In the year 2081 our planet survived global warming of an apocalyptic scale. A military brat born and raised at Ft. Benning Georgia; Smith is an avid reader, reviewer and writer. She now calls Texas home from her small town on the outskirts of the DFW Metroplex. Sandi Bischoff lives in the historic town of Cornwall, NY with her husband, son and a menagerie of Dragons all of whom have their own distinct personalities. She is a Pharmacist by profession but finally found her true calling in a simple twist of fate. A friend approached her to write for a character in a forum on a popular networking website and over the next five years her passion had found its niche. She then went on to compose a few poems and short stories which she would post on her homepage at the same networking site. Recently one of those poems was chosen to be published in a compilation called Collected Whispers.

 

Her first manuscript entitled Beyond the Sun was another short story gone wild. It has recently been picked up by Bayou Brew Publishing and was released on April 1st.

Review1This book made my got to have list.  I am a HUGE fan of romantic comedies and this book was a fun read.  Kenzi has the luck that I have been running into lately.  When it seems like everyone’s life is aces and you are stuck holding the joker.  Just when she thinks it is her turn in the spotlight and to announce her engagement to the most boring man on the planet, her parade is rained on.

I love the way her ex popped back into her life.  Sometimes what you think is over, is really just an intermission.  Shane is the man she was always meant to be with and the way he wins her back is enough to make you go all girly!  This book has 10 of my all time favorite movies mentioned and a HEA to boot.

The story starts with Brody’s background, and cuts to the chase: He has matured and wants to make up for all of his mistakes, mainly: getting the love of his life back. In his case, what he didn’t know hurts like hell! I felt as if the author was giving me his side of the story first, so I wouldn’t hate him. It worked, but I admit to having a few moments of bemusement due to his behavior. One minute he’s insecure, the next he’s vain and throwing money at the problem. I’m a sucker for a complicated man, though, so this meshed well for me. His PTSD only made my compassion for him stronger.

Rain’s a lady that knows when to put her pride down, and her fists up. She’s been dealing with a lot on her plate, but handles it like a pro. I know this isn’t the ideal situation, but that’s what makes the story interesting. Her composure and beautiful personality were inspiring, but frustrating at the same time. She’s a hard worker, dedicated mother, and loyal to those she loves. My heart broke for this woman and what she had to go through.

Owen and Eli are two of my favorite characters in this novel, as they were the rocks that helped Rain while Brody was away. They provided dialogue that brought some laughter, when needed, as well. There’s a lot of “small town” issues that are thrown in here and there, which made these two diamonds in the rough stand out for me.

I love for my heroes to have a little scruff around the edges, and this author delivered just that! I have to admit, though, the heroine in this novel was my biggest hero. It took a while for me to warm back up to Brody after hearing his confessions, but eventually, I made it there. There’s a great deal of background given throughout the novel that gives you a better understanding of the love Rain and Brody had before he left. The villain is someone I loved to hate, and not far-fetched from reality. With a wonderful plot, story line, and unusual cast of characters, I liked it and look forward to see what’s next for the McBride’s!

 

 

 

 

 

 

Review1Straight up, Rain is a better woman than me because I definitely would have moved on in the interim of  this story.  Brody was a dog.  I get that “technically” he wasn’t cheating but still.  Anyway.  I did enjoy this story.  I like Jennifer Ryan and I know that she tells a great story.  Rain is a good woman for raising both the girls but I feel like she could have played a little harder to get.  This is a good contemporary romance that makes you wonder if you would have done the same things or if you would have moved passed the love you felt and found romance else where.

Turn Up the Heat is the first book in the Pine Mountain series by Kimberly Kincaid.  Bellamy and her famous boyfriend break up and her boss is a nightmare so she goes on a weekend getaway with two of her friends.  However, Bellamy’s luck goes from bad to worse and her transmission breaks on the way.  So that leaves Bellamy is the middle of nowhere with the hottest mechanic on the planet.  Bellamy is a nice woman who has no idea what she is going to do with her life but her current job is not for her. 

Shane Griffin is a hot and sexy man who has not faced his past.  He works as a mechanic and is very good at his job as well as honest.  Shane has issues in his past that he does not want to talk about as well.  Shane tries to keep his past the past and not discuss it unless he is forced to.  It’s apparent that Shane is not looking for a relationship or even a one night stand. 

The chemistry between Shane and Bellamy is scorching but I found any relationship between them a bit unrealistic because neither person wanted one or even work for one. The sex scenes were steamy.  They made a great match in the bedroom. 

The story was very well written.  The main and secondary characters were interesting and realistic.  Overall, this was a great book.  I can’t wait to read the next book in the series.

Caleb is a teacher at the local community college working his way up to becoming a professor.  He has hunted for the woman who everyone told him was dead.  Caleb does not believe it because his heart says she is still alive.  It seems he tried to have relationships but no one has ever been able to measure up to Sylvie. 

Sylvie was taken from Caleb at the age of sixteen and was still in love with him years later to the point of following him from afar.  Finally, fears later she takes on of Calab’s classes just to see him then everything comes to a head as he see her. 

The chemistry between Caleb and Sylvie is blistering.  They have a hard time staying away from each other.  It shows how much they care about each other.  The sex scenes were scorching.  The ending is what blew me away.  I did not see it coming at all. 

I liked this book a lot but what I found confusing was for the first third of the book (less once you’re past that point) or so it went back and forth between the past and the present.  That is one of my biggest pet peeves because I find very distracting.  The main and secondary characters were fascinating and genuine. I loved that this book was told from Caleb’s point of view.  Overall, I adored this book and wish I can find man who loves me just like Caleb loves Sylvie.
