BLOG TOUR STOP! MULTIPLE REVIEWS! BIG GIRL PANTIES BY STEPHANIE EVANOVICH (@TastyBookTours)

Big-Girl-Panties-Stephanie-Evanovich(1)Blurb

In BIG GIRL PANTIES, Evanovich introduces readers to Holly Brennan—a 32-year old grieving widow in need of a change. Having spent too much time mired in sadness and grief-eating, Holly heads out of town to settle her husband’s estate and try to move on. Enter Logan Montgomery—a personal trainer to the country’s most famous professional athletes who also happens to be sitting next to her on the flight home.

Holly’s mortified by the way she’s squeezed into the airplane seat, but as they chat, Logan quickly realizes she has a sharp wit and keen insight—a welcome change from the sexy but superficial women he usually dates. When he impulsively offers to train her at his private gym, Holly surprises even herself and agrees.

Holly discovers she’s a natural athlete, and as her fitness level increases, so does a new found confidence. When Logan finally introduces Holly to his best friends, baseball superstar Chase Walker and his wife Amanda (a feisty curvy woman herself), they instantly see what Logan doesn’t; Holly is knockout. As their smoldering attraction starts to spark in earnest, Holly and Logan will have to decide if their love is for real…or just about looks.

BIG GIRL PANTIES is a fun, sexy, smart, and exceptionally saucy romp—a must-have book for the summer and a debut not to be missed.

Review3

Holly Brennan is a young widow.  After the death of her husband, she became more comfortable with food and gained a lot of weight.  She is drowning in feelings of being lost and alone.  Holly has a great attitude toward life and things around her.  Holly’s battle with weight was very accurate as she came to terms with food and her eating habits.  I also loved that she made mistakes along the way.  It make the battle more realistic.

Logan Montgomery is a hot and sexy man who is a personal trainer.  In the beginning of the story, Logan comes across like a close-minded tool.  He does not even seen beyond the exterior of Holly.  I did enjoy that he offered to train her because with his help she does beginning to loss the weight.  I was on the fence with Logan as to whether I liked him or hated him right up to the end.

The chemistry between Logan and Holly is blistering.  However, Logan has trouble seeing Holly and anything other than how he first saw her on the plane.  Logan’s friends keep pushing both Logan and Holly together and I wonder even now if that did not happen if anything would have come of the chemistry?

Ms. Evanovich did a great job writing this story.  She embraced a tough subject and the attitudes that come with it and a magnificent book is the result.  I found this book to be very realistic.  The main and secondary characters are interesting.  Overall, I hope to see these characters again in the future to see how they are in a few years.

Review1I really enjoyed this book.  I am a plus size girl so even though I would never have contemplated a relationship with Logan, (I think he is a douche who is obsessed with numbers) I thought the book itself was fun.  Guys like Logan are so blinded by the things that are on the outside, they miss the incredible person that is on the inside.  Logan was into Holly in a sexual way but he seemed to almost resent the fact that lust was there.

Holly was an amazing person and I give credit where credit is due.  I am hoping that we see more from these characters in Stephanie Evanovich’s future works.

Review2

This is a novel that all women should read!

Evanovich has such an amusing, and down to earth way of depicting her characters, I fell in love with them immediately!  The mantra of “be the best you that you can be” translates beautifully throughout the entire story.  There were times that I laughed so hard, I cried!

I was in an accident a few years back that completely debilitated me and caused me to gain around a hundred pounds, in less than a year.  I know how hard it is to get back into a healthy routine, and quite frankly, back to life after you’ve mastered the downward spiral.  This author has taken a serious situation and turned it into one of the most comical and romantic stories I’ve read in a long time.  Holly is my hero, and I adore Logan!  Their story is not unusual, but it is unique.  She’s found the courage to live life to its fullest again, and he’s found beauty beyond the surface.  Filled with scenes that will make you lose composure for a moment, I highly recommend this wonderfully written novel!  Bravo Stephanie Evanovich!

Review1Just for the record, I received a copy of this in exchange for my review.

I am a fan of Gillian Felix’s work.  This book picks up and takes you on a drama filled roller coaster.  Her characters are real and flawed.  I love that in a book!  There are only so many “perfect” characters you can take before you chuck the book out the window.  These siblings are a handful that I feel you either love or hate.  I have to say that no good deed goes unpunished and I think that you guys will love the Banovic crew!

Atonement Cover Fnl LoResBlurbReese Stanford is off to college at Wake Forest with her loving boyfriend, Tate Justice…or is she? Will Tate ever be able to win her love back?
Betrayal, anger, lust, and love fuel the future of Reese causing unexpected twists and turns on her long-awaited road to happiness. Will undying love conquer after all? Can Reese remain true to herself?
Review3

Atonement is the second book in the Attainment series by J. H. Cardwell.  Reese Stanford is off to college at Wake Forest.  She is dating Tate and life is good.  Reese and Tate have several bumps as the both grow up and become adults while they are in college.  Tate becomes aggressive when anyone looks at Reese.  Reese has grown up and is more level headed than in the first book.

Tate is still the hot and sexy man from the first book.  He is also still head over heels in love with Reese.  Tate’s biggest problem is deciding what he wants to do beyond college is it the majors or what and how to fit Reese into it.  Tate also seems to forget to talk to her about what is going on with him and his plans.

John is still around and waiting for Reese to wake up and pick him.  John has it so bad he tries to meddle in Tate and Reese’s lives.  The one thing that John accomplished was pushing them together.  I wonder if John did not meddle as he did, if Tate and Reese would even be together.

I loved how the book ended.  I fully expected the ending to be much sooner than it was.  I loved that I was kept at the edge of my seat wondering how it was all going to play out.  I found this story to be well written.  The main and secondary characters were interesting and realistic.  Overall, this was a great story and I cant wait for the next book in the series!

BlurbThere are many ways to capture a person’s love, but unwilling, full attainment is never the best option.
Life hasn’t been easy for 18 year old Reese Stanford. After a traumatic incident a year ago, she has a hard time trusting any guy. She finally allows herself to fall for the heart throb, Tate Justice, only to realize he too comes with his own set of issues.
Swearing off men, she meets a beach ‘god’ who will settle for no less than all of Reese. That is at least, until she learns a truth about Tate that changes the game entirely.

Review3

Attainment is the first book in the Attainment series by J. H. Cardwell.  Reese Stanford is only 18 and yet has had a rough life.  Reese is a sweet and levelheaded young woman.  She is trying to make her way in life in college and in romance.  She learns at a young age how precious life is. Reese is a strong woman to be able to go through what she did and come out whole and not forever broken.

Tate is a young man who seems to know what he wants in life and is not afraid of his emotions when it comes to Reese. He is a hot and sexy athlete.  I loved how respected her wishes about not having sex until she is married and did not pressure her in the least.  Tate can come across as desperate at times but at his young age, it is not too unrealistic.

John is a hot and sexy man who fall in love with Reese from the first time he see her.  John is also rich and is more than willing to throw his money around to help win over Reese.  However, while John has some good qualities, he never fully eclipse Tate for Reese.

The author tackles some tough issues including rape.  I do like how the author handled it.  She showed it affected Reese but did not control it and also brought up that Reese was in therapy.  I was not fond of how the book switched from first person to third person.  I am also not fond of switching from Reese telling the story to different characters telling the story.  The main and secondary characters were interesting and realistic.  Overall, this was a good story in spite of the tough issues raised with the book.

REVIEW BY TOMME! DIE TRYING BY NICHOLAS RYAN

Blurb‘DIE TRYING: A ZOMBIE APOCALYPSE’
Trapped amidst the horror of the zombie apocalypse, three men hear the sound of a helicopter overhead and know it represents their last desperate hope to survive the terror and reach safety.
But survival comes at a cost – and the undead hordes that ravage the world are not the only lurking evil the men must face.
But for Mitch Logan, his brother, Jed, and their friend, Clinton Harrigan, there is no choice.
They must fight to survive – or Die Trying.

Review by TommeThe civilized world has ended, save for a few small pockets of survivors, it has been taken over by the zombies.  Mitch and Jed Logan and Clinton Harrigan have survived so far by keeping extremely quiet and staying hold up in their “safe house” , but they are running out of supplies and must figure something out soon.  Then they hear their salvation: a low flying helicopter trying to land.  Now they must go out into the zombie-infested horror of a world to try and get to it, and they soon find out that the zombies aren’t necessarily the worst thing out there.

I would recommend this book for any die-hard zombie fan, The author does a great job of describing, in detail, a horrific

post-apocalyptic

world.  Even with the world outside falling apart, the characters still have their own personal issues and that gives them depth.  The story has plenty of twists and lots of gore.  If you like B-movie zombie flicks, do yourself a favor and pick this book up.

Review3

Lucie Walker wakes up in the San Francisco Bay and does not have any memories of anything prior to waking up.  At the hospital they cannot find a physical cause for the memory loss and determine its emotional trauma. There she meets her fiancé Grady again.  Lucie is a strong and determined woman who is determined to uncover the past that she hid from everyone around her.  The Lucie that woke up in the San Francisco Bay is a much different than she was before.

Grady Goodall goes to San Francisco to bring his fiancé home now that she has been found.  While he was warned about the fact that she has no memory prior to waking up in the bay he is still stunned by the difference.  Grady falls for the new Lucie and wonders what he saw in the old Lucie.  He is also wary that the old Lucie will return to the point that he walks on egg shells.

This book really makes you think about how much we reveal to those around us.  Poor Grady realized as the new Lucie asked questions that he did not really know the old Lucie as much as he thought he did.  I loved that he supported her as she searched for answers.  I also loved the fact that he did not pressure her to go back to work.  In fact it did not even come up to discuss.

When I first started reading this book I was surprised at how much I enjoyed it.  It was different from what I expected to find.  I had a very hard time putting this book down as I read it.  I found the story to be very well written and interesting.  The main and secondary characters were interesting and realistic.  I do hope for a sequel to see how Lucie and Grady do as more of her memories return. Overall, this was a magnificent book.

Review2

This was an amazing novel that I simply could not put down!

I love it when an author captures my attention to the point that nothing else exists in this world, and everything around me fades.  Shortridge has taken an unusual disorder and expressed the agony with such genuineness, I felt as if I knew the characters personally.

I loved the suspense in this novel, and suspected everyone of wrong-doing at some point, by the end.  Pieces of the puzzle are slowly put into place, making your imagination work to see the full picture, but it’s worth the time invested.  The characters are well written, well developed, and unique.  I know there are similar stories out there, but the author has found a rare combination that makes this book stand out.

The romance is on a deeper level than physical contact.  My heart ached for Julie and Grady as each fought their inner demons and faced the reality of what stood before them.  The suffering, confusion, anger, and change in personalities are depicted as if they’re from actual events.  Each time the narration changed throughout the book, it was done so flawlessly, never disrupting the flow.  The ending was beautiful, but leaves room for you to come up with your own ideas.

I loved it!

REVIEW BY CEECEE! LOVE’S SPIRIT BY ELIZABETH MEYETTE

Blurb

Emily Brentwood’s ultimatum to return to England led to her husband’s capture by British troops, but she learns he has escaped and is still alive. She is overjoyed to be unexpectedly reunited with her husband, but Emily is appalled by Jonathon’s injuries at the hands of the British, and she blames herself for his imprisonment and torture.

Separated again when he is forced into hiding, Emily clings to his promise to be with her for the birth of their baby. Boldly, she confronts the British officer who attempted to rape her, and she defies the woman who wants her dead.

Still suffering from his wounds, Jonathon risks his life to reunite with Emily, but their time together is cut short by threats from the British and the scandalous demands of his former lover. Jonathon’s physical pain pales in comparison to the torment he feels when he betrays Emily. Standing in the way of their happiness is a British officer with a personal vendetta, and a woman whose vicious intentions threaten Emily’s life. Torn between anguish over his betrayal of Emily and his need to ensure her safety, Jonathon risks recapture and certain death when he returns to Brentwood Manor knowing that British soldiers scour the countryside for him.

Both Jonathon and Emily must overcome their guilt and trust that love’s spirit will triumph over the obstacles that threaten to keep them apart. Swirling around them is a war in which a new country is born from a demand for liberty and a new love is sparked in the midst of rebellion.

Review2

This brilliantly written historical-romance novel is a captivating and creative read.

I was immediately immersed in this novel as a passionate moment unfolded between Emily and Jonathon in the first chapter.  These brave characters have a wonderful backstory and are perfect for each other. They’re humanized by the mistakes they make and the little idiosyncrasies that are brilliantly placed throughout this book.

With the sweets comes the sour, of course.  While the British are circling Brentwood Manor like vultures, a predator of a different nature has slithered her way back into Emily and Jonathon’s life.  The young heroine must keep herself together for the sake of her unborn child, the man she loves, and her new country.

I am completely blown away by this author! To say that she writes intelligently, or dictates everything perfectly would be an understatement.  Given her background as an English teacher, she has an exemplary gift of conveying life as it was, in every manner, during the 18th century, without causing confusion.   The research involved is evident and impressive.  I finished this novel with a renewed sense of knowledge about the Revolutionary War, and I grew up two miles from The Kershaw-Cornwallis House in Historic Camden!  We were raised on the wars and conflicts that occurred in our sleepy little town, and Meyette writes as if she was raised during these times.

Love stories, evil plots, Rebels, Redcoats, and the fight for liberty are all wrapped up in a thrilling novel that flows elegantly.  I look forward to reading more of her work and I definitely recommend this to anyone who loves Historical Fiction/Romance.

She had written the historical romance 30 years earlier, but it languished in her closet during her career in education as an English teacher and Media Specialist. Upon retiring from teaching, she dusted off Love’s Destiny, polished it up and submitted it to Crimson Romance, an imprint of F&W Media, who published it. Unlike her first novel, the sequel, Love’s Spirit took only seven months from inception to submission, and was published as an ebook on April 22, 2013 and will soon be available in print.

This was an amazing story and told from a perspective that I had not come across.  Carmen has no voice due to a vicious incident.  It was devastating and had a profound impact on the life she has always led.  When her therapist refers her to another doctor, she wonders why she continues to waste her time.

Jacob sees something in Carmen and is convinced he can help her regain her power of speech.  When danger starts stalking Jacob, he wonders if he will have the power to save himself.  I thought the suspense that was involved was awesome and I was left wondering till the very end.

Excerpt

Sebastian’s eyes darkened with desire at Ani’s teasing words and he pushed her plate away
from her and leaned in to capture her lips between his teeth.

“Hey, I’m hungry,” Ani protested against Sebastian’s mouth with a laugh.

“I’ll feed you,” Sebastian whispered, picking up a piece of dripping chicken with his
fingers and sliding it into Ani’s mouth. Ani sucked Sebastian’s finger into her
mouth and licked the dripping juices as he fed her.

“More,” Ani whispered, twisting around and lifting herself up onto the table until she
was sitting in front of Sebastian with her legs in his lap.

Sebastian dipped his fingers into the dish of chicken and rubbed the dripping sauce
across Ani’s bottom lip as he slipped his thumb under her teeth, rubbing the
taste of curry on the roof of her mouth.

“I’ll never be able to taste curry again without thinking about you in my mouth,” Ani
moaned, throwing her head back as Sebastian continued to drip sauce onto her
lips.

“Still want to eat?” Sebastian breathed, pushing the bowl aside and laying Ani down
onto the table.

“Yes. You,” Ani moaned in reply, reaching for Sebastian and pulling him toward her.

“You want to know what I dreamed of in prison when I had my hand wrapped around my
dick?” Sebastian whispered, unbuttoning his jeans and pulling Ani up toward
him.

“Yes,” Ani breathed, reaching forward and pulling Sebastian out of his jeans.

“I closed my eyes and imagined your hands on me instead of my own,” Sebastian
whispered, wrapping his hands around Ani’s as she stroked him. I imagined you
tasting me.” Sebastian rubbed his fingers across the tip of himself and wet
them with the beads of pre-come that oozed out. “I imagined this,” Sebastian
murmured, bringing his sticky fingers up to Ani’s mouth and rubbing them
against her lips.

“I missed the taste of you,” Ani moaned, licking the salty residue on her lips and
bringing her face down to run her tongue across the tip of Sebastian’s leaking
cock.

“But you know what I dreamed of the most?” Sebastian moaned as Ani took him in her
mouth.

“What?” Ani breathed, lifting her head up to stare into Sebastian’s piercing eyes.

“Being inside you,” Sebastian confessed, pushing Ani back down onto the table and
spreading her legs open as he peeled off her jeans. “I yearned to sink myself
inside you.” He slid a finger into Ani, stretching her open for him.

“Please,” Ani begged, pulling Sebastian down on top of her.

“I remember our first time like it was yesterday,” Sebastian murmured, sliding his
finger out of Ani and thrusting inside her with a groan. “You were so tight and
wet, so sweet.” He traced the hickeys down Ani’s body with his tongue.

“You smelled like the sea,” Ani whispered back.

Review2

This is highly erotic, highly emotional, and highly addictive!

Wow!  Even the cover on this novel makes me sweat!  The story starts off with an explosive reunion between Ani and Sebastian that almost curled my toes.  Then, Ani’s husband Jordan entered the story.  I was completely torn from this point.

While I understand there’s no antidote for the “ole Irish charm”, Ani throws every ounce of responsibility and conscience out the window when Sebastian walks in the door.  There’s an intense love between these two that seems to pick up right where they left off fifteen years earlier.  I admit that while this is an enchanting affair that I sided with completely at first, the pain it caused Jordan and Raffi was too severe to remain so biased. I was also a little disappointed that she didn’t give him hell as soon as they were alone for turning his back on her; He deserved at least a slap for his audacity.

No matter how heartbroken I was for Jordan and their sweet little girl, the author played my weaknesses. Sebastian was just too much to resist!  I’m a fool for the old language and although it can be a pain sometimes, the blunt approach of an Irishman leaves no room for misinterpretation.  He’s funny, possessive, talented, hard-headed, and one hell of a lover!

There’s several supporting roles that make this novel complete.  Ani’s sister, her girlfriend, and their landlord make a terrific comedic addition, not to mention a little sizzling extra. The background, though given in pieces, is informative and heartfelt.  I could smell the ocean and feel the cool breeze of the harbor, as Ariel has depicted the setting beautifully.  I loved the preview of the newest addition to this series and can’t wait to see how it works out!  I’m also relieved to hear that the third is about poor Jordan.  I’ll definitely be checking those out!

Review3

The Sweet Spot is the first book in the Boston Harbor Romances by Ariel Ellman.   I absolutely loved this book in fact I read it twice before I started to write this review (a first for me).  This book grabs at your heart and does not let go all the way through the book.  It makes you rethink choices you have made in the past.  I read this book in one sitting.

Ani Winthrop is faced with impossible choice.  Her life is good; she loves her husband and has a great life between work and home.  That is until her past loves walks into her bakery and back into her life.  Now she is faced with a choice.  Does she pick the man she always thought she would spend her life with or the man is married to?

Sebastian is back in Boston and while he tried to stay away from Ani but he is unable to.  Therefore, nine months after his release from prison he is back and wants Ani in his life and bed.  Sebastian is a hot and sexy man who is head over heels in love with Ani.  He is also smart and made good use of his time behind bars.

The chemistry between Sebastian and Ani is blistering.   They only have eyes for each other at first.  I loved how patent Sebastian was as Ani tried to figure out things while he was battling his own regrets.  If one accident did not happen how different his life would have been.

I found this story to be well written.  I loved the main and secondary characters.  I found them not just realistic but entertaining.  I was kept on the edge of my seat to see how this situation between Sebastian and Ani would play out.  I loved the story and the ending very much.  Overall, I loved this book and I cannot wait for the next book in the series.

I got my first taste of romance novels tucked away in the back of Papyrus, a little bookstore near
Columbia University in Manhattan, when I was eleven years old. They had a
children’s section, but it was downstairs in the basement, accessed by a
separate street entrance, and they always closed it before we got there.

My father liked to take me and my brothers to bookstores late at
night, after spending at least an hour lingering over black coffee and poppy
seed cookies at The Hungarian Pastry Shop on Amsterdam Avenue and we never made
it over to Papyrus before ten p.m.

Out of boredom, trapped in the dusty aisles of Papyrus late at
night, I started browsing through all the old used books. I wasn’t too
interested in the textbook sections that catered to the Columbia students, but
I did fall in love with the paperback romance novels. The first one that I read
was an epic 500-page historical love story set during the War of 1812. I was
drawn in instantly, and I fell in love with romance novels after that. My
oldest and dearest friend Barbara’s older sister, Audrey, lent me my second
romance novel, a tattered paperback that reminded me of a steamier version of
the movie Romancing the Stone with Michael Douglas and Kathleen Turner. After
that, I could always be found in the romance section of B. Dalton Books,
devouring steamy historical romance novels by Catherine Coulter and Dorothy
Garlock.

I then proceeded to write my own romance series, which I thought
was fabulous, but since I was only twelve and had an almost non-existent love
life to base it on, it probably wasn’t actually that exciting.

Over the years, I detoured away from the standard romance novels
as I delved into classic literature as an English major in college at Drew
University, and I fell in love with the classics: Jane Austin, George Elliot,
The Bronte Sisters, Hardy, and Hawthorne. In my personal reading, I delved into
Gail Tsukiyama, Dorothy Allison, Kathryn Harrison, Julia Alvarez, Anita Shreve
and many others. I devoured memoirs by Alexandra Fuller, Adeline Yen Mah and
Helen Fremont. I went through a Patricia Cornwell phase and even considered
becoming a mortician, earning the nickname Morticia from my husband’s high
school buddy Jeremy. But through it all, the constant theme that attracted me
to everything that I read was romance, and in the end, I found myself circling
back and falling in love with the good old romance novel again.

Upon my return to my old love, the romance novel, I fell in love
with Julie Garwood and read every historical romance that she wrote at least
five times. Then I discovered Diana Gabaldon’s Outlander books and tore through
them, sulking and grumbling as I waited for each new book in the series to come
out.

During this process of abandoning the romance novel and finally
returning to it, I graduated college, married a wonderful man and spent the
next twelve years having five children, which kept me a little busy and
distracted me from the one thing that I love more than reading romance novels,
writing them.

So armed with a little more history in the love department than I
had at twelve, I decided to dive back in and write The Sweet Spot. I had no
idea initially that it was going to be the first book in my Boston Harbor
Romance series, but as I was writing it, I realized that I didn’t want the
story to end, and that so many of the characters in the book had stories that
needed to be told.

Whenever I finish reading a great romance, it is always
bittersweet because I miss the characters that I have fallen in love with. The
wonderful thing about a series is that you never have to say good-bye.

interview

What is your writing inspiration?:

Everything around me inspires my work. Sometimes something
simple will spark an idea, like the feel of a raindrop on my cheek, and
sometimes my inspiration will come from something deeper, a feeling that a
friend or loved one evokes in me.

What would you die without?:

My AMAZING support network of friends and family

What is your favorite guilty pleasure?:

Definitely reading romance books! And drinking my coffee with
heavy cream ;).

Did any of your early ideas or characters make it into your
current work?
:

Yes and no. All of the characters in The Sweet Spot were
original to the book, but the idea of Ani and Sebastian’s story came from a
fictionalized memoir that I was working on before it. Everyone that read my
memoir kept fixating on the story of my first love from my teenage years, and
the unresolved way that we left each other. The interest that everyone showed
in that aspect of my original story sparked the idea of Ani and Sebastian’s
love story in The Sweet Spot.

Do any of your friends or family inspire the characters in the
book?
:

Yes! My relationship with my little sister definitely inspired
the relationship between Ani and Sawyer in The Sweet Spot and the entire
series. My sister and I cannot be around each other without doubling over in
hysterics every five minutes. We laugh non -stop when we’re together, we both
have foul mouths and a playful sense of humor, and we know each other inside
and out. We mother each other to death, and we know that we can always count on
each other no matter what. There is nothing like a sister to get you through
all your good times and bad, and Ani and Sawyer’s relationship reflects that
throughout the entire series.

Do you have any new projects in the work for another book?:

Yes! I am currently writing Book IV in my Boston Harbor Romance
Series, which is about Bella, Bobby’s little sister, who you meet briefly in
Book II. I’m really in love with this story, partly because I feel like I have
a little more freedom and flexibility with this book than I had with Book II, Mixing
It Up, and Book III, Mississippi Spice, which will be released next month. In
books II and III, the characters had already been established from The Sweet
Spot, and while I loved telling both Sawyer and Jordan’s stories, I didn’t have
as much room to play with them as I do with Bella, because I’d already given my
readers certain expectations of Sawyer’s and Jordan’s personalities. With Bella
and book IV in general, I feel like I have a blank canvas again, the way that I
did with The Sweet Spot when I started the series, and it’s a lot of fun. I
love that I can continue to develop all of the existing characters in the
series, especially Raffi, who is slowly becoming a teenager and approaching her
own story, and yet, I’m also creating something fresh and new at the same time
with Bella’s story.

Do you let your close friends and family read your work while
you are writing it?:

Initially I did, and The Sweet Spot went under the microscope
with my friends quite a bit through all of it’s stages, but as I’ve progressed
through the series, I’ve become a little more hesitant about letting anyone
read anything until the first draft is at least complete. While I definitely
think it’s valuable to get input from “test” readers, I also think it can
sometimes be distracting when you’re still trying to figure out the exact
direction that you are heading with the story yourself.

REVIEW BY CEECEE! HER GHOST WEARS KILTS BY KATHLEEN SHAPUTIS

Blurb

Something’s not right at Baillie’s popular used bookstore in rain-soaked western Washington and frigid, heart-stopping air is her first clue. When the cat refuses to enter the shop and Baillie hears faint bagpipes in the travel book section, her nerves are rubbed raw.

Meanwhile in Scotland, the heir of a local castle falls to a suspicious death. An evil banker claims ownership of the castle, leaving the staff to ponder their fate.

How are these events connected? The answer lies in a Ghost and Mrs. Muir tale, twenty-first century style that flips the table with a ghostly twenty-seven-year-old hunk, Lord Kai, and fifty-something bachelorette Baillie. Her gay best friend Gillian Nation and his girls dash to Scotland to Baillie’s rescue when the combination of alcohol, villainous banker, DNA, and good old-fashioned jealousy throw Baillie into the fight of her life. Will she choose to reclaim her normal Northwest existence or grab onto an unorthodox love that makes life magical and breath-taking?

Review2

The moment I read the blurb for this novel, I just knew that I had to read it!

I’ll admit the reference to “The Ghost and Mrs. Muir” is one of the first things that caught my eye, as it’s one of my favorite classics, but this novel also has a little “To Wong Foo…Julie Newmar” involved.   The two mixed a lot better than I expected.

The author has flawlessly portrayed a character very much in need of an adventure!  Baillie made it too convenient to remain a homebody when she turned her house into a used book store.   She constantly makes up reasons to just sit at home in front of the tube, but thankfully she has a couple of colorful characters to pull her out of her funk.   When a letter arrives with exciting news, she’s left with the feeling that something’s awry.  Although it’s unlike her, and against her friends’ wishes, she embarks on a journey to Scotland that will change her life forever.  She’s not alone, however, and the pace of the story picks up tremendously from this point.

Baillie and Kai form a beautiful bond despite their differences, and the author uses the art of insinuation brilliantly here.  Sweet little nothings, soft touches, or cool sensations in this case, excited me extremely.  The banter between this dynamic duo was both comical and endearing.  Baillie’s time alone with the Highlander, and the staff, is my favorite part of the book.  The book’s mood changes very rapidly when her friends enter the scene, however.

Gillian and the divas are quite the characters and hard to explain, but they love Baillie very much, and go to great lengths to help her out.  This trendy trio added a touch of the new world to this story.

There’s a great deal more involved in this novel, but I’m afraid to spoil the surprises.  I’m not in love with the addition of the queens, but it worked here.  The author built a sturdy foundation from the beginning, which kept the story from falling apart when the story-line changed.  Filled with an unusual, yet wonderful cast of characters, I couldn’t help but adore this novel!  I’m considering reading it again, as it’s one of those that starts to grow on you the more you think about it.

REVIEW BY CEECEE! UPON A MIDNIGHT CLEAR BY MJ SCHILLER

BlurbDylan Fisher is an EMT and part-time Santa Claus at a mall in Denver, Colorado. He has logged plenty of time with children sitting on his lap asking for anything from the latest electronic gadget to a week’s worth of homework passes, but he never heard anyone ask for what little Delaney Kelly asked for on one snowy night in December. A dad! When Dylan’s eyes search the crowd for Delaney’s mother and land on Keira Kelly, the paramedic almost finds himself in need of a little CPR. She is stunning!

Keira Kelly is still grieving over the loss of her husband, but a reckless driver has her thinking about nothing but survival as she’s headed home from the mall. When Keira wakes in the hospital to find a hunky EMT at her bedside, she begins having a few thoughts that would put her on Santa’s Naughty List for sure! But when she finds out the EMT is only hanging around because the police believe someone is out to get her, she’s not sure what to think about his kindness. Is he helping her because he wants to, or because he feels he needs to? And what about the man who rammed her car, could he have had something to do with her husband’s death?

Review2

This exciting story literally began with a bang!

I was captivated from beginning to end with this enchanting tale of how love always seems to find its way back to you.  The characters were darling, the suspense was nail-biting, and there was just enough spice to make me blush!

Dylan and Keira are kindred spirits brought together by a precious little girl with a special wish for Christmas, and an unfortunate turn of events.  My heart ached for Keira as she fought to move on, and for Dylan as he worked so hard to convince her of his good intentions.  The more I read, the more I loved it!

There’s a dark figure that haunts this beautiful love and jeopardizes their future.  This twist completes the novel, making it a well-rounded story, worthy of praise!

I was once a single mother and I was impressed with the manner in which the author portrayed Keira’s struggle. The internal battles and indecision a single parent goes through when it’s time to live again is delivered expertly.  Dylan’s role is also penned with what seems to be an experienced hand.  The supporting cast is sparse, but excellent, and the story line is believable.  I highly recommend this novel to anyone that loves a good romance, a tender touch of reality, and a suspenseful tale all wrapped in one novel.
