps in with help she never asked for, she is torn between her desire for the dark predator and memories of the painful loss she endured at the hands of her enemies and from those who claimed to love her in the past.

One of the last Death Demons still in existence, Jagger has pledged his life to the Goddess of Witchcraft, Hecate. Charged with guardianship of the Divinities—one particular spitfire, in particular—he was told never to approach them, but simply to aid from a distance. But when Khloe sacrifices herself to save her twin and best friend and thus becomes the demons’ prey, Jagger has no choice but to reveal himself to her. However, he is taken by surprise when the desire to claim her as his own emerges, and his need for her burns hotter than her Fire. But in the midst of the war, their feelings for each other could prove more dangerous than the demons out to destroy them.

Read A Few Teasers…

He held out his hand, palm up. “You can trust me, Khloe.”

She looked into his chocolate-brown eyes for several moments. Tiny rivers of red flowed and twisted around the pupils. Could she trust a demon who looked so damn good?

Hell, no.

========

“Are you always so mistrusting?” he said, lifting a brow.

“When my escort is a demon, yes.”

=========

She got as far as the kitchen door before her back was pressed against the wall, held in place by Jagger. The rivers of red swirling in his chocolate eyes brightened and glowed. His erection pressed against her stomach, telling her he was far from angry. She parted her lips to protest the sudden invasion of her personal space, but the words died on her tongue as his mouth covered hers. She moaned, met his demanding assault, and moved her hips against him. His spicy earth scent filled her head, making her dizzy with need. Her blood boiled, and her heart danced, skipping beats. Her earlier anger dissolved into waves of desire and lust. The Fire inside her stirred and encouraged her to take what he was offering.

He broke the kiss to say, “I was sent to protect you. You will do as I say.” Then he vanished.

========

“You like playing with fire?”

“Yes. It is my favorite element.” She extracted her arm from his grip and stepped inside the elevator.

Book #1 in a brand new mature YA / NA paranormal romance series. Suitable for readers 16+

Read An Excerpt…

“You said something before, when we first met,” I said.
“What?”
“You said you’d been the new guy once. What did you mean?”
“I moved to Decker on my thirteenth birthday. New town, new school, new friends.” He teaser-1shrugged as if it wasn’t a big deal.
“Oh, come on.” I nudged him. “Star hockey player, you couldn’t have struggled to fit in that much.”
Kai ran a hand through is hair. “I was in a bad place back then.”
Something about the bitterness in Kai’s voice silenced my reply. Instead, I said, “What’s a girl got to do to get a drink around here?”
Kai laughed, a deep rumble vibrating from his chest. “This way, milady.” He stood and offered his hand.
We collected orders from the rest of the group and made our way to the kitchen.
“What’ll it be?” he asked from the refrigerator.
“Soda is fine.”
“Why do I get the feeling you don’t live life in the fast lane?” His head disappeared behind the door.
“Are you calling me boring?”
He reappeared. “I like it. I can’t explain it, Daiya, but I feel like I’ve known you longer than a couple of weeks. Is that crazy?”
teaser-2“I—”
Kai closed the door and placed down a couple of cans of soda. His eyes burned through me as he stalked forward, and I stepped back, my back hitting the counter that ran the length of the room.
“Kai, I …” My eyes shuttered, the flames building. I clutched the amethyst teardrop through my hoodie, and Kai’s eyes dropped to my chest. When they met mine again, they were swirling with lust.
“Daiya.”
I swallowed hard, my mouth dry.
“What is happening between us?”
My heart thumped against my chest so hard I felt a little lightheaded, but still, Kai’s eyes didn’t let up, and I was sure I would combust from the charged look he was giving me.
He inched closer and reached out for my hair. Pinching a strand behind his fingers, Kai smiled. “All I can think about right now is kissing you.” His eyes dropped to my mouth. “I teaser-3remember the way you taste.”
“I …” My lips parted. I wanted this. I wanted to experience Kai’s mouth on mine for real. Not like it had been in the bar or how it was in my dreams. But something held me back, and I pressed my hands against his chest, inhaling a strained breath. “We should get back out there.” I released a sigh, hoping he could see that I wanted this, but I just wasn’t ready to cross that line.
Not until I knew what it meant.
Kai’s head dropped to mine, and he let out a long breath of his own.
Why had I pulled away? This was what I wanted, wasn’t it? But what if the prophecy was wrong? What if what Kai was experiencing was just a reaction to me? To my awakening?
“Hey.” His soft voice brought me back to the room. “Come on.”
I nodded and forced my lips into a smile. But the thoughts wouldn’t leave. There were too many questions still. Too many outcomes. And one stood out above all the others: even if what Kai and I felt was real, there would come a day when he discovered who I was.
What I was.
And then what?
