Sliding Into Second

Jilted once before, now it’s her turn to level the playing field.

Hotshot sports reporter Sage Millan has been busy making a name for herself in the male dominated world of baseball. She’s just landed her dream job, and her first assignment is covering the newly crowned World Series champions, The Kingston Crushers. This is the opportunity of a lifetime. The only problem…her ex-boyfriend, and the only man she’s ever loved, is the team’s second baseman. Things ended badly between them, and she’s not sure she can put those demons to rest.

Professional baseball player Nicolas Cordova is having the time of his life. His team has just won the World Series, and with the victory comes more fame, women, and exposure than he ever could have imagined. But things are about to change for the sexy, charismatic athlete. He never expected his ex-girlfriend to walk back into his life, much less the locker room.

These days Sage is smarter, more mature, and doesn’t plan on being played a second time. Her appearance stirs old memories for Nic. She’s the one he let get away in the name of his career. He vows he can be the man she needs this time around. Will that be enough to mend her broken heart?

Excerpt…

“I’ll admit I’ve had many women in the past, and I can’t apologize for living. But as the years went by, my feelings for you were always someplace deep in my heart. I know that’s why I can’t settle down. Why I can’t find the peace I’ve been searching for. It doesn’t exist without you.”
“How can you say things like that? You don’t even know the woman I’ve become. I’m not that girl who relied on you, the one who would’ve followed you anywhere. I’m not her anymore, Nic. I can’t ever be her again.”
“Maybe I’m not asking for her.” He leaned closer to her face. “Maybe I want to know the woman you are today. I want another shot at this.”
“No,” she whispered.
“If you remember anything about me, I have a hard time with that word.” He tipped her chin, focusing on her lips. “I am going to kiss you. Right here and right now.”
Her knees buckled as a cool tremor swept through her. She wanted to say no. It was the only logical word to mutter, but her heart didn’t want her to say it. Her body wasn’t on board with turning him down either. The warmth that built in her stomach had moved lower, and now all she could think about was his lips on hers.
“It doesn’t sound like you’re asking,” she breathed out.
“I’m not.”
Before she could say anything else, his mouth was on hers, eager, but slow and soft. His stubble grazed along her chin as he tilted his head and deepened their bond. The sound throughout the crowded lobby seemed to fade into the background, and soon, all she could hear was her heart pumping loud between her ears. Why did he have to be such a freakin’ good kisser?
After the incredibly long connection, he pulled away, but not before stopping to kiss the bottom corner of her mouth like he used to.
“I’ve waited a long time to do that,” he said. “It was worth every lonely minute.”
“I… Nic…” She’d always had the gift of words. It was what she did for a living, but in that moment, all of her thoughts were jumbled and senseless.
“It’s okay.” He grinned as he stroked her cheek. “Let’s get something to eat and maybe figure this out. Whatever this is.”
“No.” She ran her hands along his strong chest, resting them on his shoulders.
“Don’t over analyze this, baby.” He glanced down at her hands on his body. “Let’s just go with it.”
“That’s what I’m trying to tell you.” She took a breath and continued before she lost her nerve. “Take me upstairs to your room. I know how we can figure this out.”
“What are you asking?” He placed his hand on the small of her back, drawing her closer to him. “You need to be real clear.”
“I want to go upstairs with you.”
“That’s not why I kissed you.”
“Isn’t it?” She smirked. “We’re adults now, Nicky. Let’s settle this like adults.”
“I’m not looking to settle anything. That usually means it’s over, and we’re nowhere near over.” He motioned for Joe. “I’ll take care of the bar tab and then we’ll get dinner.”
“No.” She draped her arms around his neck, intoxicated by the idea of being so close to him again. He may be older now, and may have lost those boyish looks, but the man he had become suited him and drove her wild with need.
“What did I tell you about that word?”
“I can guarantee I won’t be using it once we’re in your bedroom.” She ran her tongue along her top lip. “I’m going to the ladies room. When I come out, if you’re not by the elevators waiting for me, I’ll know that kiss was nothing more than the heat of the moment and we can go on with our lives.”
“Sage?”
“Shh.” She pressed her lips to his. “Now who’s over analyzing?” She reached for her purse and coat hanging on the back of the stool. “I’ll see you in a few minutes.” I hope.

REVIEW! The Space Between by Kate Canterbary

SYNOPSIS
Some lines are meant to be crossed.
Patrick That hair. That fucking hair. It was everywhere, always, and I wanted to tangle my fingers in those dark curls and pull. And that would be fine if she wasn’t my apprentice.
Andy My wants were few: good eats, tall boots, hot yoga, interesting work. One incredibly hot architect with the most expressive hazel eyes I ever encountered and entirely too much talent in and out of the bedroom wasn’t part of the original plan. Apparently he was part of the package.
Wine was my rabbi and vodka was my therapist, and I needed plenty of both to survive my apprenticeship. Especially with Patrick Walsh leaving love notes in the form of bite marks all over my body.

REVIEW
This book exudes sexiness! The author is beyond extraordinary and I will buy anything she writes!
The leading female character, Andy, is strong, intelligent, independent, and confident. Patrick is the quintessential Irishman, which in my dictionary means strong, sexy, intense, stubborn, and moody. Externally, her composure remains cool and dispassionate, which drives him borderline obsessive. Internally, they are both going insane just to be close to one another. Their chemistry is atomic!
I was addicted the moment I started! I’ve grown tired of reading about docile women lately, which makes this novel a refreshing change. Andy makes Patrick earn her trust, though it’s not a game. Although their banter is playful, and sometimes spicy, the undertones are endearing.
The Welsh family is adorable, quite lovable, and each sibling complements another. I can’t wait to see who finds love next!
There are several elements that play a part in the brilliance of this erotic novel as a whole. The characters are amazing, the writing is incisive, and the romance is alluring. Point of view is bounced between the hero and heroine decisively, enriching the quality of the read. Research, or extensive knowledge, of Sustainable Architecture is evident. This author has an astute and articulate writing style.
I’ve already purchased the first installment of this series, and I will not miss another!
ABOUT THE AUTHOR
Kate Canterbary doesn’t have it all figured out, but this is what she knows for sure: spicy-ass salsa and tequila solve most problems, living on the ocean–Pacific or Atlantic–is the closest place to perfection, and writing smart, smutty stories is a better than any amount of chocolate. She started out reporting for an indie arts and entertainment newspaper back when people still read newspapers, and she has been writing and surreptitiously interviewing people–be careful sitting down next to her on an airplane–ever since. Kate lives on the water in New England with Mr. Canterbary and the Little Baby Canterbary, and when she isn’t writing sexy architects, she’s scheduling her days around the region’s best food trucks.

RELEASE DAY AND REVIEW! TEARS OF CRIMSON BY MICHELLE HUGHES

The New Orleans Vampire Bar, Tears of Crimson,  comes back to life!  February 17, 2015

I was only fifteen the first time he found me.  I say he found me because I hadn’t been looking for him… yet there he was when I closed my eyes. When my mother was declared insane, the only person I had left in the world was Granny Louise.  Even though she was good to me, I was a target for bullies, ones that were convinced that the apple never fell far from the tree.  I was tired of my life, tired of a world that fostered such heartache and pain.

Rafe changed things.

He salvaged what was left of my will to live.  Those six years became my lifeline.  He opened my eyes to passion, shared a world with me that was so vivid that I could still hear his words in my ears, and the ghost of his touch on my skin when I woke up.

Now that my world has seemingly fallen apart, the only place I can think of going is where my dreams took place- New Orleans.  Rafe and I have walked those streets in my fantasies.  Somehow, I feel like that’s where I can find my salvation, my purpose.

What frightens me is, now that I’ve stepped in Tears of Crimson, a part of me is starting to believe that some dreams are meant to be lived.

I am one of the lucky ones who discovered Michelle in the early stages of her writing career.  I stumbled upon this book called Tears of Crimson.  I read it and was hooked.  How do you describe meeting your book soul mate?  This woman wrote the things that I wanted to read and wrote it in a way that drew me in and kept me hooked.  I never looked back.
Rafe is that man that you can picture clearly in our heads.  We all have one–that one man that could convince us that being single might not be a bad idea.  He is sexy, dominant and mysterious.  He comes in an immortal package that would make most of contemplate forever.
Cara has been drawn to the man in her dreams but who knew she would literally find him?  New Orleans is a mystical place and the people are too.  This story is sensual and passionate.  I read the original and the revamp and I can’t wait for you to discover the secret of Tears of Crimson. Michelle has managed to capture all the original steam and roll it into a sexy package that is on my permanent read again list.
P.S.  Say hello to the wait staff.  Those girls have a little something special…

SWEET SURPRISE BY CANDIS TERRY

SweetSurprise

Synopsis:

Playing naughty or nice . . .
Fiona Wilder knows all about falling in lust. Love? That’s another story. Determined not to repeat past mistakes, the single mom and cupcake shop owner is focused on walking the straight and narrow. But trouble has a way of finding her. And this time it comes in the form of a smoking hot firefighter who knows all the delicious ways to ignite her bad-girl fuse.
Can lead to heartbreak . . .
Firefighter Mike Halsey learned long ago that playing with fire just gets you burned. He’s put his demons behind him, and if there’s one line he won’t cross, it’s getting involved with his best friend’s ex. But when fate throws him in the path of the beautiful, strong, and off-limits Fiona, will he be able to fight their attraction? Or will he willingly go down in flames?
Or a sweet surprise!

Excerpt:

“Fiona swallowed. Something warm and forbidden swirled in the pit of her stomach, then wound its way into her heart and other vital parts of her body. In the old days she’d tug him closer and take what she wanted. But this was a new day. A new Fiona. A more responsible Fiona who, unfortunately, couldn’t seem to get this man off her mind. “Then maybe this won’t work out.” She eased her hand from his and instantly missed the fire in his touch. “Maybe.” Those broad shoulders beneath that fresh cotton T-shirt lifted in a nonchalant shrug. “I’m willing to give it a shot if you are.” Give what a shot, she wanted to ask. The actual work? Or the sexual tension that ignited between them like gasoline and matches? A sigh expanded her chest. “If you’re going to work for me there can’t be any flirting. Or touching.” His smile widened to a grin. “It’ll be a pleasure working under you.” Oh boy.”– Candis Terry, Sweet Surprise

What are your must haves when you are writing?  Examples:  fuzzy slippers, rabbits foot or a magic 8 ball?

I must have coffee and some kind of murder type of TV show on in the background with the volume off. It’s usually Criminal Minds, CSI Miami, or First 48 Hours. I don’t know why, but it works for me.

Do you listen to music when you write?  If so, what genre?

I don’t actually listen to music while I write. It would interfere with those murder shows. But I do hear songs in my head when I write and they usually go into the story because they usually are great for setting the scene. For instance, the opening scene of Something Sweeter is set in Seven Devils Saloon and the song playing is Miranda Lambert’s “Kerosene.” It’s perfect because when Jesse Wilder meets his match in Allison Lane it’s very combustible. I love all genres and on my Playlists I literally have everyone from Motley Crue to Tom Jones.

Your covers are amazing.  Do you bring the ideas to your publisher or do they just show you what they are going to be?

Thank you! I love my covers and I’m so grateful to the amazing art department at Avon Books for the beautiful work they do. In the beginning of the Sweet, Texas series (for the book Anything But Sweet) I was just asked to give them a general idea about the book. They came up with the lovely photo that is now the cover. And that pretty much set the look and the pace for the rest. It’s important for us to convey that happy feeling on the covers and to really relate to the story inside. Obviously getting the hero and heroine to look as much like the story couple is important too. Now, for each book, I send them a description of the characters and then I send along photos of poses I like and also I send photos of actors, actresses, or models that might have inspired my characters. With the cover of Something Sweeter I’d seen a wedding photo on Pinterest by this amazing award-winning South African photographer. I sent it to the art department and said, “This photo exactly conveys the spirit of the story in the book.” To my amazement the art director contacted the photographer and obtained the rights to use the actual wedding photo. How cool is that?

What type of stories do you like to read?

I love contemporary romance, but usually when I’m working on a book I stay away from that genre and read more paranormal or new adult books. I also love to read biographies of the golden era movie stars like Judy Garland and Clark Gable.

Would you be interested in adapting any of your stories to the big/little screen?  If so, which one?

I would love that! And without question I’d love for Home Sweet Home, my story in the For Love and Honor anthology to be made into a movie. It’s the introduction to the Sweet, Texas series and honestly, it’s one of the most emotional stories I’ve ever written. It will probably always be near and dear to my heart, and I think it would transfer well to the big (or little) screen.

Can you tell my readers how you got your first story published?

It took me 22 years to finally connect with the right editor and the right publisher. For years I had my heart set on writing for Harlequin. After a lot of interest (several times) and editorial revisions (several times—without a contract), I had to face the fact that I didn’t write what they were looking for and I may never write what they were looking for. I finally decided I’d write one more book but that I’d do it my way. But really, I was ready to quit trying. Only about four chapters into this new story I attended a local writer’s conference with a published author friend. There I sat at the table with an Avon editor (my dream publisher) who asked about me and my writing. I wasn’t going to pitch my book but she asked me to, so I agreed. I didn’t prepare, I literally just told her about the story from my heart. She asked for whatever I had. I sent it. Then she requested the rest when I was done. I finished it in four months and sent it. Then I didn’t hear back from her for nine months. The offer came in to sign on with Avon Impulse, a brand new ebook first, POD line. It wasn’t my dream but my agent said it was a good idea, so I signed a three-book contract. After my first three books (the Sugar Shack series—all published within six months of each other), I sent in a new proposal (the Sweet, Texas series) and was moved up to Avon Books mass market publication. It was a long road but man, am I ever glad I stuck with it.

Will you share something from your newest book?

How about a little teaser from Sweet Surprise? This was a fun scene between the heroine, Fiona, and her BFF Sabrina after Fiona is in a car accident.

Sabrina was a full-blown Mexican fireball. And Fiona considered herself lucky to have such a friend. Especially one who’d stuck with her through the thick of her insanity.

“The hospital should put you in charge of the morale-boosting committee,” Fiona said.

“Well, when you get in these moods, it’s no joke. Surely, you can see how well you’ve done.” She arched a brow at Fiona’s silence. “Again with the no? Then let me spell it out for you.”

And she did—popping up a hot pink fingernail with each point she made.

“You’re an amazing mom. You’re independent. Self-sufficient. You’ve saved enough to start your own business. You’re a rock star BFF. And you’ve opened your heart to the woman your ex-husband is about to marry. What more can you ask of yourself to make up for those bad-judgment years?”

“I don’t know.” A twinge of undigested guilt reared its ugly head. “I’m still trying to figure that out.”

“Well, stop figuring and live. Enjoy yourself.” Sabrina’s wide mouth broke into a grin. “Grab hold of a man like that hunk who just left here and have a little fun.”

And there lay the problem.

Fiona had had enough fun to last her—plus ten other people—a lifetime.

Somehow, by the grace of God, she’d managed to survive. Now it was time to get serious. And serious did not include hooking up with another fireman.

No matter how sizzling he might be.

Any advise to aspiring authors?

Never give up. Never! If being published is your dream, make it happen. Stay true to your own voice and keep your eyes open for opportunities.

Thank you!

It is no secret that I absolutely adore Candis Terry.  She is a talented writer and a wonderful person.  I love these books and when I am in the mood for a sweet romance this is one of the writers I head to.

Fiona has always depended on others but now it is time to stand on her own two feet.  What better way to do that then to start a company?  If you are going to do it, then cupcakes (yum, nom, nom) are the way to do it.

I love the Wilder family.  They truly show you what it means to be a family and I think it is amazing that they keep Fiona in the family.  I really like that Mike and Fiona have this amazing chemistry and they know how to have fun with each other.  In a lot of books we see the “insta-love” and it is always nice to see a slow, sensual building of lust that explodes into a love of a lifetime.

Please take a chance and discover this amazing group of characters and the sweetness that is Candis Terry.

Forced to work together, Brigid and Nathaniel embark on the journey of a lifetime. Traveling across the vast, unexplored countryside, they face not only the elements but also a ruthless man driven by shocking greed. Their challenges draw them together, and their experiences could not only change their outlook on life forever but turn their hearts to one another as well. Sometimes, though, what the heart needs and what the heart wants are two different things. Each has a choice to make, which may result in a loss neither wants, that of a Treasured Land.

Dream Cast

Excerpts from Treasured Land

Coming over the top to stand near the trees, Brigid wanted to scream. She dropped to the ground as quickly as she could to lie on her stomach, afraid she might have been spotted already. Brigid could see the outline of a man with his arms held above his head. He hung from a rope tied up to a tree branch. Two white trees like the ones she laid between, these two were also standing on their own with nothing else around them. It was Nathaniel hanging there. It had to be, and he wasn’t alone. Someone sat at the base of the other tree, keeping guard. She didn’t know if they were alone or if anyone else was around. She would have to wait it out for a while to see. She wasn’t equipped with anything she could use to help Nathaniel, so she needed to think on what to do. Brigid was both so scared and overjoyed at actually finding Nathaniel that she couldn’t do more than simply lay there anyway, her mind racing in too many directions.

Wow. I am stunned by this incredible book. The Escape is a new story from these ladies and it wrangled me in and kept me hooked.

Claire and Carter have been best friends for a lot of years. They have share almost everything. Claire hasn’t told him that she has been seeing someone–an older someone. When he bails on a date, Claire uses the skills that Adam, Carter’s older cop brother, taught them when they were younger.

Sometimes what we see takes us off of one path and dropkicks us down another one.

Claire has no choice but to run. I love the way this story is played out. Carter and Claire have a relationship that will withstand the obstacles that are being thrown at them. I’m excited to see where the ladies go with this series.

She knew their time was very short, and she knew this was the end. She had to have him close to her just one more time. To feel the fire of his passion envelop them, wrap itself around her, become one with her. To feel the heat of him inside her, the warm explosion of his desire filling her.
He felt it too. Pressing her back, he lifted her up on the edge of the table in the cabin, lifting her skirts as she parted her legs for him. Their ship rocked with the explosion of their cannons firing on their pursuers as he pressed himself into her. Their eyes locked together, drawing their souls into each other as she drew his hard desire into her. The fire of passion burst within her, their eyes blazing into each other as they were rocked by a climax they knew would be their last in this lifetime.
Their eyes remain locked as their lips were drawn together.
“My God, you know how to love me, Leif! Never again in this lifetime will we get to feel our love so closely and so wonderfully.”
“Not in this lifetime, dear woman; this is the end of this chapter, isn’t it?”
“But just this chapter, darling man. In our next lifetime, let’s not be pirates. Let’s be respectable people. Let’s settle down and raise a proper family. Maybe a house and a garden.”
He looked deeply into her soul, his eyes soft now with tempered passion. His lips lingered close to hers as he spoke softly. “And could you live a domesticated life, dear woman? Your heart and soul are wild and free, and you know as much as I do how much you adore running full sail before the wind, fighting the damnable overlords who oppress anyone they can, just to feed their greedy need for bloody profits. It’s what you live for.”

“I don’t know, Leif. All I know is that this love we have is something bigger than we understand, and we need to be sure and find each other again next time, and try and get this right. I want more than a few years with you next time. I want a lifetime with you.”

POST! DANCE WITH MY HEART BY MEDA WHITE

dance with my heart
Synopsis

Traumatized by her past, former police officer Jane Dillon gets a new start in Los Angeles as a bodyguard. If she weren’t so good at saving people, she might seek a new career. At least when she moonlights as a dance teacher, no one shoots at her. One impossible-to-please macho boss, one hunk of manly hot action hero, and one oversized Southern family set her on a course she never saw coming. Former Navy SEAL, Danny Baker, has a lot to deal with between his dad’s health, his sister’s public breakup, and figuring out how to get rid of a female employee without getting a sexual discrimination suit filed against him. He’s always believed it to be his duty to protect women and children, but seeing the beautiful and lethal Jane in action turns his worldview upside down. He’d almost rather go back to the jungle, except the dance floors of L.A. and the woods of Georgia are providing plenty of excitement. If they can overcome their differences, Danny’s family, and Jane’s past, they might find that they make the perfect team.

Excerpt:

“What about you?” Danny asked. “Who taught you to dance?” “My grandfather, sort of,” Jane said. “He put me in karate and dancing when I started kindergarten. He didn’t know what to do with a little girl. I guess he tried to find balance for me.” “Thanks to him, you can kick my ass and dance circles around me,” he said over his shoulder as he did a merengue step in place, while she literally danced around him. “I’ll have to thank him if I ever meet him.” Before she returned to face him, she flared her fingers as she ran her hand across his back, feeling the taught muscles there. She tore her gaze from the fluid movement of his hips to see his eyes twinkling with laughter. What had he been saying? Oh yeah, Grandfather. Jane didn’t have the heart to tell him her grandfather had passed. Because it reminded her of how alone she was in the world, she didn’t like to think about it.

I was so excited to be able to catch up with Dez and Vegas.  It has been a few months and Dez is feeling the loss of Vegas.  It is how it is sometimes.  It’s not like she hasn’t been kicking ass and taking names.  A girl has to do what a girl has to do.  When she gets a call from a blast from the past, she is intrigued and sets off on a new adventure.

Dez is a wild cat and J.M. Gregoire has managed to capture her essence and draw you into her world.  Vegas. *sigh*  The naughty things that I want to do with this man. These two characters are a living breathing entity and they never fail to keep me entertained.

I am not going to tell you where this story is going to go.  I believe that Dez and Vegas have a way of telling their own story.  If you like action, suspense, romance and badasses, then this is a book you need to check out.

Let me know what you think. 🙂

Speak of the Devil and My Little Slice of Heaven in the Middle of Nowhere

By J.M. Gregoire

Most of Speak of the Devil takes place in a little desert town called Meadview, Arizona.  It may seem like an odd location for my story given the fact that I was born and still reside in New Hampshire, on the opposite side of the country, but, there’s a very good reason for my choice of setting.

In August 2013, I took a mini-vacation with a good friend of mine.  I had flown out to his place in Las Vegas a few days early, and then we spent three days at a little house I rented in the middle of nowhere.

Meadview is about a two hour drive outside of Las Vegas.  The reason we chose the house as our destination was because we were planning a trip to a side of the Grand Canyon we had never seen before.  At that point, I had been to the Southern Rim three times, and although it is breathtakingly beautiful, I wanted to see a different part of the canyon.  As the Western Rim is parked in the middle of the northern Arizona desert, hotels are not something you often see out that way.  Rather than get a hotel room (the nearest one being a one and a half hour drive from the canyon rim), I looked into vacation rental homes.

In the book, the house Dez arrives at to visit her old friend is the house I stayed at.  With the exception of the Joshua Trees I mention being at the edge of their driveway, that house is exactly the house I stayed at.  However, there were Joshua Trees all over the desert leading out to the house as you have to pass through a Joshua Tree forest on the only road into the town of Meadview.

Spending three days in that tiny, lazy town changed my life, and it changed the course of the Demon Legacy series.  I have always been a city girl at heart.  Since I was very young, I have daydreamed of living in a metropolitan area such as Boston or New York City.  The first time I went to Las Vegas, I was instantly smitten with the city, and as a result, I have been back four more times in the last two and a half years.  When we arrived in Meadview that Friday afternoon, I knew I would never view the world in the same way again.

As we stepped up onto the large wrap-around porch, we were both awestruck at the sight before us.  Behind the house, and I mean rightbehind the house, is the Grand Wash Cliffs.

In the book, I mention the rust-red color the cliffs turn at sunset, and this was no exaggeration.  Every night, as the sun makes its descent, the cliffs appear as if someone has set them ablaze.  It’s an absolutely incredible sight.

Equally, when the sun greets the world in the morning, it peeks up over the edge of the cliffs, giving the illusion of some mystical force working its magic just out of sight.  The first time I saw this was at six o’clock in the morning while sipping my coffee in the perfect, humidity-free, seventy-five degree air.

The silence that far out in the desert is deafening.  It feels like being stuck in a vacuum.  The slightest noise made can be heard, even from a mile away.  Even in the middle of the day, the only sounds in this remote town are that of the local wildlife, the most prominent of which was the Gambel’s quail.  Their call sounds like a grown man giggling.  The first time we heard it, Ron and I both were glancing around trying to spot a person laughing.  This, too, made it into Speak of the Devil.

When night fell for the first time, I was dumbfounded.  Now, to understand, you must know that I live sort of in the country.  On a clear night, the view of the stars from my yard is really beautiful.  In Meadview, where the nearest city lights are a two hour drive away, the view is just spectacular.  The sky is a sparkling blanket from one horizon to the other with nothing in between to block your view of the cosmos.

When Ron and I initially made our journey to Meadview, I had told him I was taking the opportunity to empty my mind and get the story line of Speak of the Devil straight.  I knew the direction I wanted the book to go, but I was suffering from a severe case of writer’s block.  On our last full day there, we took the forty-minute drive to the Western Rim of the canyon.  On our way back, out of nowhere, Ron threw out an idea for a turn in the plot.  That one little idea shifted the direction of the story and solved every plot point I was stuck on.  It brought the entire book together and Speak of the Devil was finally on its way to being done.  Without him and that moment of sheer brilliance, Speak of the Devil would have been a much different book.  Hell, I would probably still be stuck right where I was in the story!  I owe him more than he could possibly know, and even dedicated the book to him.

During the course of those three days I spent out in the middle of nowhere, I felt more at peace than I ever had in my entire life.  The desert just does something to me and I feel genuinely good the entire time I am there.  No headaches.  No stress.  No worries.  For the first time in my life, I was home.  Every time I tell someone about my trip to Meadview, I struggle with the ability to clearly explain how this place made me feel.  I hope I was able to convey even a fraction of it in Speak of the Devil.  I hope my story transports the readers to that place, and I hope they fall in love with my little slice of heaven in the middle of nowhere.

REVIEW BY BRANDY! IN HIS KEEPING BY MAYA BANKS

#1 bestselling author Maya Banks continues her suspenseful and steamy Slow Burn series with this second book—a twisting tale featuring a strong yet vulnerable heroine in danger and the sexy alpha hero who must save her.

Abandoned as a baby to a young wealthy couple and raised in a world of privilege, Arial has no hint of her past or who she belonged to. Her only link lies in the one thing that sets her apart from everyone else—telekinetic powers. Protected by her adoptive parents and hidden from the public to keep her gift secret, Ari is raised in the lap of luxury, and isolation. That is, until someone begins threatening her life.

Beau Devereaux is no stranger to the strange. As the head of Deveraux Security, he’s more than familiar with the realities of physic powers. So when a family friend approaches him about protecting his daughter, he’s more than ready to jump on board. What Beau isn’t prepared for is the extent of his attraction to his beautiful and powerful client. What began as a simple assignment, just another job, quickly turns personal as Beau discovers he’ll do anything at all to protect Ari. Even if it costs him his life.

I was given a copy of this book in exchange for a review.
I have to say that I wasn’t sure if this was going to be something that I enjoyed or not.  While I love romance, I am not huge into suspense novels.  It is one of those things that I have to be in the mood for.  That being said, I really did like this book.
Ari is a girl with a secret.  It has been one that she has had all of her life.  When it comes out into the open, she has no choice but to run to the man that her father told her to, Beau.
I like Beau.  I think he was a  good guy who has the luck to be attracted to a woman that is gifted.

The story was well-written and there was good character development.  This is the second in the series but I think you could read it as a stand alone.

Now, that being said I do think there were times when the dialogue was a little dry and repetitive but that happens.  I am also a little tired of the instant love scenarios.  I completely understand being attracted to someone but it seems like everyone is instantly jumping into bed, saying I love you or just things that seem a little outside of reality.  I know its a romance book but still…

I am a fan of Maya Banks and I would recommend you check out the series and let me know what you think.
